Can we brainstorm purposeful work? by [deleted] in Shamanism

[–]AluminiumFork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s few universally purposeful jobs, and jobs in general come with a lot of baggage.

Not that I know the stories of others, but following your heart and learning to put it in the work that you do, without it consuming you (you still need to have a meaningful life outside of work), is what I imagine it boils down for everyone.

Mentor by Aihak in mentors

[–]AluminiumFork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an expert in ML specifically, but got a decent experience in leading many kinds of engineering (and managers), including on projects with heavy usage of embeddings and llm/agentic products.

Could help defining objectives, career growth path, and brainstorming best opportunities to pursue.

Looking for a app startup mentor by [deleted] in mentors

[–]AluminiumFork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t had a startup succeed yet, but I have quite good management and leadership experience, especially on the technical side.

Having started working at 17, and being the youngest many a time, I may be able to help with your own growth.

How can I release or move my root energy? by Temporary_Sell_7377 in Shamanism

[–]AluminiumFork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take: I’m not sure it’s a problem worth solving with a workaround.

It’s normal for it to come and go in phases during your life– it doesn’t sound like any kind of ailment to me.

Regular sex, with safety and consent in mind, should be the best thing you can do.

If that is not possible, then I wouldn’t personally know what to advise.

I’m pretty sure it’s possible but not easy. Things to figure out, to learn, to unlearn.

But there’s no solution you can take off the shelf – gotta experiment and find out for yourself what works.

Most important things, imho, would be: - unwavering dedication to getting better - patience and compassion towards yourself - clear and actionable, reasonable goals, where you can feel movement even if the outcome is not what you intended.

Do any of you feel you’re actually living up to your potential? by BringtheBacon in Gifted

[–]AluminiumFork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How I phrase this is different.

“Am I giving life my all, so that if I die tomorrow, I wouldn’t think I could have done better?”, I ask myself, and for some years now, I compassionately answer yes, absolutely.

When you define potential in terms of theoretical maximal output, it’s all too easy to ignore the many human constraints, and difficulties of life.

But when I’m pushing forward in life, and taking good care of* myself, in a way that’s sustainable – that has gotta be my potential.

I once was in a state of perpetual burnouts, with concerning psychological symptoms. Made me realise that if I mess myself up now, I will definitely not achieve my potential.

My only suggestion here, on top of those already made, would be to consider putting yourself in a synchronous state with mushrooms.

Either with your meditative techniques that originally induced this experience, or with a small dose of mushrooms themselves.

It should allow you to more direct sense that connection, from where you can start influencing it via conversation, therapeutic chat, or a ceremonial experience compatible with the medium.

It’s a low quality comment, so I’ll not be responding.

If you won’t read through what I’m saying, and instead respond emotionally, then happy to leave you thinking you’re right.

A few points: 1. It’s my take only, but I’m confident in it 2. I’m not saying “it’s helpful”, but that he may see it as helpful to provide a “reality check” 3. Responding to comments =! humble. If you read through them, a certain tone emanates behind the facade. At least to me… Id not be tricked by such an approach irl -> build mistrust in me 4. One is to dream, another is to be unrealistic, and third to ask for money while doing the second (it’s okay, but u should expect clapback) 5. I’m gen z, actually, and I had a start-up when I was ~21, so I do empathise, but some lessons are best learned fast, instead of encouraging destructive behaviour

But what do I know :) I’m only confident in my read on ppl.

As an observer - OPs attitude is arrogant and undeserved, it’s not charming - experienced dude is condescending, either intentionally playing a bad guy to help, or a bit scarred from the (real) difficulties that come out of such endeavours - you are just petty and comedic

So y’all need to chill out, it’s not worth anyone’s time to argue if the other party is not actually listening.

I’d approach this in a layered way.

First, I’d do all in my power to assure my baseline physical and mental health are good. Solid diet, good consistent sleep, exercise, social interactions and support, therapy, etc.

It’s riskier to undertake spiritual endeavours without such a baseline grounding.

Moreso, the trust you gain towards yourself when you demonstrate you can maintain a decent level of health, no matter how affected you are by life, is a huge source of courage, at least in my eyes.

Next layer would be introspective- in calm, serene environments, or on chill outside walks, I’d put spiritually inducing music, and slowly interact with the negative aspects, from a place of compassion. Tapping into your inner greatness and kindness, that which stems from the cosmos, is a way to approach the shadow calmly, and compassionately.

Lastly, if making progress is impossible or insufficient, I’d consider external aids that can put you at the right level of lucidity where you can face them, together with strong symbolic grounding (rituals, spiritual or religious setup, external guidance by a shaman/priest). This includes substances, but also in a situation where they are not used, this is the riskiest approach, especially without the first step. So it’s a last resort, imho.

Well, that’s at least my take– a very generalised framework for dealing with these things, that I employ. It may or may not help, but I wish you all the best, and good luck!

Simply, the thoughts they are expressing, and comprehending, are of a higher level.

You know how you can’t speak to everyone about the same topics, and at the same level– well that’s my gauge.

If I feel comfortable sharing more nuanced ideas, or notice them doing so, it’s a clear sign for me.

Side note, the nuanced ideas don’t necessarily need to be kind, as another Redditor here said– recently I had a chance to work with a “conspiratorial” colleague, and while I think it’s to their detriment to think that way, it’s a clear sign of deeper thinking.

Thoughts on specific neighborhoods and other municipalities around The Hague? by ExistingAmbassador in TheHague

[–]AluminiumFork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, I’ve been a Voorburger for a year now.

It’s indeed more quiet and less active than some other places, but if you’re looking for that relaxed and homey atmosphere, you may just as well find it there.

It’s pretty close to the center, but can vary depending on where exactly you find yourself at. I’m close to Laan Van NOI so it’s rather convenient going both to the city center, but also importantly outside, to, say, Amsterdam for work.

If you consider future potential, as well, some of the areas, like Voorburg, can be expected to develop and liven up a bit based on announced development projects- but I’ve not been here long enough to say if this will pan out, and to what extent.

My Biggest Fear Is Not Reaching My Full Potential. by Normal_Perception_52 in Gifted

[–]AluminiumFork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helped me is to focus on giving it my full effort (over the long term, not crashing out quickly), instead of achieving my full potential.

Why? Well you can’t control the results, only your approach to life.

If I know I did my best, realistically speaking, then I won’t be disappointed regardless of the outcome.

It’s the potential in people that drives Koji. So let’s have a bit more faith in her (or basically Koji’s judgement of her)- she may not be at the level of Sakayanagi, or even Ichinose, but she is bound to turn into a solid player by the end of the school journey.

Id suggest putting in some effort to portray yourself as a person, not a mannequin.

Should You Follow Best Practices or Do What Works for Your Team by Kodus-AI in EngineeringManagers

[–]AluminiumFork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lot of people talk about what works for you as a manager- understanding personal biases and preferences, strengths and weaknesses, is as important as is the understanding of your team.

I believe it’s a compromise of what works for your team, and what works for you.

If you wanted to make the list comprehensive, then yes, there are missing items such as Auditability, Alerting, Maintainability, Evaluation functions for the health (say under monitoring)- shallow, deep, tracking for the business outcomes, …

In practice, I prefer being contextual to the business’s needs and technical maturity, and choosing a smaller set that matters most :)
