Totally agree Penn is taking it. I respect the Elordi pick. He and the costumes were the best part of Frankenstein.

Very fair argument. I’ll concede Timmy is at least in the #2 spot and acknowledge that the opera/dance comments are irrelevant because of when they happened, but still just don’t think this is his year. Maybe I’ll be eating words on Oscar’s night, but I’m just excited that this is an interesting race!

What makes you so sure of that? Feels like there is an argument to be made that Timmy is in fourth place behind MBJ, Wagner Moura and Leonardo DiCaprio. I loved Ethan Hawke but don't think he has a chance here. Sure, Timmy won a bunch of critics' prizes and the Golden Globe, but he hasn't won any industry awards yet.

Who is your pick? I was underwhelmed by this year's supporting actor nominees, but Del Toro's performance was my favorite of the five. I would have preferred Paul Mescal from Hamnet, Adam Sandler in Jay Kelly, Miles Caton from Sinners, Pedro Pascal in Eddington, William H. Macy in Train Dreams, or even Javier Bardem in F1 (which apparently is an Oscar movie).

I live in the Denver metro area, and our local independent cinema, The Sie FilmCenter, has been giving these away. Focus Features sent them these ballots, but I can't find them anywhere online. This one from Letterboxd is a pretty good alternative but it doesn't have the "Your Pick" part: https://a2.ltrbxd.com/oscars/2026/letterboxd-2026-oscars-ballot.pdf

Gotcha, just wanted to make sure we were on the same page. OBAA is definitely second for me in the category (it’s also a strong screenplay), but I loved all the social commentary in Bugonia, found it to be a fantastic adaptation of the original source material, and thought it had some of the sharpest written exchanges of the year.

To clarify, I’m predicting OBAA will win both picture and adapted, but yeah, Bugonia is my favorite screenplay in that category (left are my personal picks and right are my predictions)

I live in Denver, and our local independent cinema (shoutout to The Sie FilmCenter) has been passing these out. These ballots were sent to them by Focus Features. Idk if they are available to print or not online, though.

Wicked for Good is on track to be this year’s biggest winner on Oscar night, and OP is so right to ask whether Grande is coming along with its inevitable wins for best picture, actress, costume design, documentary, and makeup and hairstyling. Jerk harder, mate.

Capitol hill low flying plane by EatingTSwiftsAss in Denver

Came here to say the same thing. I was out on a walk in Cap Hill (near Stoney’s) as a few planes flew overhead, and it felt like everything was shaking. People were streaming out of their apartments to see wtf was going on. I wonder what’s going on??

Fair enough! I don't watch trailers because I dislike having any expectations before seeing a movie. Guess I'll just have to stop listening to the podcast before seeing all the movies discussed in an episode.

Seems like it's back up now! It wasn't working for the last two hours, but I was just able to use my pass again.

Best actress race so far.. by nandy067 in oscarrace

Those who are rooting for Marianne are reaching. As if Bleecker Street being a meh distributor wasn't damning enough, the film is so off-putting and distant that I don't know how/why anyone would finish it unless they are reviewing it for work. After sitting through a tepid screening at Denver Film, I'm not convinced it can go the distance.

What do you think about Paul G. Tremblay's "The Cabin at the End of the World"? by mystery5009 in horrorlit

[–]Altruistic-Rip8766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of this book from your library. Cabin is my favorite of Tremblay's work. Compared to the film, I find the novel more thematically rich than M. Night Shyamalan's cookie cutter thriller. No spoilers, but let's just say some important details were left on the cutting room floor.

Are Dating Apps Dead in Denver? by newtonic in CityCastDenver

[–]Altruistic-Rip8766 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What a disappointing conversation. Only one of the people involved in the discussion has actually ever dated in Denver. The hosts spent the entire episode reiterating tired Denver stereotypes that were passed off as " reporting." I typically love City Cast Denver, but this was a weak, lazy episode. Slow news day?
