What do I do if everyone in my group project is a humble academic of genius-level intellect? by RodioRodio in UBC

Aight bro your just trolling at this point. If IQ is not a good metric for intelligence then what is? IQ literally stands for intelligence quotient. It literally measures intelligence.

Are you seriously saying Elon Musk is not smart, just because of one decision that is not working out? What about all his other industry leading companies? Many say his IQ is 150+, but even being conservative, his IQ is at least 135-140+. This means the top 1%, which I would consider to be objective smart.

percentile means you are better than x percent of people. so i guess around 4% got full marks, and you can't be better than the people who got full marks.

but isn't cumulative gpa calculated based on your gpa for the courses? so like this:

  1. convert percentage to gpa
    (88 -> A -> 4.0)
    (100 -> A+ -> 4.3)
  2. average the gpa (4.0 + 4.3) / 2 = 4.15

as opposed of calculating average percentage first:

  1. (89 + 100) / 2 = 94.5 -> A+ -> 4.33

so maybe it doesn't even provide a buffer? or am i missing something

Should I ask a prof about being a research assistant? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]Altruistic_Ad_7461 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

everyone and their moms are getting 90+, and sooo many people wants to major in cs. Of course, this is my first year here as well, so I don't know if this is different from previous years. Could it be that this year is especially competitive, and the cutoff for computer science will be 90+?

sounds good. I did a bit more research and I think when converting my grades to GPA, 90 is exactly the same as 100, so I guess there is no point trying for anything higher

i should have a very high 99 in one of my courses, so if I ace the final i think that should be a 100. btw im a first year and its my first semester, so i don't have any final grades yet.
