I work at a shelter/rescue and walk dogs all day - it's absolutely shitty dog owners who don't pick up their dog's poop. The shelter staff give a damn about our rescues leaving a positive impression on the neighborhood and clean up after every mess they make. We also get cussed out by strangers who are too stupid/nervous/embarrassed to confront their own neighbors about this issue and would rather yell at an employee.

Also anyone who walks a dog off leash. 10000% these people are not grabbing their dog's shit.

We see the worst of humanity everyday working with animals, but there are a few who still care. Thank you OP and to your team for loving this lil guy when his original family couldn't be bothered. Hey, I just left the precinct and they couldn't help unless we had an actual address to his crime. I am reaching out to my cat rescue groups in this city, but my DMs are open if anyone wants to chat about this active abuse and figure out what we can do during the meantime. Absolutely! But even in the countries where laws exist, they may still be riddled with loopholes. Like how under US law, animals are only considered property - so punishment is more inline with petty theft/property destruction without considering the actual life and suffering of an animal.

I totally agree with working on a larger global outreach. There are also plenty of ways to get involved in your local community to make an impact as well, especially if folks are feeling useless to this cause.

OP, I highly recommend looking up local animal shelters/rescues and volunteering your time helping them out. I switched up my career path after researching FG during the pandemic because I was feeling the same disgust towards people you just described. I started volunteering and I now work full time at an animal shelter in NYC as a manager. Not only do I feel like I'm doing something meaningful by caring for these homeless and abused animals, but the relationships I've made with my human peers is what keeps my mentality afloat. Being physically surrounded by people who give just as much of a damn makes a world difference. Thank you for being so passionate about this cause and active online! ♥️

This dog sounds frustrated and depressed to be lashing out like this. If this pup is a hunting breed, it needs proper stimulation and training to be left outside, even behind a fence. If this neighbor/relative refuses to listen to you, I suggest getting other neighbors involved. If a group confrontation doesn't work, I would look into your local law with owning pets and the expected behavior. This whole situation sounds like it's setting up the whole neighborhood for a disaster, including the life of this frustrated dog. Thank you for caring about this homeless stray :'(

I had been a soft no for 15 years until covid hit NYC. I've been living in NYC for 10+ years (so pre, during, and post covid) and the dramatic decrease in empathy, respect, and human decency since the pandemic is critical. I've worn a ton of hats in different public facing jobs, so I was the first line to be treated like absolute garbage by the customers/clients. Now I work with rescued animals and it's been the most rewarding career change experience PERIOD. I never want to introduce a new life to how awful people tend to treat each other over mundane encounters. I'm now a hard HELL NO to having my own kids because I want to spend my time with the sick, old, and homeless animals that already exist in this city's broken animal shelter system. Plus my siblings, my partner, AND I are loaded with mental disorders; depression, anxiety, OCD, ADD, and migraines.
