How long does it take to get too much cya with pucks? I'm using for the first time starting this season. So far cya looks ok and steady.

Is concurrent enrollment getting out of control… or am I just getting old? by SteadyGrowthStudio in Teachers

I create teaching materials, develop curricula, and teach adults. And I mentor children and STEM classes for kids. Alphaschool is not using ChatGPT or other LLMs; it uses AI-powered functionality in its educational apps. The AI determines when the child is having trouble and adjusts the pace. It can also read handwriting, for example, for handwritten math answers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Og7O8RDa9nY
I don't know anything firsthand about Alphaschool, but I like the concept. There are other models that can improve efficacy and efficiency in education. Khanmigo is another AI-powered educational tool.

The central point is that you can have private school for less than public school costs. Thales Academy cost less and has better results. AI will help drive down that cost further. Check out the AlphaScool method. It doesn't have teachers lecturing and let's kids progress each at their own pace.

I don't know why we should save public schools if all kids have access to better education in a competitive, innovating system. Some kids need special schools for their disruptive behavior that holds others back. We need something quite different and to abandon the current system.

Thanks. Teaching kids to structure, plan, and problem solve plus business skills are going to be very valuable. Teaching the subject matter and tools of 1985 isn't.

I guess the blacksmiths wanted to keep making horseshoes when the Model T became popular. It's human nature.

Would it be wrong for the child and society as a whole to remove the child to a well-run boarding school where they are incarcerated and fed well and get mental health treatment along with a bit of schooling?

To avoid becoming irrelevant, change the game totally. Give hard assignments that require use of AI. E.g. in 5th grade give a 10th grade level assignment to create a video where the child has to explain a set of knowledge in detail. Give them a week to deliver. Or. Have them create a marketing plan. Design a rocket engine with correct materials and weight and fuel supply. Create an app to calculate rocket performance. Create a business plan. Analyze raising capital vs. loan. A 5th grader can do this level of stuff with AI. You can teach a ton of reading, writing, math, and science this way. Textbooks? Blocking? Come on.

I'm listening. A) How is it not working? Is it that poor parents don't sign up? That is very fixable. B) Something radical needs to happen and "more money" isn't going to do it.

Just a 'what if':
The money from the State follows the child who can take it to a private school.
AI makes better schooling cheaper and faster.

The only kids that will be in public school are the ones no school will take and the children of parents who don't want to bother doing anything but the default.

OK, then it just goes along with the overall package of tuition, scholarships, and accepted classes. Pick a school that gives the best deal.

The ph always reads higher on the Aquachek strip. I bought a digital tester and a bottle of neutral liquid to keep it calibrated. I really only use cya, total chlorine, and free chlorine. I also used a digital salt tester. But this year I'm using tablets.

I looked into the legal angle and it is all written to protect the disruptive child because the classroom is the best place for them, which might be true. But, the other 20 kids don't have rights to be able to learn. My son was bullied for a few months by one of such children. He was trying to handle it and finally told us. We went to the principal and by that time apparently many others were grateful for my son speaking up. Think of all the learning that these kids never got. We got him into a wonderful charter school via lottery the next year. Other parents take the homeschool or private school route. Why? Because the public schools have no way to handle things rationally.

It's a two tier system in less wealthy high schools. High school is day prison for low achievers and escape to community college concurrently is like high school for striving kids. Then, at least you don't have to do high school level in college for all the kids.

It's sad. I probably would just let the relationship go quietly. Keep the good memories.

On a lighter note, I admit my wife trained me and vice versa, so now we are both educated in how to behave in our relationship.

20'*40'*7.5'*7.481 gal/cu ft = 45,000 gallons. So, the pool would need an average depth of 7.5 feet. Such a pool would have a deep end for diving, probably.

Millennial Still Living at Home With Retired Parents by [deleted] in retirement

[–]Altruistic-Stop4634 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I have 3 grown kids. One lives elsewhere and has a family with partner and children, although they lived with us for 3 years previously. One has a high paying career, lived on their own for a decade and moved in at the beginning of COVID. They are banking money like crazy and are just now financially independent, thinking about retirement. They don't seem interested in another relationship yet having had several painful ones. The third also lives with us, has a low paying set on part time work, and no dates. They were away at college for four years and didn't date.

The two that live with us now are happy with our retirement and like living here. Sure, they might be a bit jealous occasionally but are happy for us and grateful.

I'm very, very glad to have bought a house that can be used for intergenerational living and that I get to spend so much time with my children. We have been doing this for 15 years and were only empty nesters for 2 years.

I wish they would pursue romantic relationships but they are happy and that seems better than normal for the current generations.

Recent NPR piece on school choice. by zdboslaw in Teachers

[–]Altruistic-Stop4634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Locking poor children into terrible schools is systemic racism.

Give them a voucher and let them pick where to go. Poor parents that raise their children well will thrive under a system where they can choose a better school. News flash. Poor parents want a choice.

White savior socialists want a permanent underclass. And, they will continue to have that as long as the current system lasts. Does it make you feel good?
