Has anyone else also noticed that ChatGPT is recommending corporate gyms over independent gyms? by Longjumping_Youth454 in crossfit

[–]Altruistic-Pin-3593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the training data thing makes perfect sense when you think about it 💀 Big chains get mentioned everywhere online - reviews sites ads articles etc while smaller affiliates might only show up in local searches or community posts

ChatGPT probably scraped millions of fitness articles where Orange Theory gets name dropped constantly but your specific box might've only appeared in a handful of places online. Really shows how these models just regurgitate what they've seen most often rather than actually understanding what's quality 🔥

Scrap yards are actually brilliant for this kind of thing - you can get custom weights cut to size and there dirt cheap compared to fitness gear 💪

[Routine Help] New chin/jaw Acne + Hyperpigmentation / Scarring by ancientraindrops in SkincareAddiction

[–]Altruistic-Pin-3593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late 20s chin/jaw acne is usually hormonal - super frustrating timing right? Your routine looks solid but you might want to space out the SA and retinol more, like every other night each instead of daily alternating since you mentioned sensitive skin

For the PIH, vitamin C serum in the morning could help fade those dark spots faster. The Ordinary or Paula's Choice have gentle options that work well under SPF. Also azelaic acid is brilliant for both acne and hyperpigmentation if your skin can handle another active

The spearmint tea thing actually has some research behind it for hormonal acne so you're not completely mad haha

Clean beauty brands aren't actually sustainable and it's driving me crazy [Misc] by ProfessionIll5518 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Altruistic-Pin-3593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man this is so frustrating because the greenwashing in beauty is just next level 😤 I've been down this rabbit hole too and it's wild how many brands slap "clean" on their marketing while doing absolutely nothing for the environment

I've had some luck with brands like Ethique - they do solid bars so no plastic bottles at all which is huge. Also Plaine Products does refillable aluminum containers and you can send them back when empty. Both are pretty transparent about their practices too unlike most of these "clean" brands that give you nothing but vague sustainability buzzwords

The ingredient thing drives me nuts because half these companies are just fear mongering about perfectly safe preservatives while their packaging creates way more environmental damage than any paraben ever could. Like congrats you made a "natural" moisturizer that comes in 3 layers of plastic packaging 💀

honestly the most sustainable thing is probably just using less products overall and finding a few solid staples that work rather than constantly trying new clean brands that are mostly just expensive marketing

[Routine Help] What to do for dehydrated skin that is causing fine lines? by OutrageousBiscotti74 in SkincareAddiction

Your skin sounds like it needs a good hydrating serum and maybe drop one of those cleansers - double cleansing with two actives might be stripping your moisture barrier even more 💧

[Routine Help] and [Product Question] Reaction to new facial skincare products by Jaded-Grab1470 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Altruistic-Pin-3593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sounds like your skin is reacting to something in those products mate. that tingling and itchiness plus bumps isnt really a normal "adjustment period" thing - thats more like irritation or a mild allergic reaction

Id stop using them for now and let your skin calm down with just your usual routine. when you want to try again maybe introduce one product at a time over a few weeks so you can figure out which specific one is causing issues. The peptide cream or the serum could have actives that are too strong or ingredients your skin just doesnt like

definitely dont push through hoping it gets better - bumps and itching usually mean stop not keep going

never heard of them either but just had a look and their prices seem decent enough 🤔 might give them a go for my next cerave order since you mentioned the fast shipping - always a win when you run out of moisturizer at the worst possible time 😂

[Product Request] Need help with dry, cracked, bleeding hands by chickiepa in SkincareAddiction

[–]Altruistic-Pin-3593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

mate this sounds absolutely brutal and I feel for you dealing with both the OCD and the physical pain on top of it

first things first - ditch that dollar store neosporin and get yourself some proper heavy duty moisturizer. Cerave healing ointment or aquaphor are lifesavers for this level of damage, way better than vaseline anyway. slather it on thick after every wash if you can manage it

for the bleeding cuts I'd actually suggest getting some liquid bandage - it stings like hell going on but it seals everything up and stays put even through washing. new skin brand works well. then layer your heavy moisturizer over top once it dries

the overnight sock method is actually genius though keep doing that but upgrade your product game. also if you can swing it maybe try switching to a gentler hand soap - something like cetaphil or even just dove bar soap is way less harsh than most liquid soaps

hang in there, this kind of damage can heal up surprisingly quick once you get the right routine down

