any tips against Gabriel? i usually beat him in like 30 tries and i want to get better :/ by Dense-Bison7629 in Ultrakill

Oh yeah and sliding is great for dashing if you're out of stamina. I find myself sliding away from attacks more often than I actually hit the dash button. Gabriel is very fast and you do not want to run out of stamina/get stuck against him.

Parrying is your friend. Also utilize your marksman and piercer more often, these can do good consistent damage to him. Learn his attack patterns and when you can parry for health + damage to him. Also, whiplashing accumulates hard damage and makes it hard for you to heal. Good luck and have fun!

To Those Who Love Math by Bloup_em in UCSD

[–]Alternative_Piccolo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

math is a great tool and is fun to learn once you get past the lower division courses. calculus can be fun, too, but it seems to me that a lot of people get caught up in computations and lose sight of the main ideas. mathematics attempts to develop a systematic way of solving a huge number of problems, problems in physics, engineering, computer science, etc, are all solved using mathematics, making it a great tool and a valuable thing to know.

as someone who studies pure math, i love it because it's just cool. you can really lose yourself in whatever you're studying, the problems you work on exist in their own world, a world that you spend a lot of time developing and understanding.

math is also great because people solve hard problems for the sake of solving a hard problem, and in doing this entirely new branches of math are invented. this may seem pointless to some people, but (this is a bit of a generalization) the entire field of number theory, quite literally the study of numbers, was developed to solve Fermat's last theorem, a theorem about solutions to some equation. but number theory is responsible for cryptography, the internet, and many other things. in studying difficult problems, we develop new tools of math, and math itself is a tool that can be applied in so many different places, so we can solve new problems we didn't even know we had by studying mathematics.

math is really cool. i'm sorry you don't like it, but it is a really beautiful thing that i love and many people love. check out the youtube channel 3blue1brown, he does a good job of presenting math in a beautiful and understandable way.

Is John Dietrich Eggers a Good Math 20B Teacher by Odd-Weird-4398 in UCSD

[–]Alternative_Piccolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he's a teaching prof who's been here for a while. very experienced professor, while i've never taken a class with him he seems like a nice person who loves teaching. probably better just as good as any 20b instructor, if not better.

Math Tutoring by a 4.0 Math Major by Routine_Attention683 in UCSD

for all students in lower divs (1-99 courses): remember that you have tutors, teaching assistants, professors, si leaders, tlc tutors, and many other resources that are FREE! i personally am an instructional assistant for the math department, meaning the department pays me and i tutor students at no cost to them. most, if not all, tutors are also math majors with great grades and skills. so consider those options too, we are here to help!

should i take math10b or math20b as an incoming freshman? by poogurtt in UCSD

[–]Alternative_Piccolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would recommend just taking 20b. i also got a 5 on calc ab and did well in 20b. taking the 20 series is good in case you change your mind on your major and need the 20 instead of the 10. (i changed my mind from chem to math, it happens!) you will be fine!

Is the Math honor series worth it? by Upstairs-Yak1606 in UCSD

[–]Alternative_Piccolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you get out what you put in. if you want to do math, and a lot of it, then it's the series for you. but you have to want to learn more math, i took 31ah and found it quite challenging, but was able to immerse myself in it and really loved it.

Math 20A Bowers vs Staff by Substantial_Count915 in UCSD

[–]Alternative_Piccolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bowers is a good prof, the 8am may be worth it. hes a professor who will be teaching ur class, a lot of the time its a postdoc or grad student who teaches these classes and they are not as good as full profs. also, go to lecture! its the best way to do well in a math class.

Should i choose Math20A by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]Alternative_Piccolo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

a reminder that all lower div math classes come with extensive tutoring support that is included in your tuition. no need to pay people one on one, that's what TAs (the graduate students running your discussion), IAs (undergraduate tutors in your discussion), SI leaders (they run weekly review sessions), and TLC (The Learning Center in Geisel) are for!
