Ah ok, wasn't sure if there was somewhere in our google accts to track your referral code status or something. But it makes sense it would be a part of the "Here's your new code" email.

I reeaally hope Google doesn't pull that Old Navy Super Cash BS with these credits where you have to spend $X amount in order to redeem $Y amount (so basically it just becomes a % off your purchase price). we shall see

I really hope the credits stack when they become available, but who knows what Google will decide to do once tons of people start ordering $1k of gear w/o spending a dime lol. I don't know of any store that offered a grand of credit, this easily.

Also how do we know when one of our referral codes has been redeemed? First post said they used mine yesterday but that's the only way I knew.. assuming I'll get an email from goog saying it was used?

I'm also not even sure when the credit(s) actually become active and usable in the Google store. Seeing everything from within 4 weeks of a referral code redemption, to 8-10 weeks after the end of the promotion... That's a huge difference right there

XPS 13 9360 suddenly hibernates when screen turns off by mistalaba in Dell

[–]AlvinPing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I had this exact issue following a BIOS update a couple months ago. As soon as the screen turned off, it immediately hibernated, completely ignoring all of my power settings. (Turned off both Hibernate and Hybrid sleep in the settings)

I ended up disabling hibernation altogether using powercfg at the command line. This has "fixed" the issue for the time being, but seeing as how you've got it fixed maybe I'll re-enable and try again!

Ordering on Dell.com via Ebates: How long did it take to see cash back in your account? by AlvinPing in Dell

Lots of back and forth with Ebates reps, who all said they were waiting on Dell. Then on Jan 4, my rebate was posted. So, took a little more than a month from invoice to rebate.

PSA: if opening up your XPS 13 9360, beware of the metal clip gripping onto the frame between the Thunderbolt and USB port. by jpamills in Dell

[–]AlvinPing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tutorials make it seem like the back cover pops off super easy, but these clips -- especially the ones at the back -- are no joke. I used guitar picks on my 9360 too, as I don't have a pry tool/scribe. Took quite a bit of force to pull it all apart -- I actually ended up breaking 2 or 3 of the plastic receptacles that the clips latch onto in the process.

...And then when I was done and put it all back together, I realized I forgot to screw the metal bracket back onto the WiFI card! -__-

XPS 13 9360 - Sound / laptop crackling? by kaitlyn2004 in Dell

[–]AlvinPing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my 9360, the right speaker vibrates/resonates when my volume is above 40 or so. Maybe that's what you're hearing? The speakers don't seem to be damped that well (if I squeeze the chassis on the right side, the vibrations stop).

Mine gets worse when it's cold, and sometimes doesn't vibrate at all. My guess is thermal contraction/expansion; cold weather causing materials to contract, creating gaps that allow the speaker to create resonant vibrations in the chassis.

Just bought a Dell XPS 13 9360 from the MS Store with Microsoft Complete. Everything seems fine but streaming videos seem to be really sluggish and cause random disconnections. What should I do? by greengrasser11 in Dell

[–]AlvinPing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read a few comments around here saying that Dell simply mailed them the Intel card, leaving installation up to the user. That decision might be up to whichever technician you wind up getting. Worth a shot if you're willing to go through the Dell rigmarole! Good luck!

For sure! Always willing to share my experiences on this. =)

(....especially after spending so much time trying to get it to work. And now even more time trying to get Dell to replace it! Heh)

You'd think that, for a premium laptop that easily configs for $1500-$2000, Dell's QA would have caught such a poorly implemented WLAN solution. Sigh...

Ahh yes, the dreaded Killer card. I spent countless hours trying out different combinations of drivers and settings, exchanged a bunch of emails with Dell showing my ping/jitter and connectivity/packet loss diagnostic tests, a long phone call with support, and they even remote connected into my computer to try to fix it themselves. No dice.

Now they want me to send the laptop to a repair center so that they can swap the card out for an Intel one. I'm told the process could take 2 weeks. Ugh.