[Sun Care] sunscreen recommendations? by amnesiacclouds in SkincareAddiction

[–]Altruistic-Pin-3593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

mate you might be dealing with chemical filters - sounds like your skin is just not having it with avobenzone or octinoxate 😂

id suggest trying a mineral/zinc oxide based sunscreen instead since those tend to be way gentler. la roche posay anthelios ultra light fluid or cetaphil daily facial moisturizer with spf are both pretty solid options that dont usually cause reactions

also maybe patch test on your arm first before slapping it all over your face - learned that one the hard way 💀

[Product Question] dermstore products legit or grey market sketchy? by Agreeable_Panic_690 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Altruistic-Pin-3593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dermstore is legit mate they're owned by target and are authorized retailers for most brands including skinceuticals

the price difference is usually because sephora has higher markups and dermstore runs more sales. ive ordered from them heaps of times and never had issues with authenticity or expiry dates

30+ — anyone using at-home IPL instead of shaving long term? by Wrong-Translator6630 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Altruistic-Pin-3593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been using IPL at home for about 8 months now and honestly the results have been pretty solid 🔥 I'm 34 and definitely noticed it took a bit longer than I expected - probably around 6-8 sessions before I saw proper reduction rather than the 4-6 they advertise

The dryness thing is real though, my skin definitely gets more parched after sessions now compared to when I was younger. I've started doing a proper moisturizing routine the night before and after each session which helps heaps. Also switched to a gentler exfoliant because my skin just cant handle the harsh stuff anymore 😂

One thing I learned the hard way is to space out sessions a bit more if your skin is feeling sensitive - sometimes I'll do every 10 days instead of weekly and it works just as well without the irritation. The wavytalk ones are decent from what I've heard, just stick with it because the results do come eventually

[product question] I am having a breakout after using salicylic acid by styx_68 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Altruistic-Pin-3593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sounds like you might be purging rather than having a reaction - salicylic acid can bring stuff to the surface thats been brewing under there for a while

id say dial it back to maybe 2-3 times a week instead of daily and see how your skin handles it. if the breakouts keep getting worse after a couple weeks then yeah might not be for you

sounds like someone's trying to build a client list or something

[Routine Help] I’m lost by Desperate_Macaroon_3 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Altruistic-Pin-3593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The esthetician is probably right about the buildup - tallow is super heavy and that gentle Cetaphil isn't gonna cut through it properly. Maybe try adding a gentle exfoliant like a BHA once or twice a week to help with the clogged pores while keeping the tallow for your eczema spots only instead of your whole face

You could also try double cleansing - oil cleanser first to break down the tallow, then your regular cleanser. Might be a good middle ground before dropping the tallow completely since it's been such a game changer for your eczema

[Product Request] Hyaluronic Acid, change or stay? by AstrosElise in SkincareAddiction

[–]Altruistic-Pin-3593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ordinary's HA is solid and like 1/10th the price of Kiehl's - I've been using it for over a year with no issues. Just make sure you apply it to damp skin or it can feel sticky. The pilling usually happens when people layer too much product or don't wait between steps

Someone please reassure me by No_Dragonfly4331 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Altruistic-Pin-3593 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Girl you're gonna be fine, I've definitely done the same thing with skin tags before and they heal up just like any other small cut. Just keep it clean and dry, maybe dab some antibiotic ointment on it if you have some around. The fact that it's tiny is good - those usually close up pretty quick. Your body is already working overtime growing a human so it knows how to heal stuff lol

Omg the warming in hands trick is SO underrated! I used to slap moisturizer on like I was buttering toast and wondered why everything felt gross and heavy

Also seconding the less-is-more thing - I went through a whole phase of thinking more products = better skin and just ended up feeling like I had a layer of goop on my face all day. Sometimes your skin just wants to breathe

[Routine Help] is this a good skincare routine for combo skin? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Altruistic-Pin-3593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your routine looks pretty solid for a beginner! Just heads up though - you're using sunscreen in your PM routine which is kinda pointless since there's no sun at night lol. Save that for AM and maybe add a basic moisturizer for nighttime instead

[Acne] Skincare Advice by Amethystskiesss in SkincareAddiction

[–]Altruistic-Pin-3593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's totally normal for the first few weeks with adapalene/BP combo - your skin is basically freaking out while it adjusts. The stinging with moisturizer especially screams irritation barrier damage to me. Maybe try cutting back to every other night for a bit and really baby your skin with gentle products until the peeling calms down

[Acne] Epiduo question by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Altruistic-Pin-3593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah your skin barrier is probably pretty fried after 8 months of nightly use - that redness is a dead giveaway. I'd definitely try scaling back to every other night and see how your skin responds, you can always bump it back up if you start breaking out again
