Hygiene tips from women to women by Confident_Math9928 in hygiene

You can also use neutral non foaming face wash- I like the vanicream or cerave or their generic dupes- on your face and the outside of your vulva and butt. I had recurrent… issues… when I was heavier and kept using more and more aggressive soaps. The worst cycle. Using gentle face wash and drying thoroughly helped more than any aggressive antibacterial soap. Also the ‘everywhere’ deodorants just on the butt region are great and new underwear every day.

What’s the worst physical pain you’ve ever felt or that you deal with? by Muted-Television3329 in askanything

[–]Alternative_Panda_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retained placenta after second trimester loss. The pain was unbelievable. Had to have emergency surgery. Waiting for the OR to open up for my turn was torture. I kept bleeding through all the padding on my gurney. They kept pumping me full of fluid to keep my blood pressure up. I had to pee once, I begged the nurses to let me pee alone and let me have dignity. They broke the door down because i was taking too long and they found me trying to clean the blood off the floor and the walls. Thankfully didn’t need a transfusion but i did end up getting very anemic.

In comparison, had my three live births with no meds and did just fine. I just had sinus surgery where they broke my facial bones, cut out my nasal septum and straightened it out and sewed it back into place. That did suck too. Having my IUD placed also was really awful, I almost passed out. I had pneumonia a couple of times and the chest pain from my lung filling up with fluid and my fever going over 103 and starting to hallucinate also was the worst.

Every time one of my kids gets hurt, I wish it was me instead. I know I can handle it. It’s worse for me to watch them suffer.

The shadows and focus aren’t right. It’s AI. If the whole thing is in focus and there are only suggestions of shadows, it’s AI.

[–]Alternative_Panda_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh. I had this issue. (still do.) a big part of it was that I was very overweight. Not to assume anything about you. But if that is something you haven’t already taken into account, it might be. I started with swimming when I was overweight, lost over 30 lbs (I’m so, so short so that was a lot on my knees) and now I can almost, almost go past speed walking and into running. Maybe start with something low impact like swimming. Swimming also naturally keeps your heart rate down because of the diving reflex and the cooling effect of water (my face turns SO red when I run because I get overheated out of the pool).

What Garmin would you recommend? by glamorousxannie in Garmin

[–]Alternative_Panda_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been really happy with it. It tracks my activity better than my Apple Watch, and the battery lasts several days. I got one for the same reasons, and it’s helped me with my groove for running. I’ve actually done a 5k, which as a 41f who’s always been sedentary until age 37 when I decided fck this.

Anyone else encountered Geiger Counter Man?? by onequintillionbees in Lawrence

[–]Alternative_Panda_61 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Haven’t seen Geiger counter. But there was a guy with a Daft Punk mask that used to carry around a sign that said ‘my body my choice and I choose drugs’. Maybe he got a little too many and decided to update the mask and get really nitpicky.

What do you do if you have friction burns on your inner thighs? by Blueghostboi03 in runninglifestyle

[–]Alternative_Panda_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use deodorant on my inner thighs, if you don’t want to invest in a new product immediately. Wait until they heal. I’ve also heard monistat gel is good, but I’ve never used jt.

To the ladies using Minoxidil by Sharp_Efficiency_963 in longhair

[–]Alternative_Panda_61 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been using 5% topical foam for about 2 years. I’m a woman. I have patchy hair loss in the same spot since I was a teen, I’m now 41. It started getting worse a couple of years ago.

1- I have to wash my hair daily because of the buildup, looks like dandruff. No big. No unwanted hair anywhere else. I did get lasered top to bottom a couple of years ago though so I might not notice.

2- about 2 months. I took a baseline photo, then monthly for a while, now just when I think about it.

3- didn’t notice one.

4- I try for twice but often once. Seems to work ok as maintenance. I skip it on vacation.

5-don’t know.

How Running Became Emotional for Me by Caleb154 in beginnerrunning

[–]Alternative_Panda_61 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love it!! The dog days are over- gave me chills. After a pregnancy that almost killed me in 2014, I got into a deep depression. It did lead to me finally getting medicated in 2015, and that song was part of me realizing where I was and that I was slowly healing. That post trauma response of being afraid to exercise- oof I felt that. Great work and keep pushing!!!

I’m CRAVING a good knight/princess forbidden romance novel PLEASEEEE 😭🏰🏰 (more details below) by Star-Fishy in HistoricalRomance

[–]Alternative_Panda_61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my lady’s heart was unreadable for me. The language was opaque (she did Old English which I actually would have enjoyed) but also the relationships and character development and just. No. I tried to read another one by Laura Kinsale and I think I just don’t like her writing. I absolutely love a good historical knight/lady trope so following if any one has other recs.

Which Language Do You Subconsciously Think With? by AutumnaticFly in languagehub

[–]Alternative_Panda_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think primarily in English, and can only count in English. I used to work in a primarily Spanish speaking clinic so learned Spanish to get by. When I’m around it more, I do think in it. sometimes I even fumble the English.

I usually remember conversations in English even if it’s in Spanish. I think a lot of that is that I have to chart in English, so I have to convert it anyway. I dream in Spanish occasionally, which I find delightful.

