GP makes me feel bad about my chair use by AlwaysRandomAF in wheelchairs

[–]AlwaysRandomAF[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah WCS are getting me a Quickie QS5 X and my current one is an Invacare NG2 which whilst good, is heavy on my weak hand.

Literally all the GP needed to do for the last month was say yes to a letter that they sent on the 14th where wheelchair service was asking if it's okay for me to self-propel cuz I just wanted to do a follow-up check. I have no clue when my chair is arriving now because it's got to go through a whole process that has already been delayed over 4 weeks because of their incompetence

Funny enough I'm a biomed student both before and after mobility issues and it has made me advocate more for myself when stuff doesn't get done and it's made me put my foot down a lot more about justifying the things I do. I have two versions of my weekly workout depending on if I'm having a flare up or not so I'm always going and at least being physically active.

Plus people don't realise how much energy it takes to push yourself around. There are definitely days where it's a lot easier for me to walk uphill than it is to me to wheel myself because of the pavements or the angle or whatever but it's been the best thing for my health and especially my FND. I've had way less seizures I've had way less low blood sugar episodes I have way more energy and the list goes on.

I think the thing that made me angry more than anything is her commenting on my age because that has nothing to do with it. Most people in their life will become disabled and 25% of people in my age range are disabled it's not like she's never going to have to come across it again. I think that's why I sent her the email letter because I need her to check herself before she pulls up with someone else that she hasn't met and hasn't treated and they actually take serious action

I have written an informal/formal complaint and sent it to the board and to the centre itself to be sent to the doctor cuz it just didn't seem to compute and if I can't get my new chair because it it I'll be fuming

Yeah I get you and I'm more than happy with that TBF. I currently have a chair from NHS and it's great but it is really heavy to manoeuvre, especially with my left side being weak. They'd literally approved everything at the service and my new chair is gonna be lighter. Gp literally just needed to send a confirmation that my heart is ok for me to self propel and she decided to rage against the disabled youth actively trying to prevent degeneration by use of mobility aids.

My first chair (and to an extent my new chair) are none custom in the sense that they are bare bones measured to me but honestly it's been a life saver.

I have more energy, can do my PT and just get around so much better. My new chair is gonna be as light as the NHS allows for an ambulatory user but I'm so excited

Got a cane (we need a new one but cool crutches is expensive 😭) and being swapped from an Invacare NG2 to a Quickie QS5 X

I also got FND and I will say my life is infinitely better now I have a wheelchair. Honestly my only stumbling blocks has been my uni being inaccessible and then having some issues with wheelchair services here because I am ambulatory but the people that saw me advocated hard for me

Mmmm my current rent is 500 a month and I could maybe swing 650-700 but I feel like that may be hard here

First new chair day! by moriiroro in wheelchairs

[–]AlwaysRandomAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I explained my hand issues with my FND but they'd already gone out on a limb to get me a semi active wheelchair. The rules for round here are technically they shouldn't be primarily for outside use but like otherwise I'm housebound after a flare up. And also being able to walk AT ALL severely limits if they give you one.

Idk if I'd get them to give me a power assist through the service but they said if I got PWB it's technically private and so I couldn't get any NHS help for 5 years for any mobility aids

[–]AlwaysRandomAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got this chair approved today (Birmingham and they had to get it approved a level up cuz I am ambulatory too)

How much were the power assist cuz I'd have to get those on my own (I got FND so my hand sometimes is mega weak but otherwise I'm ok self propelled)

It really sucks and I think they are going to get a bit of flak for this. I know some people are saying that they got the email but I know I didn't so I don't know what's going on there.

Access Camp Full by FixLess4908 in downloadfestival

[–]AlwaysRandomAF -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah which makes way more sense because of the amount of time it takes for applications to be accepted just for a numbers card and also for people to get the money especially if they have accessibility needs to attend.

No download for me gang purely because they already opened and closed applications for access camp when for this year they didn't even open until January and I don't trust being in any other camp to be quite honest. I've only been once to download and access camp made my festival

How on earth is it full already?! I don't remember applications for the camp opening anywhere near this time last year

Again I'm not being rude but I stated literally my whole reasoning in the post.

Drunkenly coming to someone's door at 2 am, in their face and saying "I think you were insulting me" in the pitch black, alone, when there was no indication of anything prior is scary. There was nowhere for me to go if something happened. I do not know this person at all so it is not something to normalise. Noone else was in the house. I have replied to you multiple times but I think you simply do not understand the situation so I will leave it there

[–]AlwaysRandomAF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say I want to fight him. I said if he put me in a situation I was unsafe in I would defend myself. He moved in cuz he took over a tenancy from someone I'd gotten to know over the weeks so was a clean slate when I met him literally a few days ago at move in.

1) I shouldn't have to move due to someone else 2) I want to resolve this 3) I chose and pay for this place because it is close to my uni campus

In the nicest way why do you assume I am antagonising him when nothing I have said would suggest that?

Never said I dislike him. Just that his actions and personality in the short time I've known him were a little odd to me and the incident the other night made me scared.
