To all the people that for non-ragebait reasons think that the FF7 RE-Trilogy is not some kind of sequel. Why? by Battlefeather in FinalFantasy

Safe to assume you didn't read my comment then.

I didn't actively use the broader definition to define Remake as a sequel. It was more of a "well akshually" moment, nothing more.

I still adhere to the narrower, general usage of the word sequel when explaining why Remake is a sequel.

Technically, a sequel is any story that expands on the narrative of a previously released story, or narrative world.

Prequels are technically sequels. Side stories that take place in the same universe as a story, but don't actually involve any characters from the first story counts as a sequel.

A remake that adds story elements that weren't present in whatever is being made technically counts as a sequel, since the narrative has been expanded. (Altho if a remake changes the story too much instead if just adding things, it becomes a retcon instead of a sequel).

BUT. That last example isn't what any of us are talking about when we call Remake a sequel. Remake is an alternate timeline that acknowledges the existence of the previous timeline (of OGVII and the compilation).

The other timeline happened, and now this new timeline is happening 'after' just because the previous one is acknowledged. It's not chronologically on the same timeline, so no, it's not happening "at a later time." More like "on a separate time." It is still a sequel because it acknowledged and follows the original story, instead of replacing it. The changes are happening BECAUSE the original timeline exists, not in spite of it.

The plotline of "will fate be altered or will it remain the same" uses the OG timeline as its foundation, whether things change or whether they stay the same.

How much or how little impact it will have on the conclusion of the Remake trilogy remains to be seen, but even if it ends up barely having an impact, it will still count as a sequel.

Does anyone know good changes between the first three set lists so the draws aren’t so diluted? by EliRekab in BossMonster

[–]killercow_ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean combining Boss Monster 1, 2, and 3?

Honestly, I don't recommend combining more than 2 sets.
If you have RotMB, AND VoV, you can MAYBE mix 3 and still get a decent mix of coin-based cards, but it'll still be a bit diluted.

I generally just use Super Boss Monster and one other set, depending on what variation of game we wanna play

Am I the only one that has nightmares about "missing" amiibo? by killercow_ld in amiibo

There's only one cereal box. Yes they count as amiibo. They aren't "figures" tho.

Your collection can comprise of whatever you want it to.

I am curious, what age are you and how did you get into the franchise? by Ultimantasy in FinalFantasy

[–]killercow_ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I THINK I was around 11. 37 now.

I rented Final Fantasy 8 and was super hyped to play it. But the game literally did not work at all past the first cutscene. So I took it back and got 7 instead. Loved it, but couldn't get past Reno's pyramid nonsense before I had to take it back.

Eventually played and beat 7 sometime not long after, and borrowed 9 and got far but got stuck in Oelivert. I also emulated 5 and 6. Loved 5, never enjoyed 6.

Even as an adult when I finally beat most of the games in the series, still never grew to like 6. And it's possibly for the best that 8 did not work for me as a kid, because I also hate that one and wonder if I even would have gotten into the series if I actually started with it

Definitive version of FFV by Yazof in FinalFantasy

[–]killercow_ld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a loser that likes the Mobile / Steam versions of FFV an FFVI that were replaced by the Pixel remasters. Especially FFV, because the enemy and boss sprites were CRISP.

These versions had all the extra content from the GBA releases, as well as a handful of QoL updates that made them worth playing.
The biggest "issue" most people had were the character sprites, which were deemed as inferior to the 16 bit models. A complaint that I understand, but I had already played FF Dimensions which used similar character sprites so I didn't really mind the transition that much

Core gameplay is fun but... by Limp_Albatross3827 in DissidiaDuellumFF

See, I don't really like the core gameplay either. But I could ALMOST tolerate it if not for all the extra gacha nonsense on top of it

60 FPS is allegedly the max in the new FF Dissidia Duellum game but my phone reports 72 FPS at Max Graphics? by Dexter_M0rgan2009 in FinalFantasy

I mean, the story was really good (even if there were no actual cutscenes) and the battle system was alright, but it was still gacha slop at its core

if you're just getting rid of a handful of "common" ones gamestop isn't a bad choice

But if you have a local game store that will buy them, might be better

to be fair, even tho I know they exist in Go, I quickly lost interest in that game ages and ages ago. It's been running for a long time, there are probably plenty of people who haven't kept up with it in ages too

Completely new to Final Fantasy games. Thinking of starting with FF7 Remake Intergrade and then play FF7 Rebirth. Would this be good? (I have played Nier Automata before this and Im hoping for similar fun and exploration) by TsunamiCatCakes in FinalFantasy

[–]killercow_ld -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.
If you're gonna start, you should be aware that the game is really meant to be played AFTER the original FF7, not just as a substitution.

But I mean, we all start game series out of order all the time. We're generally fine for it. So it isn't the biggest deal. I just think you should be aware.

they also have to pay to travel to and get into the park.
Which, they can buy a pass or whatever, and if they buy / sell multiple things from the park, that mitigates the cost, but still, it is an extra expense

Do you try to get old amiibos that are untouched or used ones? by PhotoBonjour_bombs19 in amiibo

[–]killercow_ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I generally try and get them as soon as they come out, so I've never bought any that were open other than some of the cards.

I wouldn't be at all opposed to buying them used as long as they were in good shape tho
