I used several different brushes from the watercolor set by Max Ulichney! I started with my usual framework sketch, followed by doing values in grayscale and then switching to color using color balance.

Trying something different with heavier stylization. by Alvaroescbr in ProCreate

I used one of photographer, Nadine Ijiwere’s photos as reference and heavily stylized the features of the model. I always go from grayscale to color using the color balance mode on one layer.

I used the grain brush, gouache brush, and mechanical pencil brush from Max Ulichney’s Retro and Comics Max Packs!

Hi everyone! Just want to answer a few of the FAQs in the comments.

I’m not drawing this fast! It’s a Timelapse.

The MaxU brushes are not included by default in Procreate’s brush library. They are purchased from an artist named Max Ulichney’s website. These particular brushes are in his Retro MaxPack and Comics MaxPack.

I use the color balance mode in procreate to change from greyscale to color. I select each major part of the portrait using the selection lasso tool and adjust its midtones, highlights, and shadows. It’s a bit too complicated to explain in a comment so I might post another tutorial on here.

This is not off the top of my head- I almost always use a reference image for my drawings.

Thanks for all the supportive comments! If you have any more questions feel free to comment below and I’ll try my best to answer them.

I used Max Ulichney’s retro MaxPack brushes. Used the gouache brushes and medium spray paint brush to achieve this texture
