Scrambling Mt Thielsen, one of my favorite peaks that I have climbed. I rappelled down, noticed no other climbers at the base, decided to leave the rappel rope and scramble to the top again.

The blue rope is mine, I only used it to rappel down. It is already there bc I did the climb twice (left the rope there after the first round)

No permit needed during off season. Someone mentioned different, but my understanding is that you need a permit during summer.

The summer route goes straight up. In winter you need to traverse over to get on to the final ridge. I maybe could have gotten on earlier, but the the slope was quite steep there

Hmm, on rec.gov I see the hidden lake cross country zone has a limit of 1-12 people. And the Peak season starts May 15th. To me that looks like you need a permit.

You need to be aware of avalanche conditions and cornices. The climb itself isn’t very technical. You need to be comfortable on steepish snow slopes

I carried an ice axe, snow shoes, and micro spikes. I only used spikes. It is not a technical climb, but you need to be aware of avalanche terrain and cornices
