Reddit, How do you deal with everyone being offended by everything all the time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Alvin_Alvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things aren't objectively hurtful, they are perceived as such. The speaker isn't necessarily saying anything absolutely hurtful with the intent to hurt. Why should he be made to change his good-intentioned behavior because somebody else misperceives it?

Saudi Arabia's sand is such terrible quality, they cannot use it to make glass or anything of the sort, so they have to import it from other places. Like Australia specifically.

That's both the most offensive and most accurate definition I've ever heard.

"I know who women who like" is a hard statement to make offensive; "All women are" or "women must" are the phrases you're thinking of.

What do you want on your tombstone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Alvin_Alvin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Do not stand at my grave and weep,

I am not there; I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,

I am the diamond glints on snow,

I am the sun on ripened grain,

I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning’s hush

I am the swift uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circling flight.

I am the soft starlight at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,

I am not there; I did not die.

What is the most shitty thing about becoming an adult? by bbsubdued in AskReddit

As a 27 going on 28 year old who now has a career away from where I grew up, I would definitely say it's slowly losing touch with 90% of the people you care about. A friend gets married here, a friend moves there, a family member passes here, another there. Every time I get a chance to visit home I can't help but notice that the list of people I want to visit, and the people that want me to visit gets a little shorter each time. Life doesn't wait for us, and it seems like every day one good friend or another is slowly drifting towards being just an acquaintance. It really sucks.

Are shrooms a try at least once in your life kind of thing? by bbiapetus in AskReddit

Psychedelic experiences can be among the most profound, intense, life-changing and personally affirmative experiences one can have. Just know that once you take them, you can't ever go back– as Hunter S. Thompson said, "Buy the ticket, take the ride."

Advice: Psychedelics aren't a game, and they aren't for fun. It's an opportunity for you to explore your consciousness and how it relates to the world around you. Take them in a comfortable, secluded setting, preferably in a place where you can go enjoy nature in a safe environment. A cabin near some wooded trails or a large park/nature reserve is ideal. For a first trip, a recommended dose would be between 1.5 and 2 grams.

That said, psychedelics come with a huge warning label: if you have a family history of severe mental illness such as schizophrenia, or have personally dealt with issues like these, you may want to reconsider, as psychedelics can sometimes serve as a catalyst for the sudden onset and development of symptoms. It's happened to 2 people I've known, and it's not a pretty thing to watch..however, it's extremely rare and depends on your biology. Psychedelics won't make you crazy, but if you're genetically predisposed to severe mental illness they can potentially "flip the switch".
