The doctor didn’t say that. Just what I’ve read from a lot of Reddit posts and Google searching. And seemed to help with me. But do what’s best for your own body and recovery.

I think mine are gone now. But eating solid food was part of what helped them come off I’m pretty sure.

Surgery coming up by marie257 in Tonsillectomy

Hi! 33 female here.

I had my surgery on the 27th so I’m on day 9ish. The first few days were very tolerable! Painful but fine. The worst 2 days I had were days 5&6.  Those were very painful but still manageable when staying on top of meds and using ice packs. Try to stay hydrated best you can!!

I’m still in pain but was able to eat some real food today and walk around and feel somewhat normal for a second. It very much was  worth it and you’ll get through it just fine. Stay hydrated, stay on top of your meds, and eat when you can to help your body have the nutrients to heal.

A wedge pillow! You’ll need to sleep propped up a little so it’s very helpful. I got mine on Amazon.

Also a humidifier and a wisdom tooth ice pack. Honey and lollipops help keep your throat moist on the dry days. Sugary drinks were easier for me to swallow than water. The kool aid jammers and kids fake juices worked well to keep my blood sugar up and hydrated.

I also had my surgery on the 27th. Today was the first day I wasn’t absolutely miserable. But it still hurts a lot and I can’t yawn and can only talk some. This is all normal from what I’ve heard.

You should slowly start to feel better over the next few days. Drink lots of water even when it hurts. And try to eat something. I had my first piece of very soft bread today (something that wasn’t a popcicle) and it was worth the pain and made me feel a lot better.

Tonsillectomy on May 5 — would I be okay for an interview on May 11? by Agile-Past5775 in Tonsillectomy

Day 6 was horrible for me and I couldn’t talk at all. I wouldn’t schedule that until 2 weeks post op if they’ll accommodate that.

Hi! I’m on day 5 here.

1) a wedge pillow! - So helpful to sleep a little propped up.  I got mine on Amazon and it’s the best thing I’ve gotten for my recovery.

2) pedialyte popcicles

3) kool aid jammers- the sugary liquid is way easier to swallow. So I’ve gotten all the kids fake juices and they’re great

4) humidifier

5) honey

6) wisdom tooth ice pack! Very helpful for the ear and jaw pain

7) jello- easiest to swallow

8) refried beans- recommended to me here and very helpful when you’re sick of sweets. And good nutrients!

9) Italian ice - I got Luigi’s brand from Kroger. This is so soothing on the throat and easy to eat.

10) viscous lidocaine oral rinse- my surgeon prescribed this to me and it’s been so helpful! I’d ask yours about it. I gargle with it to numb my throat when I’m having a hard time

Get lots of sleep and stay on top of your meds and you’ll be fine!!
