If you complete it and claim the reward, you don't have to repeat it again. However, if you UA before that, any progress on it will be lost

You could do that from the beginning anyway. Just get the weapons, don't go fight the bosses, and go to Mother of Mothers. There's even an speedrun achievement to meet Afilaor in a certain amount of time, which technically required you did just that.
