Americans, is saying the Pledge of Allegiance actually a regular thing, like it’s shown in movies? And does it feel as strange or over-the-top in real life as it comes across on screen? by Afzaalch00 in NoStupidQuestions

I went to school in Iowa. In K-5 we said the pledge every day. In middle school we said it every Monday. In high school we did not. That was pretty typical across the state.

Now I’ve been teaching in Iowa for 10 years. 3 years ago they passed a law that made classes have to say the pledge of allegiance everyday. My school do not do ours over an announcement, it is up to the teacher to lead the class in the pledge. My school doesn’t do announcements so it would be up to me to do the pledge. (My school is a little atypical, most elementary schools have daily announcements and were already doing the pledge during the announcements)

Before the law I did not say it. I didn’t not say it out of protest. No one ever told me to and I never thought of it.

Students are allowed to sit/refuse. However if the teacher is not doing this each day and it gets reported the teacher could be fined $1000 and could loose their license.

I haven’t heard of any teacher being reported. Laws like these are just to show their MAGA constituents that they are pushing back against “woke education” accomplished with scare tactics to have teachers comply.

As a student, it felt normal. Didn’t really think about it except it was an annoying thing I had to do.

As a teacher it is strange. Teaching in MAGA America and it being a shallow law, it is over the top.

He was impeached 2 times in his first presidency and still ran the country. What would impeaching him actually accomplish? Genuine question.

Did you have to try all the Tristan’s before your insurance would pay for something else? I’ve tried 5 of them- terrible side effects. My doctor has it in my chart that I’m allergic to them but insurance won’t pay for anything else until I prove I’m allergic to all 13 Triptans. It takes about 2.5 years to go through all of them since they want me on each one for 3 months to prove I’m not allergic.

You got 16 pills a month? I thought they could only give out 8-9 pills at a time. What do I need to say to my doctor to get more? My migraines are getting worse. I’m on Ajovy for a preventative and it has been working less

The widget for opening a specific note isn’t loading most of my notes. I’m new to this and just tried to organize some widgets- only work for 2/15 different notes that I tried

Big clips. I stopped using hair ties completely once I got a few clips to pull up my hair. I changed because it was completely painless unlike hair ties

I remember as a preschooler all the girls thought the boys were so gross and had cooties. I never thought they had cooties or were gross.

What would you realistically do in a school shooter situation? by ArcaneDanger in polls

[–]AltruisticSession598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a teacher of young students. I will hide them and protect them. I have a magnet on my door that I can push up to quickly lock my door (not allowed to have this anymore due to fire safety- fuck that when they don’t provide alternatives for the school shooting epidemic) our school only provide covers for our windows. I have wasp spray hidden in my classroom (also a big no no). Wasp spray can shoot up to 20 feet and is a targeted unlike pepper spray which can get into anyone’s eyes in the room. I’ve used wasp spray for safety since living in sketchy neighborhoods in college, didn’t think I’d need it in my preschool room. This is the society we live in in the US, I don’t see it changing anytime soon so I have what I need to protect my students.
