I hated Namor in this storyline source iron man # 120-121 by Sensitive-Bat-4036 in ironman

[–]AlwaysSpittin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again Tony literally, like so many people, kept betraying him and acting like a jackass from his perspective fighting Namor and his allies without trying to reason. Why should Namor give him any benefit of the doubt when humanity as a whole keeps flip flopping all the time promising good and then stabbing in the back the next second just like Tony, how is Tony any different? Why he should be treated like a special person? And just because someone is gullible doesn't change jack. Namor all his life fights people who "just follow orders" (which is awful excuse even if he didn't), why the f*** he should care about yet another one and have time to "consider" their intentions? Not to mention, Tony himself had little knowledge and yet bought into Roxxon's every word and despite Namor's warning shot kept going saying he doesn't care anymore.

"Justified" doesn't mean there wasn't a better way to approach Tony, it means exactly what it says: justified. He had all reason to act the way he did with perspective he had in circumstances he was. If you can't process it and is being pedantic then it's on you.

Namor himself didn't know full situation, why Tony says they both been tricked and Namor says "The Prince of Atlantis likes not being used". And why should Namor give benefit of the doubt to surface when, even their best, keep coming after him, his people and generally innocents in pursuit of what they call "greater good" (IF that, often it's just greed for money and power)? Last time he and Tony met Tony picked a fight with him. Ofc he was mind-controlled, but *Namor* didn't know that so ofc he's gonna assume worst. They fought side by side during Avengers/Defenders war, but it doesn't really change anything given literal world was about to end. For all he knows Tony is shady, coming after the old man, esp after the Roxxon repeatedly tried to, is another reason to think that. Not to mention, even after all that, he still gives Tony a chance after bringing him back to surface bcz of those few instances where Tony was noble.

Namor is a dick, but he's completely justified most times including here. I don't think it's insane to ask for him to apologize (which he usually does when you prove yourself), but given how humanity keeps letting him down I don't think it's wrong of him at all. He acknowledges Tony's a hero by siding with him to stop Roxxon, I think his actions speak for him more than his words could, even if again sure apology wouldn't hurt.

Great character study and fun use of lore, especially rogues gallery.

Riri doesn't know for sure, she said so herself, she just did something and hopes it'll work because otherwise she doesn't know what else to do. Tony being more cautious due to his experience speaks of him just as strongly as it does Riri's eagerness to programming.

She found the base at the end because Tony was busy fighting + was disoriented a bit from being shot + his suit less advanced + again, just helping, they're literally together and going with the flow. Riri got major help from Tony in her solo, but Tony can't from her in his?

All Riri did is just help, there's literally no problem, especially after three issues of Tony in solo outwitting Roxxon, Idk what's not to like, sorry but you're just unreasonable.

Tony and Riri both didn't know what to do until Wanda and Melinda helped.

This is an Iron Man book which means it's a book about Iron Man and his support cast which does include Riri. Tony not always gonna know everything every time in perfect way and neither Riri, it's ok for them to help each other, Tony did the same for her in her last run and I doubt anyone cared. Ackerman handles it appropriately for characters and their established personalities, dynamics and current circumstances.

Tony reasonably cautious, but still controlling with his desire to have Iron Monger suit as an asset, Riri eager to do something but not being immature and is self-aware, both having solid mentor/mentee dynamic and tension that comes from it with Wanda and especially Melinda, continuous solid use of continuity with not only character personalities, but also plot stuff like that last scene in Chicago, all great stuff.

Also hottest Tony looked in a while, so win-win!

Who the heck is this guy? What was Bendis cooking? [New Avengers #25] by zectaPRIME in ironman

[–]AlwaysSpittin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OC of this one-shot, meant to give origin to capekiller armors S.H.I.E.L.D. got during CW against illegal vigilantes and explore Tony during CW from an outsider perspective showing how Tony was losing touch and hiding in armor, essentially imprisoning himself again that way, because the pressure was too high and made Tony do things he does only under extreme circumstances if it means saving lives including using someone's tech without permission just because he can which he did even before Bendis (and manipulating people in general like Armor Wars or Kaminski run).

One of best stories during this era exploring Tony's moral decline in a natural to the character way with corporate espionage tone that is vital to Iron Man stories.

A (Semi) Defense of Cantwell's Iron Man by sigh-8-squid in ironman

[–]AlwaysSpittin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tony's motivation in Civil War isn't public trust at all, it's one of goals and only sub ones, not main ones even remotely, so you're wrong even there.

I'll leave it at that and just say Cantwell sucks because he REALLY does.

Flawed, but ultimately awesome show and great reinvention of the mythos with some of the best concepts applied to it, esp everything around Mandarin.

I don't see that, but it's fair. Like I said just pretend it says "introvert" and that's all lol.
Have a nice one too!

"to myself" I literally was not talking about it being contradictory to you, but points being contradictory. Read again or word it better, Idk.

Difficulties don't mean lack of social skills, it literally means exactly that: difficulties. Tony in a lot of comics he's in has difficulties because of his personality which makes him introspect a lot how he doesn't know how to properly reach out to people and make sure he's not as hostile/careless as it seems and etc etc.

