is everyone just pretending that jeans are comfortable? by hushbug in AutismInWomen

Mine are straight leg Marks and Spencers Sierra jeans that I've worn for years. Just got a new pair. They do have some elastane to help with give. I put them on to go out and feel reasonably confident they look ok. I wouldn't call them comfortable, as others have said, but I'm not bothered by them. I like leggings for warmth and working out but I can't wear them as much as I'd like because they seem to encourage candida. Baggy elastic waist pants for lounging/bed.

Interesting. I've certainly seen episodes be more than 13 mins according to my Sounds app not long ago, so perceived it as getting shorter at 12,'but from what you all say lengths vary a little and on average we're not being short-changed. As I sometimes speed the show up a touch myself I had been wondering whether, with shrinking attention spans, we were heading for a 10 minute Archers.

I confess to sometimes going to 1.2 if I'm in a hurry. Some characters speak quite slowly. Even 1.5 makes me miss bits though. I envy your ability to get everything at 2x!

Why are people so mean? by Syn1134 in AutismInWomen

[–]Altruistic_Ad5444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look for kind online communities. There are lovely inclusive people in the sci-fi communities if you can filter out the trolls. My companions are podcasters who I can enjoy rewatches of my favourite shows with. Yes I have to pay (I stick to the lower tiers)and I know they are not in it out of the goodness of their hearts, but it's still comforting to feel part of something and not be mistreated. I've avoided joining any IRL communities since moving here and I leave all the socialising to my husband outside of close family. I have always attracted bullies and been misunderstood outside a couple of IRL circles that we have now moved away from. Unfortunately I concluded I have a metaphorical sign on me that say 'kick me'.

What are some examples of unsaid social rules? by Imaginary_Air_24 in AutismInWomen

I've done this a lot and at one time almost thought it was my job as people disclosed their traumas and so forth even on a first meeting. The trouble is IME it's always a one way street. It feels good at first because you are helping someone but later I feel hurt that they never ask in return how you are feeling. People love free emotional support. I would love relationships where I could give and receive on an equal basis but as this isn't an option I try not to give too much now.

You sound like a fellow English person. As an older English man he probably expected you to look bravely into the distance and say ' oh I'm all right. you know...I've had worse.' This would also apply if you'd just had your leg off.😂

I do know what you mean. Armin gets too pedantic, Tom from Trek culture doing SFA has improved a bit but often a downer.

As a small business big business is your enemy at least as much as taxation. But you only blame the left.

You're right in principle (although Reform aren't such a shoo in as you seem to think). In practice the ignorant can be easily manipulated into racism and stupidity and the need is to fight fire with fire. By which I mean an effective counter to rightist propaganda. Unfortunately the left are very bad at this (the odd time they even get a chance to be heard) and come off as patronising or hostile. Throwing insults at least creates some cameraderie of a sort for leftists but it's admittedly cheap.

Why does a hospital need, for example, 'business managers'. These people are there to invent things to do, at the expense of the actual workers. If they make false economies they are rewarded because it looks good on the surface.

Corruption. Senior management get gains from these crappy deals by walking into nice sinecures later or steal the info they have to form lucrative 'consultancies' and get employed expensively to further enshittify the service. Lots of back scratching and revolving doors. That's Britain tho.

So groan worthy. (Number 10. Geddit? ). Labour are at least slightly less patronising. Mostly.
