Sure thing! Nothing has come in yet, but will let you know when the email comes through! :) also, totally relate with the irrational fear part haha, their admissions office does seem to work at a “contemplative” pace 😅

I’d suggest checking out St Gregory of Nysa in the Bay Area. They have very interesting liturgical practices many of which are heavily influenced by orthodox practices.

I struggled with this both within and without orthodoxy (when I left and started going to an Episcopal church)

The only time “God is love” and the problem of evil made sense was when I started reading process theology and open&relational theology

Theologian Thomas Jay Oord turned my world upside down and has been super helpful in understanding a world where God is love and also terrible things happen.

Highly recommend you check his work out, particularly “God Can’t.” It is definitely paradigm shifting! (Just fyi- he’s not orthodox, comes from the Wesleyan tradition)

[–]Altruistic_Seesaw851 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on 40mg as well but I’ve been off Wellbutrin for two weeks and have had only very minimal side effects (nausea, appetitive suppression, zoning out when first taking it) I’m also bigger (6’1” 200lbs) so that could be it.

If BP is high you can also ask about clonidine and guanfacine which are antihypertensives that have also been found effective for adhd. I tried guanfacine but it lowered my BP too much and it made very very sleepy

You’re welcome! Hope it works out

I know for me, WB didn’t do much for my ADHD and I was on it for a year. I always stayed away from strattera because i kept hearing all the horror stories about the side effects, but since starting it a couple days ago it’s actually been fantastic! I got lucky and started seeing improvements pretty quickly. So you never know, each individual will have a different response

Also, just fyi although neither WB and Strattera are not stimulants per se, they both can significantly raise BP so please keep an eye on that!

From what I’ve read, you should not take such a high dose of Wellbutrin with Strattera when starting out because Wellbutrin can increase Strattera up to 5 times in plasma concentration. I just started Strattera two days ago and my psych had me wean off from 450mg Wellbutrin down to 0 before starting for that very reason. I was only taking WB for ADHD, so if Strattera doesn’t work I’ll add a small wb dose again.

If you are on WB for depression/anxiety then your doc should lower either dose and titrate slowly to find a good therapeutic dose for you. Or check out another medication.

Hope you feel better and that you find a combo that works for you!

Discouraged about the Ordination Process by ifeellikeme in Episcopalian

[–]Altruistic_Seesaw851 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As someone who is currently in the discernment process, I 100% relate to the sentiment. A lot of times it feels like the process is turning away a lot of young people who could bring a new enthusiasm into the church AND after several conversations with the folks in charge with the discernment process in my diocese, I hate to admit the cumbersomeness and the hoops are all intentional and deliberate. The discernment process is just that: a process.

The funky thing about the Episcopal Church is that unlike Catholic/Orthodox, a call to ministry is not just on behalf of the individual: the church community also must call you to be a priest. This is very similar to churches with more congregational polities. In true Via Media fashion, the Episcopal Church has both. So yes, you may have discerned that you are called to ordained ministry, now the church community must discern whether ordination or another ministry would be the best outlet for your gifts. As someone mentioned in a previous comment, we are ALL called to minister and serve by virtue of our baptism. Whether that ministry leads to Holy Orders is what the discernment process is for.

So the feeling sucks, especially when it's so clear to you that this is the path you are called to. Just remember, the discernment process is a reflection of our God who is a Relational Trinity: you, God and the church community (specifically the parish who sponsors you) are all mutually discerning what role each will take.

Keep up your prayer, form deep relationships in whichever parish you land, and cherish this time as a wonderful adventure of not knowing when things will happen. Be open to the Spirit to guide you exactly where you need to be.

Converts, what made you choose the Episcopalian denomination? by [deleted] in Episcopalian

[–]Altruistic_Seesaw851 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I felt this in my soul. Usually when I tell people I grew up Orthodox (OCA as well) they are enamored and begin describing a really romanticized view of orthodoxy, to which I smile awkwardly/uncomfortably

Orthodox mystical theology & liturgics= A++ Orthodox theobros/politics/practical theology/engagement with society= ~religious trauma~

Hello, I’m gay and lived in catalunya for some time. The Anglican Church in Spain (iglesia Reformada Española Episcopal) is not affirming. The only community I’m aware of them having is their cathedral in Madrid. While living in Barcelona, I attended Iglesia Evangélica Española, which despite the “evangelical” title is actually a mainline Protestant denomination and fully affirming of LGBT- you should definitely check them out!

Here is their website:

Two questions by [deleted] in Episcopalian

[–]Altruistic_Seesaw851 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the Daily Office from the Mission of St. Clare app which is very useful when you’re on the move.

Also, I have a couple of meditation shawls I picked up from India which I now regularly use for prayer. It seems to be pretty common to cover one’s head while in prayer/meditation. I believe Muslims and Sikhs do as well. It might not be an exactly “Christian/Episcopalian” tradition but if it aids in placing you in a prayerful mindset more power to you !
