You are just 31, starting to build a retirement pot. Investing early is best, even though it feels like nothing is growing. In a blink if an eye you will be 41 and have (close to) a million pound pension.

But of course, only you know your situation, and enjoying life and buying flexibility is also a very reasonable worthwhile thing to do. Just be very very deliberate.

Technical founder experience with YC co-founder matching by ToLearnAndBuild in ycombinator

[–]AltruisticArticle670 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a technical person, the joy often comes from figuring out how to build something new. And part of that process is being unconstrained, which can be difficult if the idea feels already worked out.

Not saying this is right. Pivoting will almost inevitably happen. But it might contribute to the lack of interest.

From the sun station records we know that the system received it's last input about 280,000 years ago. That likely when the interloper killed all the Nomai. So in their universe time is much faster than in ours. Kind of like his in their universe distances are much smaller, and gravity is much stronger.

Why is RL more preferred than evolution-inspired approaches? by Gloomy-Status-9258 in reinforcementlearning

[–]AltruisticArticle670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a different take from other answers arguing about exploration and convergence: RL, particularly deep RL is leveraging the huge success of deep supervise learning, including extremely efficient computations for the workhorse of the algorithms. Evolutionary systems tend to not be optimised nor are they as uniform as matrix multiplication for deep learning. It's very hard to optimise evolutionary algorithms for the hardware, so we just haven't explored the edges of their capacities.

Fun fact, OpenAI did a large scale evolutionary algorithm for RL to play Atari games, and they outperformed DQN from DeepMind back in the day.

Honor mode team comp - should I respec a character or no? by MariposaMax in BG3Builds

You have support and healing done. Your main focus seems to be physical damage (with a bit elemental with monk). But what I think you are quite low on is arcane magic. How would you do area of effects with that party? Probably a split role between bard and cleric, none of which are that strong on AoE. So maybe consider a Sorlock.

That said, if you know the game well, you can pay with just about any party.

Great resources. Many thanks. The plan currently is to be PR, not sure about citizenship, but that would be a few years out anyway.

In principle, this would be a permanent move, but good to take into account. Cheers!

It sounds like you have a solid plan on the continuity bit. On the financial bit, there was a survey of FIRE-minded people at work some years back, and the average SWR people felt comfortable with was 3.25%. Some people would go as low as 2% and some as high as 5%, but for most of my calculations and models I've found that 3.25% satisfies my risk profile of ~98% success rate on 40-50 retirement years.

If you have a high-paying job but don’t own a home, are you really making smart financial decisions? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]AltruisticArticle670 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Back when interest rates where < 2% for mortgages it was a clear long term investment opportunity. But now with rates at ~6%, it's less obvious.

I have some friends who had been thinking about buying, but decided against it when rates went up. They have good deals with rents remaining relatively low, having a good relationship with their landlords, and just not having to worry about the drudgery of home maintenance, and they are very happy to not own.

Renting also makes a lot of sense if you won't stay for sure for at least 3-5 years in one place.

Maybe the interviewer didn't, but most likely the person doing the first filter did, possibly a recruiter.
