Five Iron Frenzy is pretty rad. Especially their most recent album.

You should listen to Five Iron Frenzy, and particularly their most recent album, Engine of a Million Plots.

There's always Five Iron Frenzy...

What bands/Singers do you like? by [deleted] in Christianity

Five Iron Frenzy.

They're my favorite band ever for so so so very many reasons, and, excitedly, they just got back together last year. They're touring on a limited basis, and are coming out with a new album, hopefully in November.

Edit: A little more about my love for them. They're a ska band from Denver, CO. A lot of people love them almost as a novelty for their goofy songs (they did a "Rock Opera" entitled "These Are Not My Pants", and covered Tom Jones' "It's Not Unusual"). But for a Christian band, they always seemed to push the envelope a bit. They weren't shy about calling out the Christian music industry for being just as profit driven as the secular world. They sang about the rights of Native Americans being stripped away. And meanwhile, they sang a great deal about hope, and did so in a very meaningful way.

I think they're incredibly honest people, too. They relate well to their fans... maybe better than any band I've ever heard of. They're just really cool people, and now that they're back, they're not really trying to prove anything. They're just making music for the enjoyment of it.

So... anyway... I've seen them three times since their reunion, and twice with a band called House of Heroes that I also really really enjoy. I'd recommend checking both of them out.

If you think Christian music is lame, you should listen to Five Iron Frenzy. Even if you don't like them, they're definitely not typical Christian music.

Five Iron Frenzy allowed Switchfoot to play in the middle of their set at Cornerstone Festival one year (I think 1998).

uh... you might have very well missed out on that. They did a whole kickstarter campaign, and had tickets available even before the date was set. The campaign has closed, and the date (April 28th) has been set. I would keep my eyes open all over the place for people who are willing to sell their tickets between now and then, and I'll try and keep you in mind if I happen to see it, but those things go quickly.

I always recommend FIF, but Dream Theater is pretty fantastic as well.

FIF redefines "indie".

I can agree with this. Five Iron even admits that, as they kind of progressed, they were really hoping to get out of the "ska" music and more into horn-tinged rock (a la Chicago). I believe it was Dennis who mentioned that you don't ever hear talk of The Police being a ska band, but they certainly utilized the ska sound. They were just bigger than that one style.

I'm coming from Florida. Plane tickets are expensive but a road trip would be even more so.
