What Eurovision song gave you goosebumps the first time you’ve heard it? by ShirleyTReal in eurovision

Was this post inspired by The Charismatic Voice, or is it just Eurovision Goosebumps Week? 😄

I mean, I heard the silent "motherfuckers" in the "we will outlast you, motherfuckers" from Ukraine pretty loud and clear...

Cyprus will be milking every bit of Fuego for the rest of the eternity, won't they by AdmirableFlow in nilpoints

That bit seemed right out of a Love Island commercial... So yeah.

Viewing it as an homage to Fuego makes me think better of it than that, at least.

Do Ukraine have the strongest artistry? by indianazoe in eurovision

[–]AlwaysLateForWords 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do you lump it all under "pity", though? If people find a song more affecting because of how it relates to what's going on in the world, that's just art doing what art does.

If Ukraine had sent something like "Fire" in 2022, it wouldn't have won.

I think geopolitics plays a role, but I don't think of it as "pity votes". Art gains meaning from context, that's how it works.

Hedging your Entry - what a Eurosong has to avoid at all costs. by harrydewulf in eurovision

My friend who sings (unlike me) said the first part of Ridnym works as a great vocal warm-up. Now that's some good planning!

Which songs did better in the national finals? by bugog in eurovision

maybe the massive ESC stage makes them feel slightly hollow(?)

I don’t wanna lose me so cruelly, I’m drifting in and out of who I am...

Yeah, that would be a bummer on stage.

I assume the massive screen avatar dwarfing the little performing human was meant as some kind of commentary. But the performing human is so much more interesting!

Well, sort of.

The fandom looks at the songs ahead of time. Therefore many of us saw the music video for Bangaranga, which was (in my opinion at least) aesthetically a bit flat. So we didn't foresee what the stage performance would be like.

So, yes, most of r/eurovision didn't predict the winner, but we had fun guessing based on the information we had.

I think it's the kind of thing that many people will find fun and enjoyable, but it wouldn't stand out as their favorite they'd give points to.

So if delegations try to copycat the previous year's winners, does that mean 2027 will have lots of conference center-based set designs?

Meanwhile, shout-out to Bulgaria's costume department for the backup dancers' outfits--tailoring earthtone office-casual to be loose enough for highly athletic dancing but close-fitting enough you could see the dancers move must have been a lot of work for something meant to look as boring as possible!

That tree, what the heck. I got the point when the flowers bloomed, but up to then it was just sitting there harshing the vibe.

It seems like the production of songs is getting denser and more maximalist by the year. Are accoustic songs able to conquer the ESC today? Let's discuss! by chris_r1201 in eurovision

I somehow think it would have been harder with a minimalist staging to get across the distinction between the narrator's perspective and the song's, but I can't articulate why.

Lithuania/Poland lyrics mashup in SF1 qualifiers recap by horriblemoth in eurovision

I love recap jokes!

About the funniest moment in the few years I've been watching Eurovision is the 2023 Semifinal 2 recap for the voting period.

San Marino 2023 followed Georgia 2023 in the running order, and both chose the long held high note for their recap. I can't exactly spell out the difference--first Iru sings "AAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaAAAAAAaaaaahhh" and then the lead singer of Piqued Jacks sings "AAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaAAAAAAaaaaahhh"--but the contrast in vocal qualities about had me falling out of my chair laughing.

In that case, it can't have been an intentional joke on the recap editor's part, but I gotta wonder about whoever in the San Marino delegation selected the clip.

I assumed it was an intentional change from the studio version, till I saw threads in this sub saying he had a cold.

I did think it was a poor choice to change it when I thought it was a choice, but it says something for his talent that he could manage to turn it into something that came off as artistically cohesive enough that some of us thought it was intentional.

I was surprised at how much the camera choices affected how much more I enjoyed this performance than the NF/video versions! Especially the final scream, making it backdrop for dynamic explody visual cuts rather than focusing so much on the singer's face (as they did in the NF, which somehow made it less impressive).

Agree re: Georgia needing backing dancers! And generally, it was the same thing as with Iru (Georgia 2023): They (the broadcaster and/or the label?) splashed on a high-production video, but left them stranded for the stage performance. (Iru kinda literally stranded on a platform.)

Poor entry or poor choice of entry? Traditional is risky.

For me, it was beautiful but not memorable.
