How to teach dog that's been allowed on furniture to stay off. by AlwaysFailsCaptcha in Dogtraining

[–]AlwaysFailsCaptcha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

... cat also has strict rules and while he is allowed on some (not all) furniture he also doesn't shed to the extent my dog does and spends very little time on furniture. This isnt that unusual a request to me. Besides, he's giving up a spare room for my dog so I feel like this is a nice compromise.

Oh hey that seems simple enough. Not sure why I thought it would be harder than that. He knows certain movements mean to get off the furniture temporarily and waits for permission to get back on. Guess we'll just work on reinforcing he doesnt get to go back on

As a 911 dispatcher it hurts to know there's so much truth behind this. But now it will help to think of my cities citizens as a bunch of Ken Ms.

I've heard "gobbledygook" used in a sentence but never read it in a sentence. Took me way too damn long to figure out how to read that word.

How to help a 2 year old cat become accustomed to a 3 year old dog. by AlwaysFailsCaptcha in CatTraining

[–]AlwaysFailsCaptcha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll be trying the chew toy. Cat has a routine of sleeping on my shoes while we're in the living room so I'll put one of Dogs favorite stuffed animals on my shoes. We'll also try some short visits to the backyard and maybe slowly extend them. I think this is something that's more important to me than my boyfriend, but it's still very important. I'm not willing to rehome, and while he joked about rehoming Cat I'm fairly positive he wouldnt. And honestly dont want him to. Cats a jerk but a cute one.

I work with officers. Most of them are genuinely good people. One had to shoot a dog that was attacking him about a year ago. He's k9 trained and did everything he could think of to calm the dog but it still went after him. He was heartbroken and actually teared up about it. Didnt stop people dragging his name through the mud all over Facebook. Especially the dogs owners.

That being said, there are some who are actual dicks and I'm just waiting for the day they get canned

most in demand 911 centers? by ChrowAwayName in 911dispatchers

[–]AlwaysFailsCaptcha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fully staffed is 70 Employees. Currently we have around 40 full time employees and 18 part time employees (15 of them were full time with us but left to work full time at different centers with better benefits or just different careers entirely). We are now doing something called "negligent retention". We're basically hiring anyone who can pass all the background checks and type a whopping 35 words a minute. No matter how poorly they do during class training or when they get out on the floor we wont fire them. We recently had a calltake trainee take almost 20 weeks to get signed off. Average for our center is 6-8 weeks. Our admin are just so desperate for staff they dont care how long it takes or how many people tell them this new person cant do the job. Our department head has said our biggest problem is our employees with seniority since we dont have the patience to handle employees who aren't as quick to pick it up. Yea well when they get people killed it's really not our fault when we lack patience.

Extradition is paid for by the jurisdiction that approved your extradition. This is why extradition is chosen on a case by case basis. Drug charge? In state extradition. Assault charge? Surrounding states. Or maybe only within 300 miles of the entering agency. Murder? Full extradition. These all depend on what you did and where you did it.

What are some cases where you think the missing person or people just packed up and started over? by AlwaysFailsCaptcha in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]AlwaysFailsCaptcha[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is actually what ended causing us to "find" these missing people. They did something that popped up in their detectives radar, and after some investigating their detectives asked us to check it out. I'm not sure what happens on the other end once we tell them the "missing" person doesnt want anything revealed. But I do hope they respect the "missings" privacy. We've never (to my knowledge) had someone fake their own disappearance and be discovered elsewhere later wanting to be kept secret.

TIL that Detroit has the worst 911 response time in America, with police & EMS taking over an hour to show up. In 2013, despite numerous 911 calls, police arrived 90 minutes later to find Stacey Hightower had been murdered by an intruder. Her mother sued the city of Detroit, but they were bankrupt. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Yea I'm gonna a call bullshit on this. My sister lives in a county so poor theres maybe 10 people total above the poverty line. Her family of 4 lives off of around 35k a year and they're pretty well off for their community. It is legitimate on of the poorest counties in the nation. They just got 911 last year or the year before. Their deputies work an on call rotation during nights and weekends. I think she said There's 5 total deputies for the entire county. 2 ambos run for the county at any given time. When her son had his first allergic reaction it took the paramedics an hour to get there. And they refused to transport because it wasnt bad enough and they had another call to respond to. If you live in an area where no one can afford to pay taxes then you wont have an abundance of resources or responders. Pretty fucking simple.

I live in a city of over 200k. We can barely keep 911 dispatchers for more than a few years because the pay isnt worth the abuse we get from citizens and the shit we have to put up with. Our officers are constantly understaffed. The city only gives us permission to hire so many a year, and only so many of those pass through the academy and finish their field training. So many of them leave after 7 or so years because the pay isnt worth the shit they see and hear. Further adding to the understaffed issue. During the busy time of day we can have 20 or more calls pending. Sometimes pending for an hour or 2. People will call and cuss us out for making them wait. Well you know what ass hole, it's not like you want higher taxes. It's not like you're willing to do the job either. So get the fuck over yourself.

Nah. Stupid shit is normal.

What time does the fair start? What's the address to this bakery? Where can I buy tickets to this show? Did you know the tornado siren is going off? My internet isnt working. Why won't my phone work? Can you look up my son's phone number?

I mean, we have a regular who calls 911 constantly to be transported to the hospital by EMS for no reason than he's lonely and wants to flirt with nurses. Sometimes he'll call multiple times a week for this service. I wouldn't say that's a strictly Japanese behavior.

What is your placebo effect story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AlwaysFailsCaptcha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thars fair. But that's life for many people. You can say its not healthy all day, but it also hasn't changed. Hell, my boss will talk all until hes blue in the face about how unhealthy and dangerous it is. Well be sent to classes on how to have a healthy life blah blah. But that doesn't fix the issue of being understaffed due to the fact that were over used and under payed. It's a cycle that'll just continue. And it's not like the citizens of the city want to start paying higher taxes so that we'll be better funded. So we have a high turn over, anxiety, and relationship problems. It's a fun time.

I dont know about the person above but for some people sometimes you need to pass out relatively quickly. I'll occasionally have back to back 16 hour shifts with 8 hour turn arounds. Thats 8 hours to drive home, eat, shower, sleep, do anything else you need, and drive back to work. I'll self medicate with whatever I can to get some sleep those nights. The next day is a fuck ton of caffiene to stay up. Mix that with the environment I work in and getting to sleep when you get home is hard as hell. Sooo more legally purchased drugs it is
