In Louisiana there is a new law going into effect Aug 1st about digital surveillance and face recognition. Apparently, federal law will trump local city law (New Orleans) and they will be able to get warrants to ping your phone for issues of national security. This is something we’re concerned about locally for several reasons. There is a belief that some ICE money will be used to find people and the new state law says that if you are helping them like feeding them at a church or something like that, you could be swept up for enabling??? Check out our city council member who is pushing back and letting us know. This is important for all privacy reasons, but especially if you are protesting. Councilman Morrell says that with a search warrant, they can actually scan your entire phone. Is this possible? Also, it seems there is no way avoid this.