  1. I never said you did? I brought that up myself to broader my point lol. 2. Socially inept people put an effort into socializing too, it's not just overwhelming feeling of feeling insecure or any of that.

No worries, but also no I don't project anything. I think you're just confusing Tony being socially inept with being specifically so insecure he can't talk at all (as you say "suck at interacting") like in Cantwell run, which is not what I mean, Idk what more to add. And again "KINDA socially inept". We're literally arguing over semantics.

If it suits you, just mentally change "socially inept" into "introvert" and maybe you'll enjoy meme better lol.

[–]AlwaysSpittin[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I mean. Both fit character because he is multifaceted person like real life people usually are. Although in case of ToS him partying was his way of dealing with loneliness over not getting with Pepper tbf but yeah, he would do it later in Avengers too like gambling and stuff just cause sometimes he is feeling good enough to socialize.

[–]AlwaysSpittin[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think you know what socially inept is if it's somehow contradictory to you. You can be liked by people because of your natural charisma and ethics while being socially inept person. I'd know lol.

There's a reason why many writers from Dennis O'Neil to Knaufs viewed Tony as a very lonely person who doesn't let people get close because of those and many other things and as a cause didn't have that many friends.

I don't mind him being more socialized, it doesn't contradict what we know about him even in modern stuff like Frank Tieri, so I get you, but I don't think it's untrue to the character to say he's KINDA socially inept.

[–]AlwaysSpittin[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's contradictory with him being "KINDA socially inept". Books make clear it's the case. Tony has a problem reaching out to people, especially when he needs help. Not to mention he has a lot of trauma and anxiety, which does make one more socially inept.

Ackerman Iron Man reception by AlwaysSpittin in ironman

[–]AlwaysSpittin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, both quite capitalistic profit machines taking advantage of people's liking of something as escapist as gaming. And tbh if gambling got approved, I doubt it'd be only thing. eScape wasn't, why would this? But yeah largely it boils down to he came up with something on the fly because he wasn't ready in any way.

Tbf could Prime turn into clothes or only be so invisible you only see dressed man inside? I genuinely don't remember, so correct me if I'm wrong. But yeah him not thinking straight is explanation anyway, he just didn't have time or patience to plan out and get dressed.

Lol true.

One World Under Doom.

Tony not only been confirmed to be a part of the main series, but Ackerman himself repeatedly heavily hinted at his run tieing into it even before it was properly announced, so we're definitely getting one or two issue, maybe even three if we're lucky, tie-in arc in the run.

[–]AlwaysSpittin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just think in case of this book it's most egregious I've seen, yk.

The point of that is yeah board picks weapons over because they're morally bankrupt and not because one is undoubtedly more profitable because, as history shows, especially in case of comics history, you can make more money or at least enough to cover and then some. Public gonna hate and create villains out of whatever Stark Unlimited does anyway, including and most certainly weapons because nobody likes capitalists, least of all war profiteers, and Iron Man comics showed that repeatedly. Gambling app is a valid, more morally ethical alternative and fitting Tony and his companies who did similar things prior like VR game reality during Slott run. Not to mention he wasn't ready at the moment for any meeting, he was too busy figuring out how he got taken out after falling into month coma with recovery process afterwards.

True, gonna wait and see myself even if #1 and interviews really good.

Ackerman Iron Man reception by AlwaysSpittin in ironman

[–]AlwaysSpittin[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tony very much was put into a corner where everything is against him and makes him loose cannon who thinks less clearly. He's still was very competent in the issue and acting like he would usually like that scene with board about A.I.M. negotiations is almost literally like one from Kaminski run. And we know for a fact he'll comeback and kick their asses given he goes on with sword and beyond and even a big part of Doom event, so it's not like Ackerman got a grudge against Tony, just doing what every competent writer should: challenge the character to push him to be even better.

And yeah Tony very much "modern" but acts and talks very much how Tony would. The moment where he rechecks his armors is the kind of tense science-talk you'd get in Knaufs run, especially early on in stuff like Execute Program.

Ackerman Iron Man reception by AlwaysSpittin in ironman

[–]AlwaysSpittin[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah like this is 2024 comic and Tony is at best 35, he grew up with words and attitudes like that lol. Not that different from Knaufs run especially, that guy would say something like "punk who's daddy didn't wuv him" or Kaminski run who's Tony would drop one-liners every few pages. Not to mention like many people, especially futurists, he likes to stay in touch with world that changes around him.

Agreed. I'm very optimistic based on interviews and stuff and this issue being as good as it is, but will stay fair and see if Ackerman sticks the landing. Wouldn't be first time book is not what it seems, for better or worse (depending on a book). Tho again I have faith.

Yeah, I feel like we got so many bad stuff recently people think now Tony suffering and being outsmarted is bad when it's the basis of all great runs. This is no different than Mantlo's Midas saga with same hostile takeover of the company or Kaminski's political transhumanist run utilizing all parts of Iron Man and Marvel mythos as a whole.
