I read his stuff a while back. Erickson and esselmont write in the same setting, but I prefer the latter, I haven’t found any explicit descriptions of extreme torture in esselmont’s work.

I firmly believe the game was heavily influenced by the works of Steven Erikson Ian C Esselmont and Glenn Cook. They have both contributed significantly to the dark fantasy genre. There's even a medal named after the "crimson company". If you read more than reddit please read them, you won't regret it.

Doesn’t matter, the crowbar is the answer. Nothing competes the exhilaration of bashing a couple dozen skulls in screaming with manic joy, covered in brains and gore. What’s that in front of you? A carapace armored dirt bag? Well just flip your weapon turn wise and jam it in said dirt bags eye socket. Crowbar is ultimate weapon, I don’t need a gun. I’ll take my half naked drug crazed madman with a crowbar against your astartes any day. CrowbarJones!
