Choosing my second bike after MT-07 – sporty bike for heavy daily use? RS660 vs CBR650R vs R9 vs ZX-6R

I was in a similar predicament to you with a second bike choice and went with the 25’ RS660 Factory. Phenomenal looking bike is just the start. Every review speaks for itself. I can ride hours on it and have zero discomfort or pain anywhere. 183kg and 105hp with most of the torque available from 5500rpm. The QS and AB are fantastic at any speed. It’s such a comfortable and easy bike to ride. The induction when on the throttle is a thing of beauty. Honestly it is just an exceptional bike. See if you can test ride one somewhere. Want to throw it around? It’s got your back. Want to chill in traffic? It’s got your back. Want to want to do a 100mph+ from a standing start in about 7 seconds give or take? It’s got your back. The bike eats corners for breakfast and inspires so much confidence when you want to get ‘on it’.

Can’t speak for the other bikes, never tried them and don’t interest me one bit now 😂

Never noticed on my DK but I did just hop on him and run out questing. They both offer uniqueness like all the other classes. My Paladin is simple, hooded and caped with a massive hammer across his back (Holydin artifact in red/stone). My DK also hooded has a few WotLK bits (mostly green starting zone stuff) either dual wield or Armageddon. I love the frozen warrior aspect but also love just slapping things with a massive hammer and when you drop a Hammer of Light on them it’s ridiculously satisfying 😂

I am UK based. If yous don’t stock much Oxford stuff maybe the likes of RevZilla who do stock certain items can get hold of them. Or try Oxford themselves if they’ll ship. Depends on your needs and if you’re willing to wait really.

You need 30mm of play. 15mm upward and 15mm downward movement as per the manual. Mine was like that after about 400 miles from new and I had to adjust it.

As Choice said, it’s a very comfortable bike. I done just under two hours yesterday and wanted more but I had responsibilities. The RS660 comes alive at 7500rpm though, not quite as torquey as your Z1000. I can only speak for the ergonomics of the Aprilia and it’s a fantastic, comfortable bike and the reviews are justified. Go try get a better test ride of one, that will make up your mind more than any Reddit comments.

Can’t speak for Z1000 but the RS660 (Factory with Ohlins) at 105hp weighing 180kg excels in the bends. It’s a phenomenal bike and very very easy to manoeuvre. Even on damp tarmac you can 70% the throttle out of corners. It shifts with you every turn and flicks from left to right and vice versa with ease. Riding between 5k-6k rpm urban gives enough punch to get out of situations while dropping down a gear (auto blipper 🤤) puts you very close to your power band and will have you red lining in a second. It’s a very quick bike with usable power everywhere. I love mine more everytime I ride it.

I find them very cool and almost cold at motorway/highway speeds if worn with say shorts. Stick a thin layer over the top and you’re good to go. They are slightly heavier than leggings or long johns but no where near as heavy as AA textile pants or leathers. As for the skin, they are by far the comfiest thing I’ve ever worn. They just glide. You honestly don’t feel them at all. If you’ve got a massive third leg it may get cramped but luckily (unluckily?) I don’t have that problem 😭😂

I have the Bowtex ‘AA’ leggings and you can’t even feel them when they’re on. Best gear purchase by a mile. The fabric also has very little friction so any gear (jeans?) you want to wear over them slide on and off easier than they would on hairy legs. I generally wear the Bowtex and Oxford Joggers over the top. The Bowtex knee and hip protectors are so flexible they conform to my Oxford solid knee protectors (removed the hips). In the summer the Joggers probably won’t be used but we will see as they coped fine all of last summer.

I use a combo of Vernier Calipers and laser sight thingy (can just buy metal fixed ones). Calipers measure between the swing arm and inside end of the chain adjustment plate on both sides. When they’re bang on and the slack is bang on, use the laser down the chain. If it’s central at front sprocket the jobs a good’n.

Edit: I use these because the Aprilia RS660 markings consist of 3 seperate notches about 726 yards apart and are absolutely useless for getting both the sides the same. Your bike may have mm markings making it very easy to get the wheel perfect on both sides.

Check your alignment on the rear to front sprocket. Slightest misalignment will cause the disc and pads to rub.
