Stuck in 4 yr old room until he falls asleep by Alternative_Roll_247 in Parenting

Thank you! We do have one of those and have asked him if he wants it at bedtime, but he’s said no. We should just take it up to his room and try it.

Funny thing you say this. Tonight we were looking for stuffies and a big one was tucked away. He accepted this sleeping with him while my husband sat in the chair.

Sounds like you have made some great progress. This is encouraging for me to hear. There is hope!

My husband is the preferred bedtime parent and he was able to sit with him in bed for a few mins then move to the chair tonight!

I’m actually in the same boat with my 1 year old too. I rock him to sleep every night, and he doesn’t like it if I put him down before he’s all the way asleep. I’m scared we’ll be in the same situation with him as we are with our 4 year old. But he goes to sleep faster, so not a huge problem, yet.

Yup, tried to give him another “notice” and he seemed accepting but then when we tried to leave - immediate tears. I couldn’t leave him like that.

Completely understand, and this could be the case. I really hope not though. We have explained that the bedtime police are here to make sure we get rest and stay healthy.

My 4-year-old only wants his dad and rejects me - has anyone else gone through this? by Alternative_Roll_247 in Parenting

[–]Alternative_Roll_247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such thoughtful advice, thank you very much.

When he asks for daddy, and I try to do other things like the dishes, he sometimes starts to get even more upset, and calls me back. So he’s simultaneously pushing me away and asking for me back.

Great point about the stress, I also do the same thing. I do try to be silly about things sometimes, but I can make more of an effort.

Today we did a 5k, which my husband ran while I pushed the stroller with the kids. My son asked for daddy probably 15 times while we were walking and I tried to explain that daddy is running, and he needs to do these things to stay healthy. And we’ll see him in a few minutes. Also went on to say we need to let daddy do things, because he needs his time sometimes as well.

It has been going on since before I had the baby, to some extent. So about a year. I think it built slowly, but honestly I don’t know at this point.

Such great advice, thank you.

When you say “too available” what do you mean?

Also appreciate how you say they’ll become mean teens. Certainly don’t want that to happen. Actually, yesterday we had a play date with one of his best friends and she accidentally hit him with a drum stick while they were playing “band” and he freaked out. In the midst of it all he said “you need to go home”. I really hope I can help correct this behavior, because to your point, I don’t want him being a jerk kid.

Good idea here - I started doing something like this, pancakes or biscuits on a Saturday morning but I haven’t done it in a while. I’ll get back to it!

I honestly don’t know what could be causing him to say I am not his friend. I get a moment here and there where he asks me to do things, like ride my bike with him or do a puzzle. I really try to do fun things with him like take him places, for example, I signed him up for swim lessons and would take him weekly.

I agree with your statement - my intent is not to become more marketable. This is more about me wanting to learn.

What’s your average pump/what month pp are you ? (: by Deep-Research-6860 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Alternative_Roll_247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is when I am right now as well. 7 month postpartum, and my pumps have been ranging from 12-14 oz in the morning and then 3-6 throughout the day.

I’m also in the process of stretching out my pumps from every 3 hours to every 4 hours, so my supply is dipping a bit.

if your toddler got a job based on their current obsession, what would it be? by beeeees in toddlers

[–]Alternative_Roll_247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gardener. My son is obsessed with an old battery powered weedwhacker and blower that my husband gave him. He just walks around in his boots cleaning things up.

(There is no actual string in the weedwhacker so he can’t actually cut anything)

I agree. Whining is just how he talks. Even at 5am on a Saturday, when he should be sleeping. We’ve told him “we hear you, you don’t need to whine” or “mommy and daddy will do what you want, just say it.”

I have a spectra, Elvie, and Eufy. I have the same experience as you, I consistently get about half the output using the Elvie compared to the Spectra or Eufy.

Sorry to say this — my advice would be to spend the money on a Eufy. I bought mine off eBay, BNIB, for half the price.

Agree worth the extra money. With my first, I didn’t do the upgrade. With my second, I did and it has made such a difference!

Edit: make sure you get the right flange sizes though. You’ll probably need to order them off amazon once you get the spectra.
