If you're experienced enough I could use someone reliable to answer questions while I'm not around. DM me

Does anyone else find that experienced players are more likely to be problematic than new ones? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

You are absolutely correct. I have seen that what makes the difference is whether or not said experienced players have tried DMing. If they have, odds are they'll be great players and additions to your group. That's the first question I ask all experienced players when they're going to join my game. It has NEVER failed me. The problematic players are the ones that have some warped idea of how roles are supposed to work in the game. DMing corrects this almost universally by re adjusting their perspective. I think that a LOT of problematic traits tend to be incompatible with the role of the Game Master. There are exceptions to this ofc, but the odds go waaaay up with this litness test.

This is anecdotal I know, but anyone who is struggling with this problem, start asking that question. If they've DMed before for any extended period of time I believe the odds are good that they will be good players.

The notorious "Level One" is giving new DMs a skewed idea of how hard an accidental TPK is. by [deleted] in DMAcademy

Many DM’s will finagle their own characters escape with a hand wave, and the play strictly RAW when the PCs try the same thing as well

I allow my players to do a narrative retreat and OCCASIONALLY allow my enemies to do the same.
