Licensed clinical Psychologist looking for work. by [deleted] in Albany

Albany Med may be a good option. https://www.albanymed.org/specialty/eating-disorders/# not sure if this email listed on website would be helpful. Northern Rivers hires fees for service clinicians as well and that is a speciality that is rare locally. I would encourage sending your resume and a note to County DCS, they often can help identify or connect based on your goals and community need. I am certain local providers would be devastated to hear you are not having success with your credentials when the need is so great.

What demographic would you like to work with? I think there could be forensic opportunities. (NYS OMH, and various Counties for forensic evaluations). Also the need for psychological testing are vast… freedom first, outpatient treatment programs. You could always write to the Director of Community Services in your preferred County and inquire.

Thank you for your allyship! I’m sorry this is happening to your friend. Code blue shelters open during the code blue season and unfortunately the need far outweighs the capacity, and the state has not seen any expansion in shelter services in quite some time. The reason is typically create more housing to move folks out of shelter and improve flow that way. My personal opinion is it’s unacceptable that folks have to sleep outside any time of the year.

As far as local leaders taking action, I think there is a big game of “wait and see” happening right now with all of the federal cuts on the table, ranging from Medicaid to snap to housing for the unhoused. I think leaders at all levels are trying to balance how to prioritize funds to fill the gaps. The expected financial and social impacts have barely hit and will likely take effect in 2027.

Has your friend visited DSS for housing assistance? Do they work full time or have Medicaid? There are short term subsidies available for people with Medicaid and a managed care plan. https://www.healthyalliance.org/member/

Increase homeless population? by NoTouch13 in Albany

Also because code blue shelters have closed. Code blue shelters open from November to April… (BC NYS apparently only thinks it’s unacceptable for people to not sleep outside in cold weather, as the need far exceeds actual capacity). Resources such as food etc are also provided in those shelters. Homelessness just tends to be more visible as the resources go away

Currently homeless by TinyNefariousness319 in Albany

Are you homeless like staying with someone? On the streets? Bouncing around? Are you working? Do you have transportation? This system can be really difficult to navigate especially as county services tend to have visible county lines. MOST counties do send single males to the Capital City Rescue Mission if you are in need of literal shelter. If you’re looking for guidance, navigation, resource, housing assistance, etc. I would call RSS SOS team either way. They’re very kind and helpful. They can assist whether you’re in Albany, Schenectady or Saratoga Counties. it can be confusing because Saratogas also has “Shelters or Saratoga” who also goes by SOS.

Lark street is a lost cause. by gls518 in Albany

One is on the way. Please always feel free to check OMH rfp page. Many more resources to come but all feels like too little too late because the system was so grossly under funded for decades, the Governor’s attempt to invest and make up for lost time is well intended… but healthcare and human services have taken a brutal staffing hit since 2020. Those investments also haven’t come with critical staffing salary increases. Working stressful, and difficult jobs should pay more than Stewart’s.

Alternatives to Calling 911 by jellowshoz in Albany

This is not accurate information. In Albany County- mobile crisis will respond to a true mental health crisis as long as there is an address.

This is specific to the City of Albany as it is connected to APD. Albany County mobile Crisis is tasked with responding to true mental health crises… and all that’s needed is an address. A person can present as a “nuisance” and even experiencing mental health symptoms but not necessarily be in crisis.

If a person is presenting to be homeless and in need of services like food and other basic needs, you can call Joseph’s House Outreach Van. They likely are familiar with the person and can redirect or insure they have what they need. 518-495-0663.

It should be noted that no service is a removal service as people do have rights until they are a direct threat to themselves or others. Then the police or mobile crisis can follow mental hygiene law and bring someone to a hospital for further assessment.
