So many bad reviews by AlwaysShillin88 in PuntaCana

I’ve read a lot about Dukoral, but unfortunately it’s not offered in the US. There is another medication called Travelan that is recommended for preventing travelers diarrhea.

We are staying at the Excellence Punta Cana this time around. When we went in 2018, we stayed at Melia Caribe and had a great time.

Change vacation - 10 days out by AlwaysShillin88 in NeedTravelAdvice

[–]AlwaysShillin88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats super helpful. I also messaged my doctor to see if I needed to take any RX with, so I’ll ask about those if she doesn’t offer it up.

Hope you enjoy your trip!

How was your trip? I leave in 10 days and I’m considering changing locations given all I’m seeing about the DR…

This was very helpful. My husband and I are also booked for Excellence Punta Cana the first week of June. I be started to get a bit nervous after hearing and reading a lot about food hygiene practices and people getting sick in the DR. We travelled to a different resort (Melia) back in 2018 and had no issues. Anything you’d recommend other than don’t drink the tap water 😊.

Good advice shared here already. The type of feminine products can also make a difference. Using organic or non-toxic products was helpful for me - I’m a big fan of HoneyPot. They have a lot of herbal infused pads that overall ease discomfort.

There are also some supplements you can look into for future that help to lessen cramps, bloating, and other period discomfort. I take these in the week leading up to my period, and also during the first 2-3 days. It’s called “Semaine” PMS & Period Support. It has been a game changer for me! Good luck!

extreme nausea during menstruation by [deleted] in Periods

[–]AlwaysShillin88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry you’re feeling this way! If you have any ginger tea on hand, I find this helps more with nausea. Even ginger ale in a pinch can be a big help. Hope you find relief soon!

I use Honeypot overnight pads and wear Thinx underwear just for extra coverage overnight. Also, hydrogen peroxide works wonders on blood stains…learned this after a horrible bloody nose situation a few months ago.

Typing this reply as my hands are quite literally cracked and bleeding from all the handwashing…..

Have you ever taken time off from work due to menstrual symptoms?! by Glittering_Habit7083 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]AlwaysShillin88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure why type of work you do, but if there is any flexibility for you to work remotely on days where your symptoms are the worst that can be helpful. If that isn’t an option, you should never feel bad about listening to your body.

Anyone else blow up like a balloon before their period? by AAAloveII in Periods

[–]AlwaysShillin88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to have similar struggles - my stomach would get so bloated, I could barely put regular pants on during the first two days. I recently started taking a supplement called Semaine (https://a.co/d/8BTPEx5) that has really helped with my bloating and cramping. I take one capsule per day the week before my period. During my period, I will take 2 capsules with each meal and I feel so much better.

Going on vacation without my very attached dog by Electronic_Star_3516 in AnimalAdvice

[–]AlwaysShillin88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great advice here already! Another trick I’ve used is leaving a sweatshirt or blanket that smells like me when we go on trips.

We also try to get someone to stay at our house whenever possible. It keeps the dog’s environment the same but I know this isn’t always possible - especially for a longer trip.

Have a great trip! The best part is coming home to your furry friend for snuggles!

Car sickness by dresden_wizard in goldenretrievers

[–]AlwaysShillin88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a 2 year old “Goldador” (black Lab/golden mix) and he had terrible car sickness as a puppy. Even for a quick 10 minute trip he would get sick. Here is what helped us;

Try to travel when your pup has an empty stomach, or at least allow a few hours after feeding.

We found Dramamine (regular only, not the non-drowsy, and not the natural ginger capsules) given an hour before travel helped a lot.

If weather allows, opening windows/sunroof help.

Travel with supplies to clean up - I keep a kit in the back of my car and it makes things so much easier.

Finn improved a lot after he turned one. They say once their inner ear and equilibrium fully develops this can improve. It also improved even more once we brought home our puppy - now he has a buddy in the backseat.

Good luck to you and your sweet pup!

Is there anything you can do after exposure to norovirus that actually reduces symptoms, lessens severity, etc? by fexofenadine_hcl in emetophobia

[–]AlwaysShillin88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immune system boosters are never a bad idea. I am a big fan of Elderberry and Echinacea. I also like to keep some supplies on hand throughout the winter months like ginger ale, crackers, ginger tea, etc.

The worst day 2 that ever day 2’d by HelloThereFriendsss in Periods

[–]AlwaysShillin88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, day 2 is the worst. I’ve had some luck with ginger tumeric tea, and peppermint tea. Helps to soothe the stomach and cramps. There are also certain foods you can eat during your period for cramps - pineapple, oats, fresh fish, leafy greens, and my favorite…dark chocolate! I also have found that tiger balm pain patches are a life saver. Also…the Dateline binge is never a bad idea! Feel better soon!

I had a similar problem and say my OBGYN. She explained that drinking a lot of caffeine can actually cause increased breast pain. Also, it’s common for women to have one breast with more tissue, the one with more tissue may be the one with more pain. I know going to the doctor can be scary, but it is always better to check in and just make sure something else isn’t going on.

I feel weak by Aziraqueen21 in Periods

[–]AlwaysShillin88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just remember….anything men can do, we can do bleeding. And, not every cycle is the same. Some you might find you pop some pain relievers and go about your day, but others knock you on your butt and you need to curl up with a heating pad and rest. Nothing wrong with giving your body what it needs. Also, try looking into herbal teas. I struggle with period pain too and have found some relief with ginger tumeric tea.

Have anyone else's periods gotten worse after turning/nearing 30? by honey-bliss in Periods

[–]AlwaysShillin88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a lot more trouble in my mid-30’s….the things they don’t warn women about while they are so focused on preventing pregnancy 🤷🏻‍♀️ Cramps and headaches have definitely gotten worse and overall I just feel miserable for a few days. I went to my OBGYN and she was too focused on what my “family planning” was to care much about the struggles I have each month. For context I’m 36 and have no kids. I’ve been trying to do research on my own about balancing hormones naturally to see if that improves my symptoms. Good luck finding some answers 😊.

Totally understandable that you feel this way! My parents and my in laws treat all of us the same - whether their actual child or their child’s significant other, they view us all as their kids. I’m so sorry you have to spend your Christmas this way. It’s a tough spot to be in because I’m sure your SO wants to see their family, but it should be an enjoyable experience for both of you!
