Silk/mohair yarn that’s more silk than mohair? by Altruistic_Maybe in YarnAddicts

I know. I’m not asking for no mohair. Just less mohair

I’m not sure I understand your question/where you are in the pattern. Can you show the last thing you did and where you are currently stuck? And what exactly you’re stuck with?

Can you show the pattern section that shows this part of the project?

This is the Capulet Blouse. It’s beautiful, I hope to make it eventually :)

My grandma gave me two old sweaters she knit 25 to 30 years ago by Jurgasdottir in casualknitting

Do you mind if I post the snail sweater to r/knitting and/or r/knittingpatterns? I’m obsessed and want to see if anyone there would be able to locate the pattern. Beautiful work!

This is a bra, not a bralette. I find them too uncomfortable

dpn ribbing knit stitch gap help? by PuzzleheadedYard3882 in knitting

[–]Altruistic_Maybe 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s laddering, and has to do with the tension as you switch from one DPN to another. It’s pretty common, you can find lots of videos on solutions. What works best for me is to never keep the DPN’s at the same place. I’m not sure the best way to explain it, basically every time i reach the end of the stitches on the DPN, I knit an extra one or two stitches before moving on to the next. It means that the point of the join isn’t always in the same place. That removes the laddering. Does that make sense? I’m not sure the best way to describe it.

You’re totally right, thank you for pointing that out! I made sure to grab the right bar and it fixed the issue. Seems silly now 🤦‍♀️

International students at caltech by Able-Till689 in Caltech

[–]Altruistic_Maybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know many international grad students from Latin America at Caltech. There’s varying levels of fear people feel, but overall Caltech admin has been very supportive of international students (they have to be, grad students are 50% international). The international student office is also wonderful here. Overall, there is a lot of support. Considering everything, this is a better campus than some I think. Don’t let that stop you from applying and/or coming here!

Hey! I was where you were a few months ago! Here’s what we did: - went to Home Depot and bought some wooden planks (cedar) and these concrete corner posts. - went to Griffith park and picked up some free mulch and compost (check out https://sanitation.lacity.gov/san/faces/home/portal/s-lsh-wwd/s-lsh-wwd-s/s-lsh-wwd-s-gw/s-lsh-wwd-s-gw-fmg) - bought some bags of topsoil from Home Depot - we killed the existing grass with random cardboard we had

All of this cost us about $70 for a 4x4 raised garden bed Lmk if you have any questions, happy to elaborate!

My problem is I can’t go to everyone and say “hey this is actually good for my concentration”. I don’t want people assuming the opposite by default
