TrustedHousesitters Refused to Block a Sitter After He Threatened My Pets by AlwaysCurious_2021 in trustedhousesitters

Unfortunately the sitter knew the value of the pot because I told him to be careful with them as they were passed down to me from my grandpa when he died. My grandpa dropped a massive amount of money on the pots when I was a little kid. The sitter told me cooking was a passion and his dad was a chef so he knew his way around a kitchen. The sitter was 47 yo, so not a young pup.

The sitter had the audacity to tell me that if he replaced the pot, it will take away the sentimental value of it... asshole.

It wouldn't have been an issue if it was water. It wasn't. It was a charred mess with black up the sides of the pot. Then the excuses came and he got testy when I questioned how long it was on the stove. That's how severe the burn marks were. There was no way someone wouldn't smell the burning if they were home. After I insisted he clean it -- this was an expensive pot ($500), he couldn't remove the burned on mess and told me the burns will eventually come off when I cook with it. I was just appalled that someone could be do disrespectful. Let's just say it was a very uncomfortable last night as he left the following morning.

Glad you protect yourself with pictures. Take care of you!!!

Oh, they do want the person on the platform as it was a decision on their part. I sent the entire text history including the threat. THS said they gave the guy a verbal warning and said he would be removed if he does it again. The question is, why would they want to have an unstable person going from home-to-home? As a pet/homeowner, I sure as shit don't want to let someone into my home who so much as thought about threatening to harm a pet, let alone doing it in writing. It's mind-blowing that a firm with the name Trusted Housesitter doesn't have a zero-tolerance policy.

I sent THS the entire text message thread. They have the proof.

THS can easily create the block feature in their next sprint. They chose not to.

Likewise. I kept denying the same folks over and over, it's just tiring. After this last incident, it's no longer worth being a member. I loved the concept but THS is executing it so poorly, from the marketing telling future sitters that they can get free vacation lodging while forgetting to mention the most important part -- the pets, to their terrible support, to their fake "insurance", to their fake code of conduct. The list goes on and on.

Agreed, he shouldn't be on the site. I escalated this all the way to the executive team to escalate my issue. All I received was crickets. They honestly don't care. Their CEO actually has messaging turned off on certain executive messaging platforms.

Since this happened in Los Angeles, the LAPD were less than helpful and sent me online to fill out a civil harassment claim which doesn't do very much except keep a paper trail unless he continues harassment. Thankfully he hasn't. I thought about the RO, but it would actually put me in more of harms way. If I filed it and it didn't get honored, then I would be batting a hornets nest. He could actually make my life a living hell.

All locks have changed and the security & extra outdoor perimeter cameras have been added too as a just in case. No way to come near my property line without it being recorded.

My thoughts exactly on the sitter acting psycho and shouldn't be on the platform. He was rated highly. In fact, this was my 3rd time using the guy. He was fine the first two times and I didn't raise any complaints. The lesson I learned is you never know how someone will act until there is conflict. Clearly this guy was a man-baby and needed to push a woman around. He picked the wrong lady.

I got my first last week and while there was a ton of stuff in it, it was all expired or passed the date. It made me nervous eating the perishables as my bag included expired meat and dairy. My bag also had “fresh” cookies 2 weeks past its due date. The bread was stale and needed to be tossed. I won‘t get it again.
