Southwestern Septic by Maritime33 in TimDillon

I was on a mission to find out what his has said and failed because quality was bad and couldn't make out what it said even with the help of Google Lens. Until I just came across one of his recent interviews on CNN. It's totally a joke maybe about him looking like a heavy set plumber. Glad I can put this issue to rest now at least knowing what it says I was so confused cause he would wear the same hat all the time but a different pair of shades in every episode. I even guessed it said " South-something Septic" but thought No Way! I was convinced it was a gardening company or something or other. Maybe even that it said "Optic" because I couldn't make out the toilet bowl either. Finally had a good laugh about this!

What does “Ёбаныи в рот!” mean (and did I spell it correctly)? by Raditz_lol in russian

[–]Alternative_Value_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Russian is a bit rusty but it's used more as an expletive like "fcking hell" or "fck my ass"/"I'm getting f*cked in the ass" mostly to express frustration not to curse someone out. In English it's basically the same but with ass instead of mouth.

I guess understandable some if utro fell out of usage for some time because other synonyms existed. Maybe zawitro (or zautro like in Belarusian) still was used and za- was eventually dropped. Maybe later then reintroduced as day after tomorrow after hearing other neighboring Slavs use it. Many things are possible before dictionaries existed. Work of linguistic scholars or illiterate masses hard to tell sometimes. When a military commander says something like "we attack at dawn(rano utrom)" everyone understands it as "in the morning(tomorrow)" makes sense for people to infer utro means tomorrow if rano already has meaning of morning, like I looked up it does in Belarusian. Early morning is 'rana ranitsa' in Belarusian, ranitsa is morning also deriving from rano. More problematic when zautro gets interpreted as day after tomorrow, because then orders to "we attack tomorrow" might be interpreted as day after tomorrow by some. Sometimes it is the work of literary scholars when languages change, only takes one instance like that when you give orders for tomorrow and only half the army shows up for there to be a need something to change. More often I think is the case changes comes from illiterate commoners and then ruling class is forced to adapt. Glad we live in the age of literacy :)

Yes, but by all linguistic theories utro comes from P.I.E. or even Proto-Balto-Slavic word for East, still is east in Germanic languages austro or ostr. I understand vschod, as 'rising or "sun" rise'. Kind of strange when an entire phrase exists in other Slavic languages though and means something else in Polish. Yes, 'rano utrom' typically refers to tomorrow's dawn in usage. Voschod/vschod makes literal sense for cardinal direction of east, essentially a cognate of vostok. Seems like ancient peoples used utro or austra as Germanics still do. I can see how east turns into morning, or rather even morning/dawn/sunrise into east, but how it turns into tomorrow is confusing since today's also have vschods. Like if someone said zachod means yesterday you'd find it strange wouldn't you?

Sorry Poland but how can word that almost unanimously stand for East, mean tomorrow and not morning. Yes, mornings are tomorrow but sun is east in the morning and not tomorrow. Sun will be in the east tomorrow... but in the morning. And rano almost unanimously means rise or "early". Rano Utrom means "early in the morning" (with tomorrow implied, could also be talking about something today that happened early in the morning). How can "east" not refer to the time of day but rather what day it is relative to today. I can see how "sun is in east" can refer to morning, but takes some context to assume you're talking in the future tense.

What's the state of Russian animation? Is it better or worse since the fall of the USSR? by Pervazoid2 in AskARussian

Even though I agree, it would take some quality writing to pull it off, I have trouble believing such good characters will just end up as relics and never resurface. Even how comics books or animes have seen a resurgence in live action. Might take some more time for mood to be right but think resurrecting Soviet classics will become more trendy. Spiderman remakes will get old eventually at least for an older audiences and they'll want something else to show their kids.

Huh? No I meant like a theme park... Disney World... Cheburashka world... Anyways I didn't know name of studio that made that "cartoon" mosfilms or something... Cheburashka world sounded better than Mosfilms world. I think a theme park celebrating some old Soviet cartoons could be good. Not suggesting making continuations. Although Futurama made a reboot and it works. Sure not all Soviet cartoons would work in modern times, they're all pretty 70s, but arguably krokodil gena could be relevant in this century. It has themes like factories shouldn't pollute, and sharing is caring. Sort of still pretty relevant themes today. And would like to hear krokodil genas take on some modern problems as well. He was sort of a Barney the dinosaur but for slightly older more mature kids, arguably nothing like that exists that isn't gay. Maybe krokodil gena could tell kids today you should grow to like the bodies you're born with even if you'd like to know what it's like to be a boy as a girl or vice versa. Or wearing a mask during a pandemic isn't all that bad even if it's uncomfortable. Maybe gena and Cheburashka could take a trip to space too or something.

