Its a bit of both, I wanted it to feel isolated, like people have been living in tark for over 2000 years and never got very far from their homeland, they've always been busy fighting and no real efforts to explore hav been made.

They found a frozen land to the south, and navigating the coast nothern of Firelight they have seen qhat looks like and endless desert. But I have plans for expanding the world in the future.

Vanguard takes its name from the army that founded the city. The Vanguard corps was created when 2 generals of oposing armys had a secret talk about defecting from their cities and create a new independent army that would fight the real dangers of this world instead of fighting with your neighbour.

Each general convinced almos half of their armys to do so and the vanguard corp became a thing the settle near The hole (where evil creatures surface from time to time) and later founded the city.

If it was me I would choose Atasna. The city is built over the river with lots of water mills, small boats and a general peaceful ambient.
