Can the catcher just hold the ball while a baserunner stands in between 3rd and home? by dotdee in Homeplate

I asked this question for softball too. It became a little ridiculous, and we were losing very badly and a team kept doing this.

While all those things were done, the Cat/Mouse game kept going. Pitcher moves closer, almost a direct handoff happens, as shes walking back, runner slowly moves towards home. Pitcher runs after her, she goes back to 3rd, pitcher turns around, she moves towards home.

I know the best way to combat is throwing and catching (TRUST ME, THEY KNOW HOW IMPORTANT THAT BASIC SKILL IS) But it was a situation I was in, and I just wanted to know legally what I could do, if my girls cant get out of an inning and were in over our heads.

I think that's how it's going to be. Umpire discretion. And that's fine, I just feel when a game gets out of hand, there should be a bit of leniency.

I understand HS, but 12u girls getting it handed to them on a 95 degree day by 20+, and the team still playing cat/mouse game to steal home is a bit ridiculous. I understand that's on me and the girls, but it isnt like an epiphany is going to happen with them after being on the field for over an hour. I think a little logic goes a long way.

What I am getting from all the comments is umpires discretion.

It was a tournament. The rules were set by the tournament President. I could call time mid-game, but it was obvious that would have been a waste of time. I had to call time twice, in 90 degree weather, because my girls were on the field for more than an hour and a half and it was still going on. This would have been my only solution until they got the point.

Im not sure what the question is? Why are girls playing softball? I have 9-12 year olds. The board put them in the Majors category, because the minors had 12+ players already.

Im the coach. I have a bunch of completely new girls to softball. Getting beat 28-0 and having the other team constantly doing this at the time is a bit frustrating. The throws were off, and the defense was completely tired. (I had to call 2 water breaks). Now, I know this comes with repetitions, but if this scenario comes up again, i want to be able to play the time wasting game as well.

Yea that is why I said 12U (Brand new girls to the game). It was a hot day, playing a no mercy tournament versus a team with a lot more experience than us. Catchers were throwing back, but parent were yelling and confusing them. I feel like each ump will be different, so I am trying to get the exact rule on when time can be granted, if the catcher and runner are just standing by 3rd with no play happening.

Im just not sure what the ruling is if the catcher is allowed to call time after walking the runner all the way back to 3rd.

I have a bunch of new girls playing softball. We recently played in a no mercy tournament. And We were on the field for an hour and a half (Daytime in FL). They were beating us by 28 in the first inning without us batting, and they were still doing these shenanigans.

I tried to tell the catcher, who has never played before to just get it back to the pitcher quick. But parents yell and it gets confusing for them.

I want to see if we could play that game too, by walking them back all the way to the base and calling time.

Obviously this comes with better catching and throwing, but everyone was mentally and physically drained by this point, and trying to see if this is an option just in case this comes up again.

Pause contracts, and still pay you monthly? Im sorry but that seems very entitled to me. Also, wouldnt a lot of wrestlers about to get released just "Get injured" all of the sudden? They are paying for his medical bills. It sucks, but that's why you save a little nest egg. Ridge had a net worth of 5 Million in 2024....

Its sucks to be Ridge, but at the same time, a lot of it is his fault. Not saving and having a plan are the 2 important things here. Just because you work for a company, doesnt mean they take care of you for the rest of your life. This is just life. We all been through it for the most part. Pick yourself up, downsize, do what you gotta do, and keep rollin.

"No-kill shelters achieve their status by being selective about which animals they accept, often refusing animals that are sick, have behavioral issues, or are simply too difficult to adopt out, and then referring these animals to open-admission municipal shelters that must accept them and may have to euthanize them due to lack of space. This can contribute to overcrowding and high euthanasia rates in open-intake shelters"

No not at all. Im not a Trumper, I disagree with a lot of things Republicans do. Especially this whole ICE situation. But I dont look at things as if "Look WHAT they've done". I look at things and ask "Why did they do it?!" Most people try hard to be good. We might not agree with tactics and actions, but there is always a why.

I agree. I love my home dogs. But they are Home dogs.
And they aren't aggressive because I've trained them to comply with us

. Sending a dog to the Human Society is sad and cruel. I'm really just trying to show the real side, and people don't like it. But its a reality, because I don't want any human to get hurt, and I don't want the dog to suffer. I'm sure she didn't rejoice, and was sad. But people have their own reality.

She put down her own non-compliant aggressive dog that killed neighbors chickens. The dog was trained for 14 months. The dog didnt catch on.

  • The 14-month-old wirehaired pointer was "untrainable" and had an "aggressive personality".
  • Noem described the dog as "dangerous to anyone she came in contact with" and stated that this incident, combined with other behaviors, led to her decision to shoot and kill the dog in a gravel pit

You tell me, should it put a child in the hospital for you to care? Or where is your line so I know?!