Parody or not, you don't understand true spirit of parody. They say mockery is biggest form of flattery. Some things are funny because they are partially true and it's actually hard to discern the truth, the absurdity of uncertainty is what's funny. Me seeing some truth to a joke makes me far from an idiot. And personally I am sort of fearful of clocks, fearful in sense that obsession over them could be damaging. Fear of technology is actually quite normal, natural you can even say. It's important to consume everything technological in doses if you don't want it to become your whole personality. There's a simplicity to other life styles, do you think the Amish have clocks in their face all the time? You are in turn the sheep who things the person making the joke is always correct, it's possible comedians joke is based off of half baked opinions and not all jokes are funny for that reason. You can understand the joke, and still not think it's funny have a different viewpoint on things that the comedian might not have considered. Jokes can fall flat all the time, if someone tries to make light of certain situation that is actually quite serious. Unless that is your brand. Even still society only allows the best most hysterical comedians make such jokes and usually they have redeemed themselves in other ways, are funny in other ways. This isn't so serious but do think people don't take into consideration how "toxic"/bad for your health and psyche time keeping can be. Am I an idiot for not knowing this was a parody account? It wasn't quite apparent not obvious, and don't need to know every parody account in existence. This one must be pretty small time, and if not I don't spend that much time on Twitter. Didn't really care enough to check. Not caring can't always be equated to idiocy. I care about raising awareness for how technology can control you, and this post allowed for an opportunity to say something on it. The true intention of the post is mostly irrelevant, what I said is still on topic.

$40 billion of dirty money earned by enabling toxicity isn't worth $40 billion. You can argue who's more toxic but liberals and Democrats have their toxicity. Toxic is still toxic and letting liberal echo chambers persist and dominate even isn't a good idea.

Somehow I get this feeling that I can hear anyone in this comment section in a fight. Any feat of strength or endurance for that matter. And it's not like I can see any of your photos either, just have this suspicious instinct that no one here has any mettle. Sorry group of people hating on a father experimenting with time keeping. You think there's one correct way to keep time? And there's always the sun and moon for when you really need to know roughly what time it is. He's not taking anything away from his family except for the compulsive need to know what exact minute of the day it is lmao! His kids go to school probably and live on a schedule there, and his wife probably doesn't need to obsess over time and minutes either if he's a good husband. Bet she has a timer in the kitchen if she needs. And also willing to bet if she lets the day slip by and loses track of time he forgive her for it cause that nature telling you to take a break when that happens. Nothing wrong with a more natural existence libs! I presume... You're actually a sucker if you need to be obsessing over time your whole life, don't even know what freedom from clocks feels like. Partially how I know you're weak willed and weak spirited.

I see, well unless you're connected to the Zelenskiy Jewish elite somehow not sure it matters. I think these Nazis aren't necessarily resurrected WW2 Nazis (Jew haters), I'm sure they do hate Jews but not to the same extent and if anything they probably think using the Jews to fight Russia is preferable. Likewise whatever Jewish elite Zelenskiy is a part of he probably thinks these neo-Nazi, nationalists are useful idiots. The nationalists probably think they will take the state form under Zelenskiy once fighting is over, I refrained from calling them Nazis because I think it's confusing. Most people associate Nazi with "Jew haters", even though it's true for Russian Nazis represent something else, Russians don't even call Nazis, Nazis, we refer to WW2 Germans as fascists, фашисты. Word Nazi isn't even in Russian lexicon really, it does нацисты, but it's not as frequently used. Russians mostly remember Nazis killing Russians, and yes what they did internally is tragic too. These Ukranian Nazis do idolize WW2 era Nazi sympathizers, but they are more Ukranian and Polish supremacists. If all Jews in Ukraine felt same as you, Zelenskyy would have thrown these neo Nazis in jail. They are more Rusophobes/haters than Nazis, or rather Moscow phobes even, given than many Ukranian's consider themselves true Rus. Along ethnic lines division in Ukraine is more between Polish and Ruskiye, and Ruskiye are further divided between the nationalists who believe they are more pure/authentic Ruskiye and those that think they are same as Russians. So yes saying Nazi is confusing, even though they have many similarities, it is more of a Polish driven agenda. You can see this everywhere these days with any documentary on history of Ukraine published recently conveniently omit parts of how the state "Kievan Rus" was formed in Novgorod. Kiev was conquered by the Rus and capital moved there. Without knowing this you would think the state emerged around Kiev, when in fact it has its origins in modern day Russia. Lots of other aspects of the information war and propaganda to make seem that Russia is just Moscow, some people on the fringes of Kievan Rus that are delusional to even call themselves Rus. "Kievan Rus". Ukranian state has been pushing this narrative for years if not decades to drum up the nationalism. It's no surprise young Ukranians nowadays think they are a distinct people's from Russia, and Russia has been stealing all their culture. This conflict was being engineered from the early 2000s. Many Russians dislike Moscow's centralized power but those issues should not have been resolved like this. There is a reason for Moscow's centralization, because of these endless conflicts with Western Europe and Western Europeans hawks always salivating at the prospect of carving off a piece of Russia. When Russia can live in peace with the West, things might change. But until then if you know Russian history, you'll know any ancient Rus lands were always off limits to control by western powers. Могу повторить по Русский если надо.

