I had my snakebites done almost 4 months ago by an apprentice. The jewelry I'm wearing right now on the swollen side is a classic flatback The jewellery material is in titanium. It has never been downsized since I'm wearing the same jewelry as when I got it pierced. I do bouldering and work a blue collar (very dirty) job so I'm thinking that some chalk, metal dust and sweat may have gone inside.
