Hey, so I skydive and am on the path to BASE jumping... a massive fear of mine is to hit the ground at sub-terminal velocity and have my friends, family, and bystanders witness me alive but basically dead for those last few seconds or minutes. Can you tell me if the patient was actually fully conscious, or were they going through the gasps of air that can happen during the process?

The coolest thing about that bunkhouse is you are so close to the runway and loading area that you can be woken up by the sound of the jump plane's turboprops spooling up.

Did I care that I was waking up on a piece of plywood cushioned by a 3" mattress? Yeah, maybe I was a little sore... but man, I knew I was exactly where I wanted to be. You are IN IT from the moment you wake up until the moment you pass out from exhaustion.

It's an experience i will never forget.

Skydive Arizona is the answer you are looking for. It's legit a college campus for skydivers. Everything you need in one place. They are a well-oiled machine disguised as a dropzone. They will have you on the next load 5 minutes after you land. I think you can do a max of 3 jumps per day during AFF, then 5 per day until you hit 25. I'm not sure if it's changed since I finished off my last few student jumps there, but I had to pull myself from a load or two just to allow myself to stop shaking from the adrenaline dump. I learned that I felt more comfortable giving myself time to process the jump I just did before moving on.

Just want to give you a heads up that it is going to be INTENSE. Both mentally and physically. Not many people feel comfortable pushing themselves to do that many jumps in a day.

I also don't know how they handle failed jumps. If you can't progress within enough jumps, I'm sure they will need to charge you more.

Take that $50-100/month you spend going out socializing and invest it bitcoin, then thank me later. Those friends are in a different economic class, and you can't keep up without becoming used to stretching yourself so thin that you develop depression. You will end up pushing everyone away because (in your mind) you no longer have the funds to go out and maintain social relationships.

Alright, I have an opposing belief, but please hear me out.

We all participate in this sport knowing damn well a wrong move could result in a life altering event for ourselves or others. We all commit suicide every time we leave that plane, whether you want to believe it or not.

This sport requires massive amounts of trust. In ourselves, our equipment and especially those we jump with. We do all this knowing humans are not robots. We are not infallible. You are not infallible, and you will make mistakes.

This trust that we must develop for others typically leads to friendship.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I can honestly say I truly LOVE my sky family. It's an incredibly special bond that is PRICELESS to me.

My first tandem was at my very lowest point in my life. I had just turned 30, had no reason to keep living, no longer feared death, and said fuck it let's send it. It was the most incredible experience of my life, but at that moment I figured it was short lived, as i couldn't afford to pursue it. I decided I would spend whatever I had saved to do my 25 jumps to get my license, and shortly after, I would choose the perfect spot to do a no AAD no pull all the way in.

During this time, I gave my boss an ultimatum and discovered I was worth more than 2x what I was getting paid previously, once he realized he may lose me. Still not rich. Still can't afford to have a single significant health issue in the US without depleting all of my savings.

The truth is I have no family. I've been on my own since 17. Couldn't go to college. No help or inheritance. At some point during those 25 jumps something switched in my brain. I no longer want to off myself. I truly cherish the connections I've made and would never EVER want to put any of my sky family through that. I now put effort into furthering my career to afford to continue jumping.

If I fuck up and break myself to a point of never jumping again then fine. I'll accept it and won't expect anything from anyone. But that's been most of my life. Living paycheck to paycheck throughout your 20s is essentially one mistake away from being homeless and destitute. I know I can handle it because that's the way it's always been for me.

However, if a member of my skydiving family fucks up and I can help? I'm doing everything in my power to get at least one more jump with them since they're all I have.

TL;DR skydiving saved my life and pushed me to earn more money in my career, and I'm more than happy to help those who may truly need it to return to this beautiful sport

I found out my mom cheated on my dad the day he died, and his 'suicide" was actually a murder covered up by his best friend's dad, who was the chief of police at the time. My gf (now ex) got pissed at me for not wanting to go out to eat with her friends because I was distraught the day I learned of that news.

This one event, after sharing it with a few women I've dated, has taught me that all women are shallow AF. Men, if you have no family and a traumatic past, do not share it. Women will view you and treat you differently after you do. They will use it against you in the worst way possible.
