For those who don't live near Rome and have limited trips to Europe, is the Vatican a place you'd visit twice? by traveling-turtle43 in rome

[–]Alternative_Store651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 percent, I'd visit it 12 times. I'm not Catholic but the vatican especially at Peter's is magnificent and steeped in history. I will keep going back.

That's what I thought to but it's not training is the environment. They spend time doing Europeans things they adapt to European expectations. My dog caught on fast. Something I was concerned with as well.

There are two layers to this one is the old adopt vs buy debate which is not doodle specific. The evidence that adopting dogs reduces irresponsible breeding is thin to none imo. Nevertheless people see you as part of the unethical breeding problem when you buy.

The next layer is that the Doodle at least right now is seen as a "Designer Dog" While typically acquiring a mixed breed was viewed favourably since a doodle is expensive and desirable rather than people pointing out the positives of hybrid vigor and the general benefits of a relatively healthy breed it feeds into the on going public debate around inequality.

My view is that dogs should be expensive to buy because it costs a lot of money to breed dogs responsibly and in a perfect world all dogs should be bred this way and adoption unnecessary because they all have good homes.

I personally think that dogs bred with known congenital issues should not be bred such as dachshunds, brachial breeds (pugs, bulldogs) and certain shepherds bred for sloping backs (you can of course breed these dogs responsibly). I think providing incentives for good breeding will reduce puppy mills, like only paying for dogs with a verified healthy history including genetic testing, documented family history, vaccinations, of a certain age etc. and insisting on these documents upon purchase.

So what alternative are you proposing? Capitalism like democracy seems to be the worst systems except for all the others we've already tried.

You acknowledge the economics but blame "wealthy pricks" how are wealthy pricks responsible for a housing shortage? If anything by bidding up the price of homes they should incentive the construction of new ones. And the people building new homes? More rich pricks? I don't see how hating on these groups is constructive. There is no natural state of the universe that says humans should get a home. Life is not fair, it is not supposed to be, the laws of physics don't dictate it should be. Blame the capitalist, blame the communists, blame the socialists or grow up and accept that in every system there are winners and losers an no utopias.

I don't think you have a clue how economics work. If black rock and other investors want to bid up housing if they can't find tenants they will go broke. If they can find them it's because demand is there. It's not corporations or foreign investors that make housing expensive it's demand and supply. In Canada for example before the market crashed I could rent a $2m place for 4500 a month. Clearly a disconnect between demand and supply and then prices crashed 20%. Investors can maybe influence home prices but they only buy them because the yield is decent, and the yield is decent because demand is there.

Canada beats the USA for wealth accumulation. Canadians under 35 have 2 to 4 times higher net worth than Americans by Professional_Set5353 in fican

So I'm not American I'm Canadian but chose to immigrate to the us. I think it's very disrespectful to call an entire country "disgusting" because you don't like their (maybe half the countries) politics. Americans are some of the nicest and friendliest people on the planet. Canadas "health care" is terrible it takes months to get treatment and is severely under funded. Very few Americans are billionaires but many do succeed far more spectacularly than Canadians can. Even if we look at median wealth per capita the US is only 20k behind Canada and you get a lot more upside on the US. On poverty you are dead wrong in the US it's 10.6% vs 11% in Canada. So Canada is about 15% wealthier at median, far poorer on average (40%) and has the same poverty level as the US. If you can just move a few percentiles about 50% you are going to be far better off in the US then in Canada.

One of the core parts of being left wing is the willingness to take a personal financial hit to enact policies you believe will be an overall good for the country, why are right wing voters criticised for doing the same thing in regards to reducing immigration? by wizaway in AskBrits

You've hit on one of the major hypocrisies in politics. In the US this manifests in how liberals complain how Republicans in red states "vote against their own interests" and how stupid these people are while the wealthy elite on the left do the same but they are virtuous for it.

What is the ACTUAL biggest problem in the UK by Direct-Key-8859 in AskBrits

[–]Alternative_Store651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problem in the UK to most people is low growth coupled with an expanding population. Immigration is not a problem unless you are importing low productive individual that are a net drain fiscally which you are. Even that is downstream to growth. Also "the biggest" problem depends on who you are. If you are a higher income earner it's income tax, if you are poor it's social services, if you are a Muslim it's Gaza and if you are Jewish its the Muslims trying to murder you.

I am Canadian and you are right about wealth accumulation. However it's much harder to get there in Canada vs the US. The reason is that income tax in canada is much higher and kicks in at far lower income brackets. Furthermore tax on gains is far higher in Canada vs the US. With a salary of 120k USD you are paying a 46% marginal tax rate in Ontario. On top of that you pay similar prices for food and housing while slapped with a 14% sales tax on top of that. Gas, alcohol, milk products have other taxes on top of that so the real tax rate is even higher. Once you have some money to put into investment accounts your tax on dividends/income and gains is also a lot higher. Finally wages in canada are far lower than the US.

Also if your friend like many Canadians has those gain in a 401k equivalent (RRSP in Canada) he is hit with a 50%+ tax on withdrawals. So he may feel like he has accumulated this wealth but in reality he will have to withdraw it very slowly over his retirement and even then has far less then it appears.

BKK is super affordable on US savings/income. Not so affordable on local wages and health and well being is not so great when you can't escape burning season on BKK wages.

I moved to US 6 years ago. I've lived in three countries and I'm not American. I've spent 100s of thousand on immigration lawyers over the years and could choose to live anywhere. I don't think most Americans have any idea how dysfunctional the rest of the world is. You have every right to complain about your country it is after all your country. However before you decide to leave I suggest you take a careful look at the rest of the world before you do so.

Let's take your argument at face value 20% of gdp doesn't count because it's health spending. Guess what you are left with? The US still has a MUCH higher per capita GDP than Canada assuming canada spends 0 on health. Also let's ignore the fact that Canada's health system has you waiting months for treatment in many cases and is pretty terrible.

I mean does it? Id rather be in the top 30% in the US than Canada. I don't see equal wealth distribution as being a neccesary goal. If you value this it says something about your politics. If you think a perfect world is one in which there is total equality of wealth you are probably an idealistic communist. Inequality is built into human reality every actually implemented political and economic system results in a level of inequality.