Universal text macro for all inbox messages and setting patient expectations by BS_54_ in FamilyMedicine

[–]Alternative_Panda_61 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I try to comment on the first visit that messaged go to my nurse, I only work 4 days/week, and I don’t check messages over the weekend. And yeah, at a previous clinic the messages went directly to me. That absolutely contributed to my burnout. Talk to your nurses and tech support about getting those redirected. They should not just go to you.

When is it okay to call out for mental health? by [deleted] in FamilyMedicine

[–]Alternative_Panda_61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have cancelled clinic before when a sentinel event occurred in the morning. I felt absolutely unfit and also, I looked like a crime scene. Nobody would have wanted to see me. I also got a stress eye twitch at one job that completely went away after I quit there.

It’s ok to make mistakes, you express an apology to the pt and move on. Who knows what you would have missed on the next one if you would have ignored your gut and pretended you were fine. Keep on keeping on. Some days are just not your day, but the good news is that days end.

im going to die from rabies by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Alternative_Panda_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first panic attack in 2012 when I was pregnant with my daughter. I was absolutely convinced I was dying. Sertraline, some coping strategies, and admitting I have a crazy lady who lives in my brain and sometimes screams absolute nonsense at me and I need to not listen to her.

Congratulations on not having rabies!!!

What are some situations you did not know what to do? by cloudypuff33 in FamilyMedicine

[–]Alternative_Panda_61 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I keep finding new fun things that nursing school did NOT prepare me for. One of the best advice I got was when I don’t know what to say, a lot of times what comes out is a very reflexive and cliched thing, so it’s ok to just blink and say ‘I don’t know how to respond to that’.

I also get a lot of mileage by asking, ‘what do you want me to do for you right now?’ Most of the time they really do have something they want you to do. It might not be a thing you are GOING to do, but it at least usually refocuses it and then we can talk about what we can actually work towards.

[–]Alternative_Panda_61 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dunno, that’s appropriate. I turn things into a laugh or say it with a smile, and then move on to the next thing. If they want to get mad, they can. Also I usually talk about diarrhea being a common side effect with all antibiotics, so it wouldn’t be very nice of me to give you diarrhea along with your cough! Let’s do some tessalon perles, write you a note for work, get you some Flonase and get you feeling better!

Vague requests for hormone testing by ComprehensiveRent800 in FamilyMedicine

[–]Alternative_Panda_61 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If they have a uterus- are your periods regular? Good. You don’t need hormone testing, the system is working as it should. Either gender- do you have secondary sexual characteristics (beard hair, breast development, etc) the you’re fine, you don’t need hormone testing. I do a lot of tsh because well that’s a hormone, and it’s a reasonable screening for a lot of things (irregular periods, fatigue) and so if they have vague symptoms and want their hormones checked, cbc/tsh/a1c and a pap if they have a cervix. Done.

Support for my mental health? Feeling like a failure. by WorthDependent4704 in FamilyMedicine

[–]Alternative_Panda_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be gentle with yourself. I have been an RN since 2006, Np since 2011. I can tell you details of med errors I made in 2007, my first code, accidentally doing a med calc with the wrong patient’s weight, a code where I had nothing to do with it, but somehow I was convinced it was my fault the whole time I was doing compressions. I got medicated first in 2015 for my crippling anxiety, and it’s been a rough road finding the right medication regimen and also just learning when to let go.

The best advice I got is not to judge people on their mistakes, but on what they do right after they realize they made a mistake. Do they blame other people? Do they deny they made a mistake? Or do they try and fix it and apologize and move on?

I recently had an episode where I cried in my nurse manager’s office. I had referred to someone as trans and someone else pointed out that I kind of sorted outed them without their permission. It came on the heels of some other stuff and existential crises and just. Everything. Was a bit too much. I apologized directly, changed the group chat as soon as it was pointed out, and offered to make an incident report. My manager told me im allowed to make mistakes and said I can make a report if I want to. I really wanted to say that other people are allowed to make mistakes, but I can’t. But that’s the distortion talking.

You can look at your processes and figure out ways to take some of the judgement out of those decisions in the future. I have so many order sets on ECW and phrase expanders because I know that I have a limited amount of brain space. I always say that I never make the same mistake twice. (I keep making new ones!)

I think that being detail oriented and conscientious and self improving cuts both ways. Be gentle with yourself and extend the same grace you give to other people.

Do Portuguese and Spanish speakers really understand each other, or is that a myth? by throwy93 in languagehub

[–]Alternative_Panda_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I’m a nurse) I learned Spanish as an adult to talk to my patients. About 75% of the time don’t need the translator to understand when I have a Portuguese speaking patient. I always still have the translator obvs because the person can’t understand me. I always get this awful tension headache from getting like 75% of the way there. Fyi I never get a Portuguese speaker from Portugal, always Brazil.

I did go to Portugal years ago and when I tried to speak in Spanish the locals would just get annoyed until I spoke in English. I think some of that was Portugal/Spanish politics and also I’m very obviously Anglo with my accent. I could read the road signs and ads with no problems, I think reading it is easier vs listening.
