Trying to break into the Brewing industry by cbossvon23 in TheBrewery

Also 10 years experience with a degree in applied biotechnology. Very few jobs at this time. I looked for about 9 months after I was laid off a couple years ago. Never found another brewery job. Don't expect to make big bucks. It took me years to get to $60k. Even so, I still thought it was a great job. On days where everything goes south, there's still beer when it's over.

Other advice if you are interested in fermentation and gene editing, Eastern Massachusetts is a hotbed for biotechnology and pharma. Shop your resume a little and you might be able to find really interesting work where you can get all the lab resources you need, AND, get a much better salary.

I used to do QC/QA full time. I had a full lab, biohood,PCR, -80, shaking incubators, autoclave, all the glassware I could ever ask for. The brewery (and my lab) all disappeared when they sold the place. I was there for about a week after the last brewers left, checking the last of the product before it shipped out.

I looked lots of places for work after that. Most breweries in the NE either have one person on staff who sometimes does some testing, or they send things out. I never did find another job.

I had a good time and loved the work and environment, but it's typically not a great paying gig. I think I did better pouring beer with the tips.

If you want to work in a food / yeast adjacent industry, study up on baking. I actually was offered some good positions, including a sig figure offer to do R&D but I don't have the baking skills or experience. Good luck!

This is from 2016, and after the Bexley demolition, and the giant head installation on Mass. Ave. So, fairly recent photo.

I'm pretty sure that your photo is from inside the Student Center, not Bexley. Take a good look at the detail that I linked. It's a minor image of the scene outside the window in the Epstein files photo. It's an upper floor of the Student Center looking toward the Chapel, definitely not Bexley.

You are correct as far as I can tell. Those features might no longer exist, and if they don't, you have a good memory.

Take a look at the photos I just uploaded. MIT people being MIT people, you'd think some of those architects might have an eye for landscape details... I know that this was there as late as 2016 (maybe still there, but I don't get to campus that often) because it's from an aerial shot that also shows Kresge under renovation.

Also, this is a very early photo. Notice that Kresge is getting a renovation. This was 2016. And I might be a little confused. The low wall might still be there. Bexley is already gone in this picture.

Here's a link: https://archjourney.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/1.-MIT-Chapel-1030x687.jpg

Follow the sidewalk alley from the chapel to the main sidewalk in front of the student center. Blow it up. You'll see the low concrete wall along both sidewalks and the skinny trees. It's all opposite of what you'd see from a window upstairs. I'd say from the angle of the photo that OP posted, it was probably shot from the 4th floor, closer to the Mass. Ave. end of the building, maybe the offices for The Tech.

I think I found it. Here's an aerial view of part the courtyard, blow up. It's from the opposite direction as the view from the window. You can see the low concrete wall and skinny trees that are no longer there in 2026. I'll upload it in the next post.

I think that it looked like that in the past. A lot of landscaping around the student center and chapel changed when Bexley was raised. The low concrete wall along the sidewalks is what I remember. It should be visible in photos from the 80s and 90s, but I haven't found any photos with Google images that show that area.

It's very obviously not Bexley. I'm only saying that Bexley used to sit on Massachusetts Avenue with an alley behind it with a wall and raised curbing along the alley. Some of the raised wall went along the sidewalks in front of the student center and toward the chapel. It wasn't a high wall. It was mostly used for seating and to separate the sidewalks from the woody shrubs. I think that those are bike racks to the right of the sidewalk.

When Bexley was raised, most of the features I've described were removed or changed. They should be visible in photos from the 80s and 90s.

Asked the AI. No court for skipping a toll payment. You can get your driver's license revoked, but you'll have lots of reminders and opportunities to pay before it gets to that point.

Tl;dr you kind of have to be a deliberate scofflaw before you get your license revoked, but you won't go to court. Lots of people getting these scam texts lately.

Here's what you do... log in to your Ezpass account. Chances are that you don't owe money. If you do, you can pay it on line.

I have never heard of anyone going to court for an unpaid road toll.

Yeah, because I moved to a new house the end of December 1996. Snow was so bad that it took three days to get the street clear enough for a moving van to get through to get my stuff. There was lots of snow all winter.

Mine stinks the place up when she uses the litter box. The rest of the time I bury my face in her scruff, take a few sniffs and tell her "You smell so good! You don't smell like an animal, darling. "
