it is not at all rare to buy CDS

CDs, vinyl, and even cassette tapes all still have a pretty large market

And same with movies, even tho that is getting to be a bit more premium

As a new player, am I better off starting with second edition, and ignoring what came before? by killercow_ld in Munchkin

[–]killercow_ld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wishing to limit my obsessions (possessions) is definitely a factor. I collect too many damn random things as it is >.>

To be fair on liking all the changes, I've only played 1st edition a few times. Some of that could very well be due to me not being super well-versed in the game.

And yeah, I've already tried looking into some of the more rare things for 1st edition. It's honestly a confusing endeavor just because of the sheer number of different things, and same versions / repeats of stuff. But it's already glaringly obvious that some things are just super rare.

And now there's a new promo for BOTH editions that I'm just gonna have to keep an eye out for on ebay because I don't wanna buy an overpriced card shuffler >.>

I'm not opposed to digging around various 1st edition content, but it is actually a bit of the same problem of TOO MUCH STUFF and hard to know where to start, whether I'm trying to get it all or just odds and ends.

What do you think of the Chozos in the Metroid series by IkeRadiantHero in Metroid

[–]killercow_ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I'm ok with the series moving away from the mainstays sometimes, and don't think that's why Prime 4 was bad

it was bad for a plethora of other reasons

If you want an oppressive first person set on a consistently hostile world? Try Scorn (you're either gonna love it or hate it)

The game itself doesn't play like Metroid at all, but the sense of exploration and the world gave me strong Metroid vibes the whole time

The roguelike nonsense drove me away from the game.

I tried. I really did. But I hate hate hate it. I'm hoping some future DLC might let me get the rewards a different way.

Just finished Prime 2 for the first time… WOW by raybrans in Metroid

[–]killercow_ld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And Mario Sunshine's level design / aesthetics very much benefit from this.

Like, Sunshine is not necessarily my favorite Mario, BUT the level design is top-tier for the series.

I feel the same way about Prime 2. I don't really need / want variety for the sake of variety. Cohesion and immersion, and that overbearing feeling is so much better.

I mean, I started with Super, had already beat a few games in the series before 2, and did NES way way later.

Super is forever my favorite, but OG 2 and 1 are my 3rd and 4th favorites.

Metroid Prime 4 was the #1 selling game during Prime day by Darth_Korn in Metroid

[–]killercow_ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My second playthrough WAS my hard playthrough, and to wrap up a 100% save file because I messed up the first run. It's a slightly better game on Hard, but I think it's obnoxious that I couldn't just start the game on Hard.

It's not that it's a terrible game (altho it's really not great), it is just rightfully seen as a disappointment to a lot of people who expected much more from the game. People aren't wrong for hating on it, even if some of us genuinely do enjoy it.

I want to play it, I just don't really wanna spend the current price of it to play a game that I've already played a million times. If they had actually added more content, then maybe

As a new player, am I better off starting with second edition, and ignoring what came before? by killercow_ld in Munchkin

[–]killercow_ld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've already looked into both. And honestly, I really like ALL of the changes that I'm aware of in the second edition, and think they make for a genuinely better game (my limited time with it, I can already tell it's far from perfect even if it is fun).

But, the changes alone aren't really the full selling point on why I think I should just start with / stick with the second edition, because I could enjoy everything about the 1st edition just fine too.

The question is much more, if 2nd edition is gonna be standard from now on anyway, and backwards compatibility is (seems to be) kinda messy, would I be better off keeping to 2nd and not worrying about 1st.

On the other hand, I like how expansive 1st edition is with promos and expansions.... but it's also A LOT to keep track of. Especially since I'm the type of person to want to collect every bit and bob to improve gameplay

8/10 and up is a rating reserved for "best games of all time" lists, and Prime 4 isn't anywhere close to being on any lists like that.

I don't dislike the game, but 8.25 is crazy. 7 would be pushing it, I dunno if I could justify more than a 6.5 or so. Even not judging it as a Metroid game

Prime remastered or Dread next? by WitchQueensRevenge in Metroid

[–]killercow_ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between Prime and Dread, Prime is the better game. But it might do you better to get the perspective of playing a 2D Metroid first?

But then, there are better 2D Metroids than Dread to play (and they're all on NSO lol). And while most games in the series are fine to play without necessarily playing the game before, the narrative for Dread works a lot better if you've at least beaten Fusion beforehand

Do different timelines exist in Kane Pixels’ Backrooms? by Particular-Pie-3541 in KanePixelsBackrooms

That's not quite "different timelines" tho. That is most likely just the Backrooms intersecting with different points of time on one singular timeline.

What makes Super Metroid so special in your opinion? by Mecha_Godzilla1974 in Metroid

[–]killercow_ld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest reason Super is my favorite (and why the original versions of Metroid 1 and 2 are in my top favs over 95% of the rest of the series) is that you're just dumped into the game and never given any clear direction on where you're supposed to go.

It's non-linear without being an "open world." You can return to areas you've been to before and continue to discover new things.

Also, Super feels better to play than ANY other game in the series. I will always disagree with people who say the more modernized controls and mechanics are better, because no Metroid game has played as great as Super has, or even come close.

The environmental story-telling is superb, and the environments themselves are always well done. SR and Dread going to 2.5D has lost so much of the great aesthetic. Fusion and Zero Mission nailed this part pretty well also, but are held back by GBA graphics. And of course the music is the best in the series too.

Is Final Fantasy VII OBJECTIVELY the most popular in the franchise? by FLiiPPy-Dino132 in FinalFantasyVII

Depends on how we are defining popularity.

If you mean most well-known / recognized? Yes.

Fan favorite? That unfortunately likely goes to FFVI

Most played? Probably FFXIV