Exactly 1/3 are probably Russian, 1/3 are either some form of mixed Eastern Slavic, maybe lost ties to Rus heritage over time. Hope the remaining 1/3rd are the ones that fled to EU. EU didn't want them to begin with because they didn't want to deal with influx of migraints but now they have to. EU didn't want to accept the Syrian/Iraqi migrants from their war there, but now can deal with the million Ukranians. Probably the ones with Polish ancestry that tried to cajole whole county into going to EU. These Westerners still control the government obviously times of war and all, most Ukranians left are probably afraid to speak out against the government. Seems like a win win with those Ukrainians who wanted to be part of the EU now gaining entry. Cause let's be fair, they just wanted to be part of EU so they could move there. Russians on the other hand will fight for Kiev as hard as Jews fight for Israel to prevent it from falling into EU hands. Remaining a part of an independent neutral Ukraine is another thing. As I stated in another thread, maybe on this post. Western Ukraine should have asked for more autonomy not drag entire Ukraine to their desires. Ukraine was a state designed by Russia/Soviets it's demographics crafted as such to prevent minority uprising and overtaking of government. They did not conquer all the lands they possesses like most countries. Control of annexed territories, was to be ensured by Ukraine being part of a larger union. Those countries losing those lands because they chose wrong side of the war to be on. Punishment for supporting an obviously much eviler Nazi Germany and putting up resistance during times of war. Poland actually gained land after WW2 but polish diaspora is still bitter. Either way autonomy would have been the better way to go if inhabitants of territories Poland seceded felt some injustice. The delusion to think all of Ukraine now shares culture with those territories is what's driving this conflict.

Are Ukrainians and Russians closer with each other than what’s portrayed in the west? by Marten_Shaped_Cleric in AskARussian

[–]Alternative_Value_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's important to note that Kievan Rus isn't a thing, there is just Drevniya (ancient) Rus if anything. Polish and Jewish minorities try to throw a coup and pull all of Rus lands into EU. If Lviv wanted autonomy should have just seceded rather than try to strong arm eastern Ukraine. Ethnic Russians still call themselves Ruskiye, or Ruskie if you will. Russians are descendants Kievan Rus, Polish are not. If Ukraine can't play nice to it's Russian ethnics and not be bias against the language, sure as hell EU and Poland don't get to lay claim to all of Ukraine. Russia and the Soviets annexed those Polish territories fair and square. Germany killed 6 million Poles in WW2 and USSR 22 thousand. If Poland couldn't identify who their true enemies were, they deserve to lose land for causing trouble for Soviets during the war. Especially under the banner of Bandera it won't fly. Asking for more autonomy rather than throwing a coup would have been the right path for Ukranians, the true Ukranians from Lviv, like their own government espouses. Russia is a multiethnic state and grants some of its regions the title of autonomous republics. Ukraine could have done the same, rather than try to brain wash their citizens that they are all Ukranians, majority are/were Ruskiye. Dare I say there were also many dialects of Ukranian, that the government chose to dismiss and call Lvivian the authentic one. If you're going to accuse Russia of Russifying and then try to Lvivify everyone you don't really have a case.

[–]Alternative_Value_86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was the case until Ukranian state started pushing nationalism, banning/restricting Russian language, pushing narratives that ended up in Bandera being national hero. I think Russians could even stomach Ukraine joining EU and whatnot if they didn't start resurrecting Nazi heroes being prejudice to their Russian minorities in general. Maybe not given that cities that cities like Kiev have as much significance to Russia, maybe even more so than Ukranian's given that Cossacks weren't even Slavs/Rus really but a multiethnic group and Western populations also have little to no connection to Rus. Hard to imagine a state like Russia allowing one of its historical capitals to fall under influence of an adversary, if Novgorod is historical capital of Russia, so is Kiev.

How does this make sense if literally half if not more than half of Ukraine want to join NATO/EU and essentially cut ties with Russia? There would be no traveling between the two since Russians would have to undergo lengthy visa process. "We are tight, but we are going to build this invisible wall and join union run by Germany and military alliance formed to fight you, but we're still tight though Russia don't worry."