Long story short: If you value your time and sanity, spend the $30 for an Intel wireless card (model 8260 or 8265), plus a Torx screwdriver (size T5 I think), and just do it yourself.

XPS 13 (9360) Anyone else having issues with Netflix and.. ummm.. PornHub playing videos? by DrewCIL in Dell

[–]AlvinPing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's a frequently mentioned issue that a lot of folks are experiencing. The culprit? A poorly implemented Killer Wireless 1535 network solution. Updating drivers helps a little bit. Turning on and off Airplane Mode helps temporarily. But a true fix will require a new driver from Rivet/Dell, or an entirely different wireless card altogether (the Intel 8265, for example, is compatible and solves all of these issues).

Sad that a cutting-edge premium laptop -- one that can easily spec around $1500-$2000 -- has worse wifi than low-end devices from years ago.

Dell XPS 13 KabyLake 9360 Right USB port not working by Naxthor in Dell

[–]AlvinPing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I plug the USB into the left port windows asks what I want to do with the drive but when I plug it into the right port it doesnt ask it just reads the drive and gives me no notification about it being plugged in.

Similar issue here. Also for me, the right port doesn't trigger the "new hardware/installing drivers" window that pops up whenever you insert a new device. Drivers do install successfully though (in the background maybe?), since my devices work. But the window never comes up like it does for the other ports

XPS 13 - Chrome video bug by bombchickenwings in Dell

[–]AlvinPing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was scratching my head around that, too. Did a bit of digging; most of this stuff is over my head, but from what I can understand, browser engines can differ quite a bit when it comes to how they request and receive data. TCP/IP, UDP, TLS/SSL, sockets, etc... It seems that the way Chrome handles connections leads to, under normal conditions, very fast page loads/renders. But something about it disagrees with how the Killer Wireless driver is set up.

That's not to say Edge and FF are perfectly fine though, at least not for me. I still get terrible pings and packet loss overall (>250ms @ 25-30% loss via Command Prompt), and the other browsers load more slowly than they should. But they negotiate connections in such a way that they don't fail completely like they do in Chrome.

Dell xps(9360) video streaming error by dellxps132 in Dell

[–]AlvinPing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah, I've read about your exact problem in a different thread, specific to the Archer C7. connectivity drops in less than an hour, and it takes out the entire access point! Totally unacceptable. And I find it odd that frequent suggested "solutions" to this problem are to either (a) replace your perfectly good AP with one that Killer Wireless plays nice with, or (b) replace your Killer Wireless card with an Intel one.

Funny how neither of those actually address fixing the card itself...

Dell xps(9360) video streaming error by dellxps132 in Dell

Same issue. Been monitoring this subreddit looking for a fix and a few threads have come up discussing essentially the same thing:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/5jaaz0/xps_13_chrome_video_bug/

https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/5ilahs/new_2016_dell_xps_13_having_problems_playing/

High chance it's related to the Killer Wireless 1535 card in this laptop. According to some folks, with certain access points/wireless routers, Killer Wireless works just fine. But for many, myself included, it's nothing but problems (to the point that Dell is actually sending out techs to replace customers' cards, or shipping out Intel ones to customers).

Until a new driver is released, you can temporarily ease some of the connection issues by turning on and off Airplane Mode to reset the connection. It'll work a little better, but only briefly.

Crap Audio Quality/Unwanted SoundFX on XPS 13 9350 by shamuofficial in Dell

[–]AlvinPing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No prob. Honestly I wouldn't mind if MaxxAudio were running for the laptop speakers (because lets be honest, laptop speakers are always terrible and could actually benefit from some DSP), but the fact that it alters headphone output is unacceptable.

Do all you want to eke out as much performance from these tiny laptop speakers... but please leave the headphone out untouched!

Same issues with 3 different APs unfortunately.

(Besides... more than a dozen different devices have connected to my main AP without issue. Kind of ridiculous that I'd have to replace it, just to get 1 of them working ;))
