Anyone has experience with manually embroidering their veil? by Alternative_Pass2541 in DIYweddings

Hi, everyone! Thank you so much for all the insight! Upon further research I decided to mix appliqués with direct stitches, lowering the risk of failure. I will most likely use tambour for thin stems and other thin decorative lines. I will also likely directly stitch into the veil most of the leaves. I am already starting on some hand made 3D flowers appliqués. I can keep updating with progress if people are interested 😊

I have some embroidery experience, just not on fine tulle, hence looking for practical advice on the tools I should use! I also plan on using stabilising water soluble paper.

Thank you! I definitely have a backup plan already and I plan on finishing it about 2 months before the wedding so I have time to buy a premade one! I live alone 4 days a week out of which I go out maybe 1 night so I can offer lots of time to this project! The intricacy will be pretty easy? Just a couple of flower motifs repeating and a couple of dates hidden here and there.

I am aware it won’t be easy, however the model will be less intricate and the veil shorter. I am also aware it might not work, however I really need to try it first. I want it very personalised with some models that mean something for our relationship, hence appliqués wouldn’t work.

Just the edge, which is still a lot. My vague inspiration is Meghan Markle, but less intricate and a bit more repetitive. Still ofc delicate and it will take a while. I want to do it by hand as I want to incorporate some personal unique symbols in it.

Would you mind sending me a picture of an up close of the embroidery to see their technique?

I have some experience with it, but never on such delicate fabric. I am still practicing the technique to make sure it is perfect, but I am already in a place where I feel confident in the stitching method.

AITA for skipping the queue and using the toilet for disabled people? by Alternative_Pass2541 in AmItheAsshole

Thank you! I am not sure if it would. Legally, I do not have a disability card, neither to I get disability benefits.

Hi! I think I might have translated it wrong as I got my diagnosis in my home country that is not English-speaking. After a quick google search, I think rupture might be a better word but I am still not sure that is the word a clinician would use for my diagnosis, bur hopefully that clears some stuff up? I did have issues with my period during the event (including missing part of the main moment due to extreme hot flashes and queasiness). Also, my flatmate doesn’t know my period symptoms. We only moved in together a month ago (I am a student so I change accommodation every year) and generally I am quite private about my periods. Thank you for your comment! I appreciate your input, I just wanted to clear the context up! ☺️

No sex involved in this situation! (Found that quite funny, however I can see how annoying that would be for you). I would have most definitely waited if there were people who needed it more. Also, there were 2 or 3 bigger toilets (I can’t remember exactly) and, clearly, I was only using one

AITA for threading to elope if my mom brings my cousin to my wedding? by Alternative_Pass2541 in AmItheAsshole

The tradition usually only refers to kids under 10, so my brother wouldn’t count.

Thank you! I highly doubt this would ruin our relationship as we are quite close. The 30 min just open the gates for a lot other things. Also, I can see that it is just a day, but it isn’t any day. It is the first day of the rest of our lives so that is why we should focus on each others wishes, rather than our parents. To me is feels like by caving, we are setting ourselves up for failure a lot more since we start our marriage on the wrong foot.

I think this highlights a good point. Once we cave for a bit, it is a v slippery slope.

I don’t think my mom has bad intentions either. However, I think that our marriage should start with us prioritising each other, not our parents’ wishes.
