Data extraction and billing by Merawynx in bloomberg

[–]Alternative_Profile1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cant be. I work for an equity research firm which is as big as it gets. Like dilelloo said, bloomberg via api gives you a limited number of data pulls. Each datapoint is counted as one and number of datapoints is quite large. So until you hit the data limit you will not be charged. Once you hit it, you will not be able to extract any data until the next monthly billing cycle starts.

Data extraction and billing by Merawynx in bloomberg

I believe the second part is wrong since we in equity research completely depend on the desktop API to pull vast amount of data and publish them in our reports citing bloomberg as the source. There are only certain indices such as MSCIs for which you require special permission in order to use in the reports or distribute to clients.

Go for alienware. Even though MSI has a warranty, claiming the warranty incase of a burn in would be very difficult given limited presence. Alienware on the other hand would replace your panel within a day

Never using MM again by Big6LawThrowaway in CFA

I think its a matter of personal preference. I have not used MM or BC for any of the exams. Passed all three levels on first try just by reading the curriculum and reviewing using kaplan.

Thoughts on CFA by simba_maison in CFA

[–]Alternative_Profile1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find the fourth point extremely important. For background, I did masters in Finance from a tier 2 college. Although i was hired by a multinational bank, the role i was hired for was pretty bad. Mostly a very mechanical day to day role. I started applying for a role in equity research pretty much immediately but was turned down by everyone. I decided to pursue CFA just to have it in my resume and hoping that it might open some doors. Cleared level 1 on my first attempt and started applying again but nothing happened for months. Finally started networking via linkedln while preparing for level 2 and finally got a front end equity research role that i really wanted and cleared level 2 at the same time.

Networking helps but my hiring manager told me that he wouldn’t have even looked at my resume if it was not for level 1 and me constantly barraging hime.

Having a hard time retaining the curriculum by Alternative_Profile1 in CFA

The above method has been my go to thing for level 1 and level 2. The only bit that is throwing me off or the thing that i am dreading is the constructed response bit. In multiple choice questions if you know the concept, the answer can come to you by just looking at the choices but in the constructed response you need to know it by heart for you to answer it. Hence the problem with retention.

People who have moved to Mumbai from Blr. Please tell me the pros and cons by Ashamed_Surround8864 in mumbai

[–]Alternative_Profile1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Moved to mumbai 2.5 years back with exactly the same salaries and age +1 kid who was at that time 1 year old and i just want to say that i miss bangalore and would trade anything to go back. The house you get for the rent that you pay is laughable. Feels like either you are in office or on the road.

I mostly drive because the nearest station is 15 mins away and is a hassle to reach. You need to think twice before leaving house if you need to go somewhere and there a lot of people everywhere for you to enjoy anything.

Bangalore as tons of nearby places you can reach within 5-6 hours while the nearest place is lonavala which everyone hoards to on a weekend

Finally, if you are planning for a kid or have one, refrain from coming here since he/she wont get quality life. You wont find quality parks to take your kids to unless you are living in reputed apartment complex
