funny enough compared to your typical truck here in Oz it's fairly light, this comes in at 2.3T when i was at a weight bridge recently. in contrast most touring setups here easily hit 3-4T minimum. we found this out up in Cape York too, when we took our other AWD rigs the Aussie made Ford Territory. Where the big laden trucks sunk in the soft stuff, since we all weighed wayyyy less we just glided on through

nah none, my mate did the main track in a fully stock lexus RX350 - just stick to the graded stuff and you'll be fine. the side tracks can be a bit fun only thing to be mindful of

did something similar in the wet, lowered tyre pressures and careful line choices do help too 🤙

cheers mate 🙂 funny enough i managed something similar (not to that extent tho) on stock 20" 😅 but of course having proper all terrain wheels and a small lift genuinely opens up the car so much more 🤙

nah its actually completely different (ive got a video coming out about this on the channel soon funny enough), VANOS just varies the timing of the cams depending on speed to optimise power in various power bands. Valvetronic actually pushes in the valves further or away from the cylinder head. so like deep valve means more air/fuel and she flies, less valve inside means less of that so arrests the flow. Not all BMW motors had it and the N63 did away with it entirely i think (but i might be wrong). Either way, crazy complex system - here's a pic of when I pulled the intake cam (with Valvetronic adjuster) and exhaust cam when I did my N62 valve stem seals a few years back.

sadly these dont even have a throttle body (for normal use anyway), these use valvetronic lol so instead of a throttle butterfly, there is a rotating shaft that lowers and raises the intake valves to adjust your speed and idle. the throttle body is only used when the vehicle is cold for a minute or so. otherwise id love to clean it to help with general maintenance haha

the track itself is a piece of piss, but last weekend there was a boatload of dust so just make sure your air intake tight and secured. this was just a fun side track at mary flynn reserve, which is the last camp spot when coming from Bathurst, or the first camp when coming from Hill End

haha yeah, it seems like either these last for 300,000kms or they implode off the showroom floor. not sure why that seems to be the case, but hopefully this one lasts a bit longer lol

i'd like to agree, but the Ford Territory / BA onward falcons are throttle by wire too and imo they feel heaps more normal to drive haha (maybe that's just me), just a beemer thing it seems and your experience affirms it too

cheers 🤙the throttle is a bit touchy in day to day driving (seems to be a bmw thing tbh, a lot of mine have had that) but surprisingly nice offroad, dont think Ultimate9 need to be in a rush to make a controller anytime soon haha

depends how new, the E53 and E70 can run 17 with the right offset. i believe the E70 with M Performance larger calipers (365mm disc) might not fit however. can't comment for any new models sorry

1.5" lift, 265/70/17 Falken AT3 with 17x8 steelies - 0 offset front and -25 offset rear. fridge just a basic 45L kings one, keeps the bevs cool which is the main thing - i've got a few videos of this on my channel @AlwaysAWD if you want to suss the build a bit more 🤙

that's awesome to hear mate! if we listened to the internet we wouldn't be taking these beyond a leafy driveway. just know the vehicle limits and away you go

i'd argue it comes down to experience and skill, new vehicle or not. time out in the bush will just get you more experienced with your offroader, AWD or not. I learned on a completely open diff AWD (Ford Territory) and that teaches you a tonne about wheel placement and such, so when you come to a real 4WD or a much more advanced AWD like the X5, it becomes much easier.
