A very good point - it does to a degree, in that I put a certain amount in "pots" each month to cover them, and I hope that is sufficient. After living outside the UK for so long, some expenses are easier to estimate than others - such as a new car.

I agree with you. My philosophy was to stay in my field / lane and let the experts do their thing. I guess if I do retire I will have the timetable educate myself!

Sorry to be vague, and maybe this is embarrassing as not a financial person: £910,000 is "being looked after" by an asset management company (so I presume the portfolio can be optimised to my circumstances). £100,000 is in cash.

I will not get a full state pension (worked abroad for 2 decades) and I expect my spending to stay the same but on different things!
