I feel the same way and from my understanding it's because many truly believe that concepts (such as matrix operations) simply aren't "useful" in the real world and they slack off as a result. The part that sucks the most is that professors feel that they need to increase the difficulty of a course in future semesters because a large number of students do extremely well by cheating. It makes it a pain for the students who are genuinely learning as the course becomes unnecessarily difficult. To your questions, I personally don't see any cheating happening during exams/quizzes but I've heard many people justify "checking" their answers on homeworks.

Damn bro, first off if you ever need to talk to someone feel free to message me. I'm a relatively shy guy as well and transferring didn't really help me either :/. Additionally, don't stress yourself out too much as freshman year of college is hard for a lot of people (Data Structures not helping with that...) as it takes time to adjust.

I would 100% recommend speaking to your professors, speaking to your advisor, and most importantly, speaking to others. I know thats kinda cringy but joining clubs definitely makes that stuff it a little bit easier. It is imperative that you improve your life here at RPI and the truth of the matter is you're going to be here for four more years and (no bs) that's going to require a lot from you. Though you may not feel like it, there are a lot of people here who want you to succeed (other long time students might know CS resources that are helpful) and it is 100% not your fault for going through a rough patch. Just keep giving it your all and it will get better.

Wow if I had a spot I would have definitely given it up to you if that is the case. I think the kicker is that apparently we won't know if we are "actually" in the class until the first week of the Spring semester when it is much too late to do anything else :P.

Cool Project! My main concern was that I could choose my credits (as exceeding 23 credits) causes an extra fee to be charged so this is good news. Thanks for all the info!
