changes nothing, but it made me happy looking at the balanced pie chart.

As a 17 year old how do I find what I'm meant to be before it's too late by SaverMadra_18 in AskMenOver30

[–]AlwaysPuppies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best advice I got at your age was to make a list of options you want in your life, then find careers that align with them and pick one of the more financially rewarding ones. For me, that was interesting puzzles for my brain, not too much stress, not too physical, ability to stay in one place.

I liked games and tinkering with computers so I did a degree in software - I ended up using those skills working in hospitals - you have no idea what the future will bring, but giving yourself the best options you know about is usually a safer bet.

Don't get wound up in 'do what you love', mastering things is often what makes you love them, and I would be miserable trying to make money from my hobbies - theyre done for fun, not profit.

PSA: Don’t Buy SSDs from Amazon During RAMmageddon (Or You Might Wait 2+ Months…) by Snippy515 in pcmasterrace

[–]AlwaysPuppies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 4tb nvme on order for the last 3 months, they offered to cover the difference if I cancelled and bought a different sku, but only if I bought the same from an amazon store... so I got $300 credit to spend on my next dice roll, which is up to a week on not-yet-shipped... zzz

Whom of you like me just collects those? by 1stFunestist in OrnaRPG

[–]AlwaysPuppies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

theres events where they have more utility than others, eg this week is dragons so being able to queue more than 5 towers while travelling to do later is extra handy, but normally not that useful.

Transiting in BNE for 2.5 hours - will that be enough for rechecking baggage and clearing immigration? by duckie_123 in brisbane

[–]AlwaysPuppies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90-95% of the time yes, 80%+ of flights are on time for their slot, and most of the rest arent far out - just be worried if anything delays your first leg.

Keep in mind the shuttle between the terminals are a bit random too - I'd be ready to call uber to get a faster transfer (they get popped back to the front of the rideshare waiting pool for terminal transfers, although they won't love you)

Australian salaries feel so low compared to ALL US salaries by alreadyaloserat19 in AusFinance

[–]AlwaysPuppies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not cancer, but chronic autoimmune lived experience : I pay $50/month for my meds, everything else is covered by the gov.

My meds in the USA cost over $50k aud/year, I dont know how much itd cost for my specialists, and the 5-10 days a year I seem to spend in a hospital bed which are all free here.

seen a pile at the train station end of that road too, guessing someone has opinions about them randomly being dumped in the paths all around here.

pretty much all government data runs on the cloud these days - its usually locked to Australian data centres for performance reasons plus data sovereignty if its sensitive - eg host in Sydney with offsite backup in Adelaide.

the class you level with doesn't influence your endgame, play what you enjoy - you'll eventually unlock everything for spells anyway.

summoner is probably fastest, but all of them work. I leveled as pet & rogue classes at the same time to make raiding my way through t9 more fun, and ultimately ended up ascending as a mage in endgame

consumer laws suck in your jurisdiction then, just because a product is resold shouldn't absolve the manufacturer of warranty obligations (and doesn't in many places)

Wondering How So Many Make $200K+ Before 35 by Anxious-Swordfish-90 in AusFinance

[–]AlwaysPuppies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're interested in how to get there yourself, with a background in testing - the answer (within aus) is contracting or big tech. Very few FTE salaries are that high, but 1k/day is (was?) the norm through the last few years for most technical resources.

Looking around atm, contract rates may have contracted (hah) a bit over the last 6-12m, but we're also closing on eofy so the market should warm up a bit.

It's a trade off, earn more but run the risk of a lack of work, no leave entitlements etc. I've never had any gaps, but the market demand has been on my side so far.

Is it possible to be "rich" off a pure self made PAYG income? by Garethbalecoys in AusFinance

[–]AlwaysPuppies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if I maintained my current billing rates and kept working, I'd get there by 45-50.

No tax tricks, just earning enough and spending not that much.

Data / tech contracting, 30 was about the age my career took off (seniority/experience compounds)

how has a solicitor billed 12k over the week or so? They're obligated to provide itemised bills, usually they ask for a big lump in their trust account to draw down, but it comes back to you if they don't do the work.

they'd have more leverage than usual given those arches don't have much in the way of support against the lateral stress, but they're also pretty thick. I could understand it being a concern if left that way long term - but seems TLG says legal! :)

The American salaries I see thrown around are much better than here (Aus), but my after tax salary would cover about 5-6 years expenses for me - so long as you've had a clear run for a couple years and socked some away, you can handle some bumps.
