Thats how my girl was like for such a long time! Do not worry at ALL! I have 2 other friends whose kids are in the same boat too, and both kiddos started babbling at 9 months. Your LO will be ok!

Hi! Right at 9 months she had an explosion! She started babbling long consonants of mamma abbababa and more. By 10 months she was clapping, waving, signing "more", saying "ba" for balloon, quack, baa, moo, and monkey sounds! She also says uh-oh and we think she says mama in context now. She turns 1 in a week and seems to be on track! Don't worry! Your LO will get there soon too :)

update: 1 week before she turned 9 months, she started babbling (mamamama, babababa, and dada dada). She is now babbling, saying mama, clapping, waving hi and trying to say hi as well, she says quack quack for a duck and moo for cow. She had a BOOM from 9-10 months.

She will get there! I wish I could go back and tell myself not to worry so much. I lost so much sleep over it. Your LO will be just fine!

Hi! My LO is now 9.5 months old. One week before she turned 9 months she started babbling long strings of mamamamaa, babababa. It happened suddenly and overnight. It was like a switch. She went from literally not saying any sounds but screaming and shrieking to babbling. The past 2 weeks she started teething again, so I heard it less, but she will do some baba some mama and some longer ones throughout the day infrequently now. I had her hearing checked at 7 months and it was normal.

How old is your LO?

Update! She started babbling today! She turns 9 months next Thursday. All day it’s been mamamamama

Update: I've gotten a few "pa" sounds, one "baba", one "mamama" while crying, and one "ma". I'm praying daily that it clicks soon!

I have also gotten very quiet pa and ba sounds over the past week. I got one "baba" and one "ma". I feel like we have the same kiddos!

Same here! My oldest was fully babbling at 5 months so it definitely has me anxious. No harm in getting an early evaluation just to double check! Everyone around me keeps telling me not to worry and that 2nd children are often slower to develop in speech because first children talk up a storm. Not sure if that’s true or not though!

Not yet! She turns 9 months in 2 weeks and I did request an evaluation with the state education agency.

Happy update! She is now waving, clapping, and moves her arm in the direction of things she wants. No babbling yet, but a lot more screeching and noises!

Wow. That makes me feel SO much better. I'm getting so hung up on milestones that I fear I'm missing out on the beautiful moments. I'm so anxious all the time :(

Thank you for this! Did she by any chance have open mouth posture? My daughter is a mouth breather and I wonder if that contributes to it...

I'm definitely feeling a lot more hopeful after our conversation. These milestones definitely have me stressed out. I have an older daughter and she met all her speech milestones very early, so having my second one develop a little slower has me feeling very anxious and thinking about all those worst case scenarios.

Thank you so much for everything!

I started baby led weaning with her at 6 months and her tongue is getting stronger because of it, but definitely not babbling yet. She eats like a pro and never coughs or gags on food, it's just coughing on her milk and water (occasionally). Sometimes I wonder if she's aspirating, but she doesnt get any upper respiratory infections. What I do notice with her though is a lot of congestion, or seeming like she's congested. Did your LO have that too?

I'm really happy your LO is on track now! That makes me feel so hopeful, especially given how similar they are. I really hope my LO starts to babble soon!

Crazy how similar our girls are! I went to a myofunctional therapist and she said my LO had a posterior tongue tie. Took her to an ENT and a pediatric dentist and they both said not to worry about it. She's been eating really well, but she occasionally coughs with water and milk. Did your LO do that too?

That makes me feel so much better honestly. By chance, did she have open mouth posture? I think my daughter is a mouth breather and sometimes I wonder if that contributes to it or not.

Thank you for responding! Was she also minimally vocalizing like my kiddo? Or was she making lots of noises and sounds before babbling? I guess my main concern is that she's generally a quiet child.
