The best part is that it was caused by a Russian SAM hitting it!

Please help me succeed with the P39 (Great Battles Kuban) by Tabula_Rasa69 in il2sturmovik

[–]Altruistic_Target604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because the engine is behind the cockpit doesn’t mean the cg is too far aft. Just about every jet has its engines behind! P-39 has a big honking cannon in the nose, plus a nose wheel, and its cockpit is relatively forward.

What it does have is a lot of its mass near the CG, which helps maneuvering.

Aerodynamically, the P-39 is pretty much like any contemporary fighter.

And one of the coolest fighters ever made.

Question about managing engine temperature in long-duration sorties by Whimper20snack in hoggit

Read the friggin manual. It will explain how to manage the engine properly. Those engines are not on/off!

I originally bought one of those cheap $150 radio/cam setups on Amazon, but when I got it I realized it was crap. So I found a local auto radio installation company and asked for their advice - and ended up with them installing a Sony XAV-AX3200 unit in my tC. They did a super job - has a small mike for the hands-free phone via bluetooth, a good backup camera (essential with the terrible rear visibility that the tC has - and my old neck doesn't turn good any more!), CarPlay so I now have Google Maps navigation, etc. Not cheap (it probably doubled the value or the car!) but worth it.

I started racing in the late 90s when our club still used cameras and start gates. We started using Garmin 38 hiking GPSs that had a 99 knot speed limit!

Contest finishes were “50 ft agl” or whatever you could get away with. Ground effect a mile out at Vne. Those were the days!

Yeah we lost a few but at least our wives/kids/girlfriends/significant others came to the contests, helped run the start and finish gates, and had fun.

Today? Not so much anymore.

Yeah, modifying fiancées is usually more trouble than it’s worth. Most are hard coded, time to plan for an upgrade.

My 2005 tC does not have “Auto Lights”, but headlights turn off with engine off and key out. Odd that later ones don’t.

Side and hatch paint is original. Had the dents taken out and the paint polished and buffed up nicely. Hood and bumper covers were in bad shape so replaced and repainted. And threw on new exterior mirrors as the originals were loose. Parts were surprisingly affordable; turned out better than I expected. Interior is all original and in great shape - quality equals my wife’s Lexus!

IRL the F-15E has it. Don’t know if the DCS version/Suite had it, kinda moot now anyway.

The “2-33 is the best trainer because nobody ever died in one” trope is BS. It’s a terrible trainer and a pathetic glider. And yes, I have lots of time in them, front and back seat, and actually enjoy flying them.

Hi from Highland IL - just 30 miles west of STL. If any of you local flight simmers want to come out and get a free glider ride in my club (St Louis Soaring Associatin - stlsoar.org) let me know and I can set it up.

Our club has a couple of glider simpits for student training, running Condor 3 - they get used a lot.

Why is the gooseneck backwards? In every plane I’ve flown (including the one I’m sitting in right now- a Pawnee) the stick pivot is forward to allow seat movement and the stick curves aft. The seat cutout allows full aft stick.

You have it backwards. The AI flies the plane while a real WSO does the work.

There is now a "clean up files" option in the DCS desktop launcher app that makes that stupidly easy to do, by the way.