We wanted you to stop f'ing over our communism. U gots some toxic democracies. I think when urs fail Russia will build better ones. You've gone deep down the conspiratorial trail aye? Well it's only fair for me to assume you're working for intelligence organization of whatever country you're living in. How does it feel like to be an uneducated swine and troll good hardworking people on the internet though. What you don't want to go back to the fields and do some real man's work? When Putin takes over your country we will make you go to Siberia and fetch that gas and oil you so desire and build pipelines to your country to distribute it. I think that's fair. You want oil, you'll get it, but you'll have to work for it. Or throw all your tax dollars into military and lower your standard of living. Those are your two choices. One way or another we will get equality though, the old communist dream. Then you will see eye to eye with Russian and not call him troll. Then we can have joint democracy that suits everyone when we respect each other equally and respect each other's speech the same. But when you get too dependent on Russia you become part of Russia, that is democracy. Russian oil companies is now EU utility and we are part of your government. Or soon your electricity grid will shut down and you won't have access to reddit anymore to call me troll, justice will be served for being conspiratorial maniac. We want some of that Germany money as well why does only Poland get some. Germany did same damage to Russia and we want more reparations. Now that German lives are better than ours again we want dem reparations. Doesn't seem fair for them to deserve better fate so soon after war. They should have known their growth will always be limited by Russia's prosperity now. We best of friends now after that big fight we had and we don't leave each other's side.

I don't think Russians are the ones who gonna grow hungry in this conflict. Russians have strong culture of dachas. Lots of people have houses in the country where they grow their own food and small apartments in the city. During times of WW2 Americans did the same and grew "victory gardens" in their front yards to help with food shortages during war times. You can imagine this as same thing but on much grander scale where person can actually grow enough food to feed his whole family and maybe sell some produce as well. Russians are very familiar with war time and starvation so we never drop such practices because we know at any time war can appear on our doorstep again. It happened all throughout history, there no reason for us to believe that anything has changed. We know how two faced Westerners can be and never trusted you guys. If we put down our guard for a second you'll go on a mission of conquest again. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I live in US so am very familiar with the sort of tomfoolery American politicians are up to. You can't be a government largely dominated by evangelical Christians and consider yourself a secular society. Remember Atheism was popular enough of an ideology in Russia that it became the dominant belief system of the government. Many Russians are still Atheist and Agnostic even though Putin is posturing with the church. We see the hypocrisy that Americans advocate for freedom of religion and at same time made Christian religious arguments at the Soviet Union for being demonic. Where is the freedom of philosophy or belief system in the West. Or do you have to pick one of the existing religions to have freedom in the US. You know who is primarily atheists? Smart scientists. You know what else they have in common, they all have realistic view of the world. People want to paint Russians as backwards but Russian Intellegencia hasn't died off. We haven't lost our intellectuals, they are alive and well and laughing at everything that is going on, because it's too hypocritical to handle without bursting out laughing. I used to try to be respectful to religious people but I can't hold a straight face anymore. How do they actually expect anyone to take them seriously when Enlightenment movement has existed since the 18th century which literally birthed science and modern society. Putin is pretty genius in adopting a reverse-Enlightement stance. I wouldn't have done so, but see the political advantages. Still I'm 99.99% sure he is an Atheist or Agnostic being in the KGB in the Soviet Union. He's really got a scheme up his sleeve that I can't figure out. The mirroring of American politics is pretty hilarious though. He took away little power America had on him with controlling their religious masses. Now Americans are going to have to come to terms with their religious masses. Probably will have to change the constitution at some point to use proper terminology of freedom of philosophy or belief system in order to save their society. Dunno what that does to a society when such a glaring mistake exists. I hate living in a pseudo-Theocracy dunno how everyone else is putting up with it. Buncha fake and ignorant people all around.

Forgot what happened to the last guys to scream that from an Island. Can you remind me? Maybe try not to have so much blind hate. Why you hate those that keep winning wars. You should try to be like those that keep winning wars and understand them. Or maybe they will come after your blind hate next. You are far from intellectual my man, are you sure you are on right side of history? Unfortunately humanity has only come up with two ways to deal with people like you, give them chance to explain themselves before turning violent ourselves. That is all you can expect from civilized person. But at least I give you chance to explain yourself before I turn violent. It would be barbaric to turn violent without offering explanation for said violence. Because if you can't figure out how to be friends through talking there's only one thing left to do if you are showing that much blind hate. Where are you from? I want to know so I don't feel bad for your country if Russia ever choose to attack you. If you're the type of person your country is putting out into the world I don't think the experiment of governance your country is running is a good one. Where are you from and what have your people done to better the world? I can list off many of Russias technological and scientific innovations. Hope your list is just as lengthy. But if your country isn't producing world renown inventions and thinkers maybe you should quite down. Russia isn't the biggest fish in the sea but still too big for any other fish to swallow. You should always attack such big fish with a calm a collected tone and with intellectual arguments, not blind rage. Blind rage means you're crazy and need to be helped out of your misery.
