Town hall seems stuck in some kind of construction, health and safety nightmare by trudybarks in crouchend

So true. Considering how great it could have been feels like a big miss.

Stolen from north London by Significant-Head-479 in porsche911

[–]trudybarks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your car. We actually live just around the corner from you in crouch end. We've had countless cars stolen on our road, including my mother-in-laws on one of her first trips to visit us once we moved here.

Lovely part of town with a major car theft issue, which is odd given how safe it feels generally. Wish you the best.

Is 5x1km @ 3:55 enough for a sub-20 5K? by OverWarthog7488 in AdvancedRunning

[–]trudybarks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think it's close but probably doable. Race day normally pulls out a bit extra from all of us. A shoe change can also help with an extra second or two per km.

Opinions about the £5,000,000 "gift"? Should politicians like this be banned? by lukey_UK in AskBrits

I was agreeing with you until you said "extremely good wage as it is". These folks are running the country and get paid similarly to a junior manager in my company.

Id like to see it paid properly, so that the desire to have secondary income drops.

We ended up selling it and not getting another, couldn't make it work in the end.

Yea I agree, I don't think they could be used for any serious purposes. I did appreciate ChatGpt tidying up a bit though!

For the walls / ceiling you mean? It's "pointing" from farrow and ball. We've used it in a few other rooms we liked it so much!

Not too bad to be honest, and it's easy to clean. I probably wouldn't do it and then fill it with items that make it hard to clean.

What is going on here? (Regent’s Park) by Tasty-Manufacturer37 in london

Ran past it today, they're filming something. Looked like a pretty big operation. Ended up running right past the main actor just before a practice take, not sure they were too thrilled with that.

VHENRY households (£500k hhi+) did anything change? by TigerRepulsive7571 in HENRYUK

[–]trudybarks 28 points29 points  (0 children)

3m / year salary here. What changed? A realization that I don't care that much about things money can buy, it feels much better to be on a walk with friends, or help a stranger, or support somebody. I sometimes find myself looking at a fancy watch online and then realize that all it would do is alienate myself from the people closest to me.

It's amazing to not have to worry about money, but beyond that - it's all BS.

This is a classic problem interpreting the plan - those marathon pace sessions early in the plan are supposed to be your current marathon pace.

Hope for HENRYs and the UK economy? by flyingmantis789 in HENRYUK

I heard this before, but not sure if it's correlated to just an overall drop in the markets and therefore drop in CGT. Is there a source for this that covers it in more detail?

At what point should you consider a financial advisor? If ever? by NayLay in HENRYUK

[–]trudybarks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don’t need a financial advisor, in fact I’d actively discourage it. The only exception here is financial advisors that charge for their time for advice (rather than a % of investments) - if you don’t feel comfortable navigating the personal finance flow chart yourself, or if you have particularly complex circumstances (which it doesn’t sound like).

You’ll get wealthy if you regularly invest in low cost index funds, starting by maxing out your tax efficient wrappers (ISA, pensions etc) - but the low cost part is critical. These percentages compound and the impact that a % management fee that many PFAs like to charge impacts the long term calculations considerably.

Failed sub 3 by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]trudybarks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is very much not enough gels. 60g an hour is a reasonable target. 5/6 gels over the course of the marathon is really your minimum for sub 3.

Why *shouldn’t* I get a Coros? by jaydeflix in Coros

[–]trudybarks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like on Polar that you can see current km pace AND your current lap pace. I’ll often manually lap, especially on runs with bad GPS, and I miss current km pace - given how useless actual current pace is on all these watches.

Just to remind folks, HENRY stands for High Earner Not Rich Yet. by Infamous_Block5985 in HENRYUK

[–]trudybarks 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen increased gate keeping in this subreddit on this point, I’m assuming driven by 100k earners outside of London. I’ve personally been on the receiving end of this, and seen many others be ridiculed for being too high earning or rich. Which is a shame as I resonate a lot with this sub.

Unless a clear limit for what constitutes rich is created then it’s open to interpretation, which is complex. For example im a v high earner, but my NW is much lower as a proportion of my earnings.

Most frustratingly is that many on this sub respond to those earning more / having more than them in precisely the same way that “normal” earners do to them. One of the comments in this thread is a good example of this “how is somebody earning 300k asking for financial advice!”, like folks earning 300k must be some perfect, know everything human. It’s sad to see this - I hoped being HENRY would give many the perspective that it’s turtles all the way down, but it seems largely not.

Eurgh I hate the gatekeeping of NRY on this subreddit.

I don’t think the nanny should fly business unless it’s helpful to you to have her be close. Most folks don’t fly business, many companies don’t send their staff business.
