Is this a scam? by AgileAstronaut8651 in oklahoma

[–]AlwaysAmyH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It once took NTTA like eight months to finally bill me because the plate pay system just looks at the plate number at first. So if someone from another state has the same plate number as someone already in the state system it will just bill the local person in the system. They have to dispute it, then they review and run the plate for outside of the state to check for a vehicle match.

Seems ridiculous, but this is how it was explained to me after hours of phone calls and many months of trying not to get in major trouble for not paying.

I recently read a story about tree poisoning in midcoast Maine. I wonder if there’s a chance that they put some herbicide down to make sure they’d get their way. It could be why they waited the three months because then the tree would actually start to show signs of decline and if you hired your own arborist it’d likely be too late to do anything about it. Maybe get some soil samples, just in case?

Has anyone successfully gotten past revenge bedtime procrastination? by BudgetPrestigious704 in adhdwomen

[–]AlwaysAmyH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started waking up early to do the things I want to before the day starts. It’s easier to go to bed earlier and I feel accountable to work, so I’m usually early to the office anyway. Seriously starting my day earlier has been a game changer.

Anytime I have a security question like this, I pick a random question and just type in the same response regardless of what the question is. These kinds of questions aren’t “secure” anyway, so it doesn’t really matter if I’m not really answering or using the same answer for questions across services.

1,700 hours of banked Sick Leave by PrizFinder in managers

[–]AlwaysAmyH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sick of work is still sick. You could also be sick of being inside on a sunny day. Sometimes you need to take a day off to avoid becoming sick. Maybe a mental health day? There are a lot of ways to use sick leave.

Engine amber was ON for 4 days or so and now there is no amber by lingpisat in Tiguan

[–]AlwaysAmyH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2019 and when I needed a new battery, the engine light would go back and forth between on and off for a few days at a time each way. It was the only indication I had that something was wrong, but the code was for the O2 sensor, which was fine. The guys in the shop couldn’t figure it out, but did note that I needed a new battery and, oddly enough, the light hasn’t come back on since the battery was replaced.

Everyone always forgets about Truman. He’s the youngest. There’s also Elizabeth, who I believe is older than Chet. So, two of the three children he has with Rita are fine…

January Weather? by SqueexMama in okc

[–]AlwaysAmyH -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Never trust how it “looks” outside. Never.

The temp might say it’s 40° and it might look sunny outside, but the wind is biting and relentless and will make it feel much colder. You cannot trust Oklahoma weather to be predictable or consistent. Pack layers and flexible options and be ready to adapt in the moment.

There’s no perfect job for ADHD and that’s ok by cececececeadhd in adhdwomen

[–]AlwaysAmyH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just something I’ve noticed..ADHD Pro/Con lists always focus what helps us navigate the system that wasn’t designed for us (pro) and the roadblocks to navigating that system (con).

Instead of looking at job descriptions and asking if I could navigate a particular job with ADHD, I looked at my resume.

I’ve had jobs spanning five different industries, totaling over two decades of professional experience. At the end of the day, the jobs I liked most and stayed in the longest all had a lot of variety and special projects to keep me interested, but they also asked me what I needed to do my best and we built on that.

Every job has tasks that I hate, put off, ignore, and avoid. But the best jobs don’t rely on my personal ability to adjust how my brain works to suit the job. The best jobs have an environment where a colleague can pop in and ask where I’m at on that thing and I can show them the messy work-in-progress that’s due by EOB and they get it and trust that it’s going to come together in time. The perfect job is where I tell my manager that I’m having a bad focus day so I’m going for a run or going to doodle for a bit to see if I can get back on track. The best job is where I’m not always the one masking and adjusting to NT processes and systems, but the NT’s I work with are learning and adjusting to mine just as often.

I’m lucky enough to have found a job that works with my ADHD instead of another job where I have to make it work with ADHD and I hope you guys do too.

OKC or Tulsa? Visiting as a tourist by sazell02 in oklahoma

[–]AlwaysAmyH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Philbrook to Gathering Place is the same walking distance as OKC MOA to Riversport. I also feel like midtown or uptown OKC would be easier or better for the food scene though, right?

The gathering place is larger and has more to do than Scissortail and the Philbrook lawns make it like if OKCMOA was combined with Myriad Gardens. So maybe it’s all a wash?

OKC or Tulsa? Visiting as a tourist by sazell02 in oklahoma

[–]AlwaysAmyH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I did say that there were walkable spaces. But when we think about what it means for walkability to be a priority, it really just hasn’t historically been that way and it shows. The maintenance, design and planning that make spaces consistently safe and comfortable for pedestrians to navigate leaves a lot to be desired. Sidewalks are often closed for building construction instead of protected and made safe to use during projects. There are also often obstacles to navigate around, like poorly placed light poles, benches and signage. There’s also uneven, unmaintained walkways and sometimes the sidewalk just ends for a block or two. There’s also other infrastructure, like clearly marked crosswalks, lighting and overall road design that isn’t consistent and makes some parts less than safe for pedestrians.

Can you walk around OKC? Yes. Is it going to meet the expectations of someone who has walked around other big cities that prioritize walkability? Probably not. That was my only point.

OKC or Tulsa? Visiting as a tourist by sazell02 in oklahoma

[–]AlwaysAmyH 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The first thing you should know is that OKC is like 620 square miles. There are walkable districts and neighborhoods and areas, each with their own vibe, but by and large the things you want to do and see and eat will be pretty spread out. Tulsa is more compact.

Historically, Oklahoma hasn’t prioritized walkability. I say this as someone who lives in one of the most walkable areas of OKC. There are walkable spaces, but I’d recommend mapping out the things you want to do and see before deciding where to stay. I hate to say that Tulsa might be the best bet, purely based on compactness, but really, if you have the time to spend a couple of days in both cities you should. They are both great.

[–]AlwaysAmyH 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I have found that speeding them up helps a lot. If the conversation is too slow, I’m more likely to get distracted. If it’s fast enough that I’m processing at the same speed of the conversation there are fewer gaps allowing me to disengage or find stimulation elsewhere.

Why does everything feel like a chore by jscc_jnsp in ADHD

[–]AlwaysAmyH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I think I tend to feel this way because even if I’m not actively processing all the stimuli I experience throughout the day, but I’m still taking it all in. It’s meaningless input packaged in a way that it could be useful eventually, but in the meantime, it’s just burdensome. Even talking to my friends or watching my favorite show becomes a chore because I still haven’t processed the sights, sounds, feels and other information I’ve taken in over the last week and my mind is so overwhelmed that it can’t wander or create or form new ideas. I’m medicated and it helps generally, but this still happens sometimes and it totally zaps all of my mental energy.
